  • China’s Pan Zhanle accused Australia's Kyle Chalmers of snubbing him on the opening night of competition and American swimmer Jack Alexy of allegedly acting disrespectfully towards Chinese coaches during a training session.

Zhanle made his comments in an interview with a Chinese broadcaster after the men’s 100m freestyle final in which he broke the world record. Chalmers labelled the allegation towards him 'a bit weird' and added: 'We had a laugh together at warm-down last night - but no issues from my end.'

From a native speaker in both languages - Pan’s original comment included “youdian” which means “a tad” or “I felt a bit.. that they looked down on us”(Pan even paused before saying the rest). And as a teenager he also had the self awareness of not wanting to come across as whiney.
The fact that this video did not include the nuanced translation and used this comment as opening is a clear attention grab and meant to instigate controversy.

    1. Those who have been genuinely following swimming will know that Pan's performance has improved step by step, and he is the only person in the world who has swum under 47 seconds multiple times.
    2022 Budapest: 47.65
    2023 Fukuoka World Championships: 47.43
    Asian Games: 46.97
2024 Doha World Championships: 46.80 WR
    2024 Paris: 46.92 OR, 47.21, 46.40 New WR & OR
    2. Some swimming enthusiasts on RUclips have conducted detailed analyses of Pan's swimming techniques through videos. His technique is almost perfect. These are the people who approach the sport from its essence and truly love it, no matter where they come from.
    3. Pan Zhanle was not on the list of 23 Swimmers before 2021, as he was less than 17 years old at the time. Meanwhile, the Chinese team is the most tested at this Olympic Games.
    4. For those who might only watch the Olympics once every four years, finding such a performance surprising and unacceptable, why? Because when an American or Australian breaks a world record, it's taken for granted. But if a Chinese or Asian does it, then in the eyes of those arrogant and racist people and their media with pea-sized brains, he is guilty, because how could a Chinese or Asian swim or run faster than us? They can only wear glasses and participate in math competitions like nerds.

He swam 45.92 in the closing Medley relay leg.
The best swimmers were absent at Doha. In terms of his competition finals he has improved a full second in 2024. His 45.92s would have resulted in a 3 metre victory. This from a swimmer who'd never bettered 47.43 in world finals in the past. Faster times are possible in relays because of the anticipation and flexing as incoming swimmer approaches the wall on changeover. The February 2024 46.80 was accepted because it was a starting leg.

about 60% of Australia's export goes to China, Korea and Japan ! They would be nothing with out Chinese..
The western made term Asian is misleading. Asia goes all the way from Israel over 75% of Russia to Korea and Japan.
