Crazy how this track, in all its versions, still sounds ahead of its time even now. Its current, futuristic and steeped in ancient mystery all at once.

Arguably, that thrilling paradox - music that is at once a pure product of the technological (or tricknologickal) present (and evocative of a technological, or tricknologickal, future) and suggestive of the spirituality and harmony - the alchemy - of an idealized pre-modern past - is at the heart of dub, and perhaps at the heart of roots reggae in general. Certainly it defines the most emblematic music that Lee Perry created (cf., *HEART OF THE CONGOS* and *SUPER APE* ).
My sentiment exactly! Although I didn't understand a single word (not even that it was Hindi) this is a 100% enjoyable track. Been listening to it for 17 year since!!

He describes this song (as part of the Return of the Super Ape album): "Bird in Hand had a quavering Amharic chant by an unknown vocalist, set to a sparse Black Ark rythm with ringing bells, the song becomes a beautifully simplistic dub halfway through". Don't know why or when the identity of this song was finally revealed, honoring both Sam Carty and the original artists.
The craziest part is I could’ve swore before I found out it was in Hindu that I was hearing the song in English... my brain was just interpreting it as English and i even heard “bird in hand” at one point in the song and I would always sing that

It's not amraic chant but"hindi" a version of Hindi song.
