Watch us pick, clean, and start curing our hard shell gourds. We'll leave them on the porch for a few more nights, but will move them indoors before the hard frost sets in. In 8 or 10 months, these heirloom Martin gourds will be ready to turn into banjos, birdhouses, bowls, bottles, and anything else we can think of.

I've never played a gourd banjo(especially one made by Mr Clifton hicks. Ha! Maybe one day lol). My grandaddy used to grow gourds but only ever made Birdhouses out of them. I remember him drilling the holes for them and hollowing them, then my momma(being very artistic) painting "folk art" flower and leaf designs on them.

These used to be more common, were used for all kinds of goods, not just the noble banjo. Nice video!

Wow, I have never seen one of these!! They are huge!! And you can actually make a banjo out of one??! Show and tell us more, please!! And I am glad that the man didn't kill the Cougar, but only scared it off!! The Eastern Cougar was declared extinct in 2018, so it warms my heart to know that there are a few left!! ♡♡♡

Hello Clifton. I took the liberty of using some of your music and voice to experiment with. I would like to send you the results so far. I have a soundcloud account so I could upload with private settings then post you a link?
Your playing is a real pleasure to me.
    Yours

I think Clifton lives in Appalachia (Smoky Mtns?🤔) so there's multiple animals to be wary of...poisonous snakes, which come out more during dry fall weather when days are warm & nights are cool. Also Black Bears roam & forage!!!

Seems an odd question. Why not? it's every mans right to have one, and a good idea for prtection from man and beast alike. The USA is still largely wild/.
