This was one of my favorite scenes from my favorite series. I miss Thor. It was beyond awesome to have these powerful benevolent aliens watching over us. Man, who wouldn't want Thor to come down and tell off some a-holes on your behalf.
We loved Thor! Whenever Thor had an appearance on screen, my (then) young son and I would yell out, "it's Thor!" Those were happy times on Stargate Fridays. :-)
If Thor were to beam down now, he would have a full-time job, sorting out ALL the incompetent and useless politicians and leaders all over this planet... I truly believe that none of our leaders are fit for purpose... Come back Thor... Please !
I wonder if humans would have their "fifth race" status put on probation by Thor after the last few years. At the very least, we might not get the password to the Asgard intellectual legacy computer for a while! 😃

too bad he didn't do anything to take care of his heart condition and diabetes. I didn't like him much but he grew on me. But I think he should have lost weight and ate better. Lots of famous people passing from completely curable or preventable diseases. Jim hensen for one died of treatable sickness. Akira Toriyama just died because he didn't pay attention and bumped hhis head giving him a sub dermal hemotoma. The new Checov from star trek ran himself over, car squished him between it and the garage. All these things and it makes me sad. Even David Carrodine, died from auto erotic asphyxiation. All these people could have been alive today but no...
I've always liked this scene.. not just b/c Thor upstaged Sen. Kinsey, but b/c the Asgard appears to have a similar style of government (remember the ep where they made Jack testify in front of an Asgard committee?) so Thor knew /exactly/ what was up here.
Have a watch of Gray Lady Down for a different perspective ... I was maybe fifteen when I first saw the film and the scene where Cmdr. David Samuelson, played by Ronny Cox, saves the sub has stayed with me as an example of self-sacrificing courage to this day.
I agree that he played Kinsey as a manipulative, condescending, power hungry slimeball very well. But he played Capt. Bogomil pretty much the opposite, in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise.
he played a temp captain on star trek TNG , he made Troi wear the right uniform, made shorter shifts on rotation, promoted data. He was a great captain, but Riker was a dick to him. Was the only time i felt bad for the guy. Ronny was playing a good guy but was treated like a villain.
"Always a pleasure Thor, please drop in any time" - Thats such a authentically friendly response from the character of Hammond. You say this to family, or exceptionally good friends.
I love Thor so much, he genuinely respects humans and loves it when more primitive species become developed enough to truly speak with him and the Asgard
yeah its interesting how humans on earth 1)became best friends with basically the most powerful race in 2 galaxies and 2)borderline made peace with a race of beings who have to hunt us down in order to live.3)learned how to jurry rig a stargate and infact are in so much control they can shut it with an iron gate basically and constantly are montoring the gate to know when someone uses it.4)made one of the most powerful cities their home 5)were the ones mostly responsible for making the galaxy a safer and more free place.
the way they ended them was dumb, just as dumb as how they ended Atlantis. just blow up the world and fly back to earth. Leave the wraith in tact and still culling the humans. Really p me off
Sci-fi has become too popular and profitable and saturated ... so now it abandons the special genre interests of the niche audience and waters itself down to lowest-common-denominator mediocrity and multi-genre crap wearing trappings of sci-fi to attract the interests of wider audiences. Made by more people who just follow the money, they often don't understand sci-fi, they often don't even _like_ sci-fi, it shows in the shows.
I love how Thor says: "It is preferred" using a tone of voice that instantly tells you that what he really means is: "That's an absolute condition. You don't want to want to know what happens if you don't meet our demand." And Kinsey instantly understands. Like a true politician should.
Well, he went out of his way to say "this is NOT an absolute condition, but it _is_ preferred". That's diplomacy code for "yes, you can actually put someone else, but better if that's for a REAL BLOODY GOOD reason that you can convince us about, and not for political petty infighting". That makes his move even better.
Well they weren't that powerful. After all they couldn't beat the Replicators. They had to much high end tech that had no effect on the Replicators. Luckily though the gun toting American's had inferior technology that kicked those Replicator circuits
Actually... when Americans stoop onto the Replicators it was their actions that reactivated the dormant and trapped Replicators. Replicators where and extremely hard enemy so another approach was devised by the so-called Fuhrlings that worked for millenia to come. After that Asurans became a myth and all data regarding "the incident" was covered up by the Lantean High Council and the planet was isolated and labeled as a no-go zone by those aware of events that transpired there. The so-called Todd the Wraith played his part in aiding the Fuhrlings in stopping the Asuran threat. The same Wraith actually helped once in saving earth from destruction. His swore never to reveal the location of Earth and he actually did keep his word. The hard part to accept about the Lanteans is that they actually were not as "enlightened" and "innocent" as they appear. They also had their agenda that started many conflicts and costs unimaginable amount of lives and suffering all across the known universe. Even as we speak the modern day America is under corrupt ascended Lantean control. So what do You think about this concept for a SG movie? :)
well...I think its more than obvious that asgards could make our guns for themselves like nothing, maybe they just wanted to use humans as human shield :D...its all BS that asgards would need some humans for anything, they are way smarter and advanced so they could come up with some more advanced solution...also replicator circuits were kicked by weapon made by antics....as for the idea of replicators, its like nanites that can replicate themselves...ultimate weapon...and ultimately bad idea to make one...
Really shoulda went *Staring for a few moments.* Hammond: "Good afternoon Thor." Thor: "To you as well General Hammond. You requested my presence?" Though I'll admit, the goodbye was perfect.
"You came all this way just to tell us that?" lol! When you have a ship like Thor's, or any of the great Asgard ships, really, going to earth for an extended errand (like here), or even just a drop-in, or both in this case, is no more than just going around the corner for him... I love this scene so much.
Yeah tbh even older asgard vessels like Thor's could make the trip across the milxy way in a day, and he can also remote pilot the ship via a neural subspace link while he's on earth so it can be off flying around doiing other things if he wants and pop by to pick him up after lol
I assume the flash of light is simply Asgard teleportation technology, based on various other instances when people were "beamed" to and from Asgard vessels, so in fact Thor is alive and well directly in front of them.

However Universe stripped away so much that made Stargate fun. Replacing it with a lot of drama a lot of fans including myself didn't come to watch for Stargate. I applaud them for trying something new but the result was pathetic and killed the franchise
Not only that but it's going to be a trilogy. And the creators never like SG1 apparently that's why they wanna go and redo it all.
I love the way Thor puts Kinsey on his place.
Yeah Kinsey sucks.
Notice the use of the ET finger?
You mean Supreme Commander Thor. Lol. I don't think anyone aside from members of SG 1 are allowed to address him on a 1st name basis.
this is one of the most badass szenes in sifi history.
Yeah, you don't mess with anyone named Thor. Even if they are weird looking with big funky black eyes.
Literally just comment that without looking at your comment! Bravo sir
@@magatrone100 agreed.

Something that I just noticed maked kinsey take down even better.
Hammond said Thor, no Supreme commander, no commander, jist thor with out being corrected
And Thor called him general
They'd be the only ones allowed to do that Hammond & Sg1 no one else. What did Bra'Tac call him Hammond of Texas I belive and the General called him Master Bra'Tac in return.
To be fair, omitting a title is different than getting a title wrong.
@Master of Sinanju Master of Sinanju That's standard military etiquette. Officers call juniors by first name basis all the time.
I much prefer this Thor to the Avengers'
Evan and alien thor looking like this is unrealistic let alone alien avengers thor LOL
saquist it's a more creative take on Thor that's why I love this Thor more then Marvels it's just more original and creatively made character.
saquist well this thor has just sort of dispelled entire gould armies...so yeah lol
Marvel aliens look and talk like they all are from LA or NY

Then everywhere, the citizens, obliged to defend themselves against the world minority of revolutionaries, will exterminate those destroyers of civilization, and the multitude, disillusioned with Christianity, whose deistic spirits will from that moment be without compass or direction, anxious for an ideal, but without knowing where to render its adoration, will receive the true light through the universal manifestation of the pure doctrine of Lucifer, brought finally out in the public view.

I just love general Chekov and anybody that knows the series, knows he was killed in the confrontation with the Ori at the super gate. A really cool character and a great guy!
Back in the days when most people would accept that a high-ranking Russian general could be competent, honorable, and a friend to the United States. I miss those days. 😞

Mr. Davis was a great actor. R.I.P.
I love Thor, and the asgard as a whole. They're so awesome!

The "political" episodes of SG-1 were always well done. William Devane as the president was a perfect fit for both the series and the movie "Continuum"
he also became president in 24 lol.
@@thewewguy8t88 In 24 he played the role of Secretary of Defense Heller. He was still great though.
@@Tho_Me yes and then later on became president in season 9.(if you count it as season 9)
@@thewewguy8t88 oh, you're right. Forgot about that^^
@@Tho_Me yeah also he had a number of times he basically cheated death in the show.(at least 3).
Don s Davis is sorely missed. He was in my opinion, the heart of sg1.
I love the fact that despite RDA being the show's headliner, the way Davis played Hammond, there was never any doubt who was in command of that base.
too bad he didn't do anything to take care of his heart condition and diabetes.
I love the look on Kinsey's face as he sat back down. He knew he had lost even before the other representatives voiced their support.
If you wanna argue with the man on the beam button, be our guest 😂😂😂
I like Hammond's glance over at Kinsey as he asks "Senator?" It was a look that meant "Eat some crow,Kinsey"!
One of my favorite episodes simply because I love how Thor admonished the Senator for not addressing him by his proper title, Supreme Commander.
I've always liked this scene.. not just b/c Thor upstaged Sen. Kinsey, but b/c the Asgard appears to have a similar style of government (remember the ep where they made Jack testify in front of an Asgard committee?) so Thor knew /exactly/ what was up here.
One of the best scenes of this amazing show.
1:20 Thor gave him the finger, lol.
Ronny Cox sure did an excellent job of portraying Sen Kinsey as a real SOB.
One of the best scenes EVER.
Ronny Cox seems to excel in portraying characters who are pompous, power-hungry, pricks.
Right? The true sign of a superbly talented actor is when you come away really hating the character.
Very true. If he had a British accent, he'd probably have been on Game of Thrones
Supreme Commander...and don't you forget it human!!!
No matter how many times I see this clip it never gets old!
I just saw this on my latest binge.
I must of rewatched this particular part many, many, times.
I just love how they crafted the ending.
Years later... I can still watch this clip over and over. Never gets old!
"Always a pleasure Thor, please drop in any time" - Thats such a authentically friendly response from the character of Hammond. You say this to family, or exceptionally good friends.
As a certain Admiral would say "Sometimes you gotta roll a hard six." Hammond did just that by bringing Thor in
Thor's Voice = Michael Shanks
Miss this show.
Only the original and its most immediate spin-off. The rest......no.
Then only thing I liked in the new one was the nerd and the doctor :)
SG1 and a little bit of Atlantis.
I love Thor so much, he genuinely respects humans and loves it when more primitive species become developed enough to truly speak with him and the Asgard
When your friend is the most powerful being in 2 galaxies, outside of the Ascended.
😊
Carter Boyfrend ? :D yes i know he on 8 or 9/10 season be human and forget all but anceint boyfrend! XD
Fuck the Ascended
yeah its interesting how humans on earth 1)became best friends with basically the most powerful race in 2 galaxies and 2)borderline made peace with a race of beings who have to hunt us down in order to live.3)learned how to jurry rig a stargate and infact are in so much control they can shut it with an iron gate basically and constantly are montoring the gate to know when someone uses it.4)made one of the most powerful cities their home 5)were the ones mostly responsible for making the galaxy a safer and more free place.
Hammond of Texas may he rest in peace
Thor really knows how to make an entrance!

the way they ended them was dumb, just as dumb as how they ended Atlantis.

How much I miss this... they dont make tv shows like they used to...

You gotta love the Asgard, because they kick ass!
"Senator..._kinsey_" sounded more like senator turd to me! Love the script-writers!
Give credit to Michael Shanks' line delivery. He made the word sound like Thor was tasting something foul.
I love how Thor says: "It is preferred" using a tone of voice that instantly tells you that what he really means is: "That's an absolute condition. You don't want to want to know what happens if you don't meet our demand."
And Kinsey instantly understands.
Kiiiiinda hard to argue with the supreme commander of the most powerful/advanced beings in known existence.
+Whiterin If this thor was on the avengers he would get the every job dont with beaming everything into nothingness with his ship
lordjim1985 i love it, but at this point a would kill for another stargate movie. I wouldn't care what its about.
well...I think its more than obvious that asgards could make our guns for themselves like nothing, maybe they just wanted to use humans as human shield :D...its all BS that asgards would need some humans for anything, they are way smarter and advanced so they could come up with some more advanced solution...also replicator circuits were kicked by weapon made by antics....as for the idea of replicators, its like nanites that can replicate themselves...ultimate weapon...and ultimately bad idea to make one...
Really shoulda went
*Staring for a few moments.*
Hammond: "Good afternoon Thor."
Thor: "To you as well General Hammond. You requested my presence?"

lol!
