Mourning the loss of one our last great ‘outlaw country’ singer/songwriters this morning (Jerry Jeff Walker passed away just the night before last), and I find your poignant, raw and earnest cover of a Jerry Jeff classic. THANK YOU. My heart needed this today... RIP Jerry Jeff Walker...
jipsigal - Just found Todd while looking for Jerry Jeff stuff and SO GLAD. What a treasure. Can't believe i lucked into this. His story about JJW is wonderful and the BEST Bojangles i ever hope to hear. I, too, am torn up about Jerry Jeff. A reflection of my soul is gone...
Thanks for the reminder me J.J.W. Had a bad day and put on Todd and forgot how much I love J.J.W. songs. I think Todd named 90% of the artists I got on vinyl. Lol
@@tomwillard9134Not to be that guy, but I’m going to be the that guy…not really a cover of a cover. They both just covered a guy Clark song. Just saying. Important thing is we all are here to hear this cover of it. Cheers!
God do I wish more guys like Todd were on the mainstream country stations..glad to see there are still some brilliant young singer/songwriters left to carry the torch
The first time I saw JJW was so long ago a young David Bromberg was his guitar player. I loved that double album from 1977 that this was on it was “A Man Must Carry On” as I recall. But I also prefer the Guy Clark version. I saw him and Towns Van Zandt in Minneapolis years ago. Townes was so drunk he fell off his chair. But it was a great time.
what a bummer, Guy was one of the best songwriters ever, try "things that work".... Been in tears ever since I heard, my challenge to you Todd (we met once in Ohio ), please don't ever let Guy Clark ever be forgotten, please
I still prefer the original by the guy who wrote the song, Guy Clark. Maybe because of the great love he had for his wife, Susanna that he often mentions in his songs. Guy was a wonderful songwriter.
great song... it took me over 6 months to figure out that this bar I went to in Brooklynn referenced this song... it was called Skinny Dennis... I knew it sounded familiar, but I was just in awe of eating roasting peanuts at a mock up Texas bar...
“Skinny” Dennis Sanchez was Guy Clark’s bass player, as well as a friend to everyone in that scene back in the 70’s. He died sometime in late 70’s/early 80’s from acromegaly, if I’m not mistaken.
Patty Joyce according to Wikipedia (take that for what it’s worth): Sanchez died onstage at age 28 of heart failure in Sunset Beach while playing for John Malcolm Penn.
End of that song gives a whole new level of endearment!!!! Let’s all take a moment for Tom Petty’s passing and how cool for Todd to add that whole end to a great Guy Clark song covered by many like Jerry Jeff walker one of Todd’s Favorite.
Did anyone notice he mixed up the last verse, Supposed to be "Oh Susanna dont you cry , loves a gift thats truly handmade, We've got something to believe in ,Don't ya' think it's time we're leavin' " He repeated the lyrics from the previous verse "I believe every word your sayin, keep on keep on playin" . Also used Guy Clarks original lyrics not JJW using "Oh Susanna" instead of "Oh my lady"so gave Guy a nod there...
This dude strikes me as an original, and funny as hell - but here he's not foolin' around, as he tips his hat to the shoulders he's standing on. Nothin' comes from nowhere.
Me too! Mojo played around my hometown Dallas a lot when I was younger, always a fun show! When I heard that name, I immediately thought of this song... ruclips.net/video/Qt81bVae4tQ/видео.html
How I was introduced to Guy Clark, the love of my life played his music for me because my name is Suzanne. I fell in love with his music as quickly as I fell in love with Bert! We were going to have "Like a Coat From The Cold" played at our wedding, but he died before that happened. Some days I listen to the songs we loved and remember back when I felt like I had it all! At least I had some very happy years, some people never get that.
Mike W Now I’m not saying Todd Snider is the man but after October 2nd 2017 it shows the forward thinkers and how one artist is a little more than all the others named. Yes I too have 7 Tom Petty albums on vinyl. Good call Todd. Tom is smiling down on ya brotha!!!! Rip mr Tom petty

You do realize Jerry Jeff was covering Guy Clark, so its a cover of a cover

One of my favorite Guy Clark songs....love Todd too.

Beautiful tribute.
What a great cover of this awesome song!! Quite a tribute.
Haven't heard too much of this guy but I am quickly becoming a fan
Ditto!!!
I know, but Jerry Jeff just sang it so beautifully! My husband and I must have danced to it a hundred times.
This guy gives a different take to songs, and, he does a damn good job too!
He just sings the living Hell out of this song.
Great rendition of a classic.
Best version of this song!
It's somehow good to know that someone who danced to JJW appreciates Todd Snider.
He is paying homage to his mentor Jerry Jeff Walker. But lets not forget the great songwriter Guy Clark.
Interesting..i always considered John Prine to be his mentor

@@barrylewis5606 I think he has several! He named all the same musicians I also love at the end.
Omg perfect
Boulder resident and TS fan here. HI!

I love him.
wish there were more people that appreciated the power of a 500 dollar epiphone.
500 epiphone miles
500 epiphone miles
I don't know if that's an awesome comment or I'm just feeling emotional right now! But this is hands down my favorite version ever done of this song
ALLRED TODOROJO ok
Jackson Roberts im thankful for all the 1st and 2nd generation hippies there's nothing like hippy folk music
Damn good! Both the LA Freeway rendition and the Slabs of Dusty Wax song!
Normally I would say nobody should sing this song after jjw. But I think Todd slays it.
I still prefer the original by the guy who wrote the song, Guy Clark. Maybe because of the great love he had for his wife, Susanna that he often mentions in his songs. Guy was a wonderful songwriter.
Love this guy. He talks of life; he talks of life.
I’ve got my parents records, my records, all my cassettes still, and too many CDs.
Guy Clark wrote LA Freeway. So, JJW covered it. :)

OCD for lyrics? Give it up.
Said the woman on the sofa
I noticed that too. I love that, because Guy and Susanna had a deep love that should be honored and celebrated.
This real man...is the real deal. The shit! If you only knew..
This dude strikes me as an original, and funny as hell - but here he's not foolin' around, as he tips his hat to the shoulders he's standing on. Nothin' comes from nowhere.
How do yoking discargd
an item. Fromm iTunes?f
Guy would approve.
Guy Clark & Jerry Jeff RIP
Where do I get a hat like that?
My ears perked up when he said "Mojo Nixon"

Susannah is Guy Clark's wife's name.

Well, a great re-song of Clark's song, thanks to both JF and CG
Great vocal performance
I thought I was the only guy who had Guy Clark and Van Halen records
I bet he's got piles of Tom Petty albums...
