Watch us pick, clean, and start curing our hard shell gourds. We'll leave them on the porch for a few more nights, but will move them indoors before the hard frost sets in. In 8 or 10 months, these heirloom Martin gourds will be ready to turn into banjos, birdhouses, bowls, bottles, and anything else we can think of.

This brings new meaning to "picking the banjo"
I've never played a gourd banjo(especially one made by Mr Clifton hicks. Ha! Maybe one day lol). My grandaddy used to grow gourds but only ever made Birdhouses out of them. I remember him drilling the holes for them and hollowing them, then my momma(being very artistic) painting "folk art" flower and leaf designs on them.
These used to be more common, were used for all kinds of goods, not just the noble banjo. Nice video!
Between the two videos, I think I’ve seen what I need to see to do this myself
Wow, I have never seen one of these!! They are huge!! And you can actually make a banjo out of one??! Show and tell us more, please!! And I am glad that the man didn't kill the Cougar, but only scared it off!! The Eastern Cougar was declared extinct in 2018, so it warms my heart to know that there are a few left!! ♡♡♡
I've made a few videos explaining how they are built. Here's one: ruclips.net/video/XEf5tyGii10/видео.html
Love thoose Gourds 👀
I think the only thing better than hearing that rich-toned playing is watching you two high stepping through that patch!
brings back memories of growing up on my Aunt Dot's farm :)
Fascinating, never seen one of those bad boys before, never mind a barrow full 👍🏻
This is excellent.
"Cackling Hen"!
I love your gourd banjo version of this.
Loved that. Wish I could grow those gourds in the UK, but we need about one more month of sunshine😕🪕🏴
You can grow them there. Start them inside early.
That sounds so good.
I concur.
I made a banjo from an acorn squash. It sounded a bit flat
Love that crooked smile on your dog
Wish I could grow these in England. Can you eat them ??
Only the seeds are edible, as far as I know. Surely they could be grown in the south of England, no?
@@CliftonHicksbanjo Maybe down in Cornwall they may grow. Love your channel Clifton. Cheers.
Hey Clif. How you doing? Jerry Gouge here.
JERRY GOUGE. I hope you and yours are doing well. I still have the same email: clifhicks@gmail.com
Seen you pop up on Brandon Herrera channel with Kyle Rittenhouse yesterday. Been an sub on your channel for a while...
Hello Clifton. I took the liberty of using some of your music and voice to experiment with. I would like to send you the results so far. I have a soundcloud account so I could upload with private settings then post you a link?
Your playing is a real pleasure to me.
Yours
Atticus.
I find it funny that we use the same hose head. Where did you get yours?
Nice gourds! What is the name of the first tune?
You gonna be selling seeds? You can put me down for 25 or 30 if you do!
I think he mentioned where he got the seeds last video.
When you buy gourds they come with free seeds inside!
Nice 😊👍👍👍👍
When are you going to do a cover of Banjo Gourd Jeans, Boots With the Fur?
Content warning! This video contains erotic gourd lathering
You ever play classical music on your Banjos?
Hang them up to dry so the mice can’t to them. Don’t ask how I know this.
I'm watching this in rainy England 🙂 Wondering why you have a pistol?
Theres a recent video from over here where a man is attacked by a cougar. He almost used his handgun's entire magazine before it backed off.
I think Clifton lives in Appalachia (Smoky Mtns?🤔) so there's multiple animals to be wary of...poisonous snakes, which come out more during dry fall weather when days are warm & nights are cool. Also Black Bears roam & forage!!!
@@jwalk1014 WoW! What a *COINCIDENCE!!!* 🙄 ...what about invasions that happen in the outhouse???🤔
All kinds of critters in Appalachia....
Seems an odd question. Why not? it's every mans right to have one, and a good idea for prtection from man and beast alike. The USA is still largely wild/.
