I share my total grocery bill for the month of January 2025 in this video.
Please feel free to share your weekly grocery bills with me in the comments section.

The prices are outrageous!! Being on disability, my income is barely covering my expenses. I appreciate you Steve!!❤️😊
One of the tenants in the apt building where I live is disabled and he gets food from a food bank (nice stuff, too!) I hope you can access a food bank to help you.
Great video Steve! My 3 thoughts:
• Everyone should be aware of prices and expenditures like you & Jim. 👍
• Sometimes “just having a beer” (or a beer & sandwich) near the pool in Palm Springs just hits-the-spot!
• When there was less focus on egg prices I’d see fellow shoppers open a carton of eggs, take a quick glance at the eggs and go. Now, everyone seems to open the carton, take out each egg and inspect both sides to make absolute sure there are no cracked ones…at almost a dollar per egg I do too! 😂
Lol I didn’t realize that was happening with the eggs now, but that makes a lot of sense! 😂👍
Steve i love the way you and Jim document your weekly purchases now i circle back and check my own purchases 😂
Thanks John, glad you are doing it too! 😄👍
Good morning, thank you for your videos I so look forward to them
Thanks Elaine. That’s really nice to hear. 😄👍
Haha, we know we’re old when we’re discussing in detail our grocery bills! 😅 but I relate, definitely watch prices. I shop at different stores depending on what I need- Walmart, Albertsons, sprouts and Trader Joe’s. Sometimes the dollar store. They all have their own bargains as well. 🛒 🥬 🥕 🌽
😆👍
One thing I like about Walmart is you can get eggs in a six pack. I don’t eat a lot of eggs so this works for me.
I see these grocery shopping & cost videos as simply anecdotal fun. Let’s face it, our entire lives prices are always increasing with ebbs and flows, due to some sort of geopolitical/economic influence. I know there are people struggling to live within their income and circumstances; and consequently they have stress and anxiety. But perhaps videos like these can give perspective to cope with conditions. 🤞🏽
Great video series Steve! Everyone can relate to this--it's interesting to read the comments about the experiences of other viewers at the grocery stores in different states and countries.
I’m glad you are enjoying the series. 😄👍
Our monthly grocery bill is around 450.00 monthly. But, I also share with my daughter especially the BJ’s runs. We are also eating cleaner, more fresh veggies/fruits/fish.
We have an Asian market that we get super high quality fish at a really low price. Overall, thank goodness we are able to afford this. We feed 4-5 adults with these groceries.
Wow. that is super cheap Vahne! 😳😄👍
I have to take my dog to the vet for her updated shots you know and her yearly exam anyway I stopped by our Walmart in Somerset to see what the prices was in there on some things I was shocked, three chicken breasts bone-in skin on what's almost $20 I cannot believe it. So I went over and looked at the eggs a dozen brown eggs was $9.48 and that wasn't even jumbo😅. A can of soup was on sale for $2 it was Progresso I'm sorry that's just ridiculous. I went over and looked at the chip aisle a bag of Snyder's potato chips was $5 Walmart was a $1.99😮. A pound of butter real butter was $7 I honestly do not see how people do it. I was talking to my sister-in-law Cindy she would grocery shopping Thursday night and spent almost $500 and still didn't get everything she wanted and that's just for 2 weeks she also got things that wasn't food toilet paper things like that but still I think that is totally ridiculous, then again she's feeding two teenagers and to adults. I don't see how people can make it I am blessed to have my little Amish store I told her she needs to come to my house we go down to the Amish do you see anything they don't sell with meat😂 well that's enough of my babbling I hope you have a blessed day blessings to you and yours❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Steve our prices in DC are about the same as yours in Palm Springs. Egg price increase is due to H5N1 (aviary flu) which killed many millions of hens. Sad but it does happen. Another great video say Hi to Jim we’ll see you on the next one!
Thanks for sharing with us Scott. 😄👍
Excellent Steve we enjoyed the video
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it Alex! 😄👍
Howdy! Yesterday was my birthday. But, I wanted to tell you, that we’re headed to Palm Springs on the 10th of Feb. We are starting to organize clothing, buying things we need, etc. But we’re going to a hockey tournament on the 7th. So we’re starting to get stressed because we need to pack for the 7th 8th and 9th. Then we get home from the tournament on the 10th at around 2am. Our flight departs at 7AM on the 10th. So we need to pack 2 sets of suit cases. Hope you’re doing well!
Happy birthday!
@ Thank you!
Happy Birthday!! 😊❤
Happy belated birthday! 🎂 I hope you have a fun visit and once you are here, it’s relaxing and you can chill out from all the running around! 😎👍
Happy Birthday!🎂
Good video you guys need to show your grocery items. Yes I got some bargains in my local market yesterday. Was glad for that. But I do shop around looking in other stores too. 🛒🛍️🌞🌴
Yes, I’ll have to start doing that Linda. 😄👍
Doesn't that shock you --going up 100 a month?? Someone very poor couldn't afford that. The days when I couldn't afford to spend much on food are still vivid in my mind. Eggs where you live cost more; quite a bit. I eat eggs because they are a good source of nutrition and (they used to be cheap.) Today I got 18 eggs for 6.99. One dozen was 4.79, I think. I just checked this morning, grapes are $2.99 a pound. I bought Texas oranges instead.
Thanks for sharing with us Ellecee. Yes, it’s very shocking. Your egg prices are very low compared to ours. Our great prices are outrageously high too. 😩
@@steveinpalmspringsca You're welcome!
Thank goodness for Walmart. Always interesting to see your grocery shopping. Helps me alot.
I don’t eat eggs very often.
It’s just me and my bill runs very similar to what you spend.
I can remember my mom taking out two quarters and telling me to get a dozen large eggs from local grocery, mom and pop type no big chains. I have not had and alcohol in 33+ years. I used to but miller lite 16oz cans. The cat food I buy for Tobey has gone up 64% at regular markets. I can get it down by buying from Amazon and other online retailers. I saw a package with 2 x 1lb steaks $46.00. Aldis bought out Winn Dixie stores and converting many to Aldi. The two nearest me are being converted. I dont know what to think never been an Aldis shopper. Do you pay 5 cents per bottle/can as a recycling fee? Being type 1 diabetic I pretty much eat same thing, same time every day. One every three months I slip and have a corn muffin. At dunkin donuts they have gone up in price AND gotten smaller. I really notice as I have them so infrequently. Great video! I got a 2007 Toyota yards in 2006. I have every gas receipt for that car, 19 years of receipts!
Hi Joe, thank you for sharing all of this with us. That’s amazing that you still have all of your gas receipts for 19 years lol! 😄👍
@ I'm good at saving junk. Not so good at getting rid of it
I’m just so glad I don’t have young, hungry mouths to feed. Things have gotten so expensive here in New Zealand 🇳🇿🇳🇿
Always love your videos.
Well, I guess that the price of beer staying steady because they figure if anything else you can just get intoxicated to forget about the prices of everything else.
Lol 🤪😆👍
That's what happens in Russia.
@@jeffporterfield4401 😂😂😂true
True, comparing same purchases is helpful but in general it shows some increases for sure. I get similar or same things usually and while I don’t have the exact numbers it goes up and up.
I've really been enjoying these videos your making, I guess the price of Eggs are what I've noticed around here are very high. at my Local Dollar General they are 8 dollars a dozen. God Bless and take care Steve. 😊
Thanks Shannon. Glad you like them! 😄👍
@@steveinpalmspringsca yvw!!!
@@shannonmanley9217 yikes!
Our egg prices in Indiana are outrageous close to 5.00 a dozen. I live alone so I buy a half dozen for 2.08, that is fine for me.
Thanks for sharing with us Pamela!
My daughter lives with me. We both eat the same things pretty much so we split that expense. Still expensive but it's easier on both of us to do it that way. 😊
That sounds like a perfect arrangement, Virginia! 😄👍
I enjoy seeing what you and Jim spend on groceries. Mine goes up and down too. I had to double up on grocery purchases in December because my truck was in the repair shop and my neighbor was nice enough to take me to the store. Prices just seem so high everywhere. Thank you doing these videos. You and Jim take care.
Thank you, Maria 😄👍
I applaud you on how well you document your grocery shopping 🛒. I usually shop about every ten days. I don't always go to the same place. I split it between three different stores. A different one each time because each one carries different products I use.
I’m going to try some different grocery stores this year just to check out their different products and prices. Thanks for sharing Renee. 😄👍
We don’t keep tabs on the groceries we buy. We buy what we want. If it’s too expensive we just don’t buy it. Your the only person I know of that saves grocery receipts from passed years.
:-)
Steve
Always enjoy your videos. I don't know how to ask a generic question that has nothing to do with this particular video.
I would like to see you do a video on the t. V shows you and jim watch, for example, I love watching the old t. V shows from the 60s and 70s. I don't watch many new shows. I'd be interested to see what type of television shows you enjoy
Thanks
Hi Kevin, I love the nostalgia of the old TV shows, but our favorite TV shows now are all reality shows like Survivor, the amazing race, the bachelor, etc. If there were enough of them, that’s all we would watch now. Thanks for the question. 😄👍
Hi Steve! You can spend a $100.00 in one shopping trip ! Pasture raised eggs are the most expensive!! Great video!
Hi Steve 😊the price off milk coffee and bread and breakfast cereal seem too go up every two weeks it was 35 dollars for coffee witch I did not get my sister said that’s not at that price ❤😊stay safe out there Steve
@@kathleenwilson9510 I buy half & half to use in my coffee & don't buy milk because it's too expensive here & it seems to spoil before the expiration date.
Thanks for sharing with us, Kathleen. 👍
Hi from Harmony, PA. Eggs here run from $4 at Aldi’s to between $6 and $7 at the larger grocery store chains and Walmart. We do have several farmers and an Amish community in New Wilmington and Volant here north of Pittsburgh where their eggs have been $3 for the past few years.
👍
Nice video. I dont like eggs now. As i get older some favorite foods i just dont like anymore.Pizza i love thin crust but most pizzas are so hot. I dont like hot spicy food. Even frozen pizzas are hot. I dont like Mexican food but maybe a barrito as long as its not hot. I want Mcdonalds once a month and i dont feel that would really hurt me once. Sorry i am not talking about prices but enjoy you doing it. Medicaid gives me a food card with nearly 200.00 a month for food so that is nice.❤😮 Say hi to Jim.
Thanks for sharing with us, Sally 😄👍
Thanks again for sharing Steve ❤
Thanks for watching! 😄👍
Morning Steve I’m like Jim I like a marg with my Mexican 😂 but I like a red beer once in a while to that’s a beer with a little tomato juice and a pinch of salt . Wow go to Aldi the eggs are cheaper our Walmart is 7.22
Thanks for sharing with us, Jackie. I will have to check the egg prices at our Aldi. 👍
Oregon I outrageous. 7.95 for eighteen egg! Not fancy! Fred Meyer or Kroger! Do not go out! 😊
Hey..drink beer get drunk..forget about it..next morning bad headache..can't eat....keep drinking....repeat......LoL..... Deborah 🇨🇦
Lol 😂🍺
Eggs are just under $4 a dozen for the cheapest white & what they consider to be "large" eggs at Walmart in Inverness FL. If eggs get to be $5 a dozen I'll stop buying them & you can look up different things online that you can use as a substitute for eggs for baking.
Eggs are $11 for white eggs here in Texas at Walmart I can't afford that.
@dorothrawalker1389 Oh my 😳😲
😲
I was watching a RUclips video the other day where the woman listed about a dozen different items that can be used instead of eggs for cooking and baking. I was really surprised.
I'm in Homosassa
I do computer shopping at Walmart. Eggs were about 4.50 a dozen. Had 1 egg, a couple pieces of bacon and a generic English muffin for supper. Pretty cheap. Very happy that I am an older lady who doesn’t eat big meals and likes cheap foods. And no, I am not unhealthy. Perfect bloodwork every time. Borderline diabetes for 25 years which is well controlled even with a small daily treat. This week at Walmart some things had come down in price but don’t expect that to last.
That’s awesome Dora. Thanks for sharing with us. 😄👍
@@dorawedlock3969 that's what I ate last night. A homemade bacon egg and cheese English muffin. yum!
Eggs!! Ugh! I must say it, though, I am very impressed that you save all of your receipts!
🤪😄👍
Great video
❤❤❤❤❤❤
We just went grocery shopping today, and the large eggs at my store are $6.29 a dozen
Around 4.68 per dozen in southern Illinois at wal Mart. We can get them cheaper at Rulers (it's a cheaper grocery store like Aldi's).
Things go up weekly here...hang on to your hat with eggs! What hurts is the main stay items for young families and retirees: bread, cereal, eggs, milk, fruit, veggies...not to mention protien items such as meat. We all can do without extras as need be like cookies, soda, beer, candy, etc but little people need decent meals to grow on and seniors need to keep healthy to survive. Now i heard bananas are going to spike. Really??? Apples and oranges are already outrageous. And to think todays prices will be the good old days prices all too soon. Good luck to us all...we're all in the same boat! 😢 waving, Steve. At least that's still free! 😂
Don’t tell anyone or they’ll start charging us to wave too lol! 😳😲😩🤪😄👋
I've noticed too that alcohol hasn't changed too too much. Eggs are 9ne of the bad ones, at least here, BUT I'm lucky in that we have a friend with chickens and just today they sent me home with 3 dozen for free
That's interesting information. What were eggs 🥚 in 2023? Maybe you don't have time to look through the receipts? But some things are outrageous. Eggs is one of them. 😖
I hope the viewers will checkout Steve's latest video. I hear that it's priceless and the cost of viewing is in the bag. 😂
You win the comment section !😊
😂👍
Are u ever going to do where u show us what you buy anymore
I just did
Actually my grocery bill has gone down because I am not buying many things. No bacon and very little meat. I do eat a lot of eggs and I usually get them at a good price at Costco. I used to eat out 3 to 4 times a week and now I eat out 1 or 2 times a week and I am very frugal eating out. I can very well afford anything I want but I feel like I am being ripped off by corporate America. Hyper Inflation! It also helps keep my weight down and my blood pressure and cholesterol down.
I totally agree with you and B! At least there are some benefits to all this corporate greed! 🤪😂👍
Tomorrow February 1st, 2025. A 25% tariff on goods coming from Mexico and Canada. For MAGA enjoy the higher prices and for American exporters, hope you suffer the consequences. If people think that higher prices will be just for imported goods, think again as retailers will use the tariffs to start raising prices across the board. This is what America voted for and this is what America will get.
Yes, it’s incredibly sad! 🥲
What is this obsession with the price of eggs we seem to have in this country! Eggs! Eggs! Eggs! Toilet paper! Eggs! Eggs!
I wonder what is considered the barometer of food prices in other countries? Maybe in Russia they keep asking what the price of vodka is every week? Maybe in Spain it’s the price of pork?
I just find it interesting.
@@gatblau1 trying to get toilet paper in this area at the start of COVID was ridiculous. I was caught off guard. I never imagined people would hoard toilet paper and leave the shelves empty
You should get some of your stuff at Aldi instead of Walmart.
Eat poor quality food. It’s way cheaper!
Why do I suddenly want food?
LOL :-)
1) I wouldn't shop at Walmart if my life depended on it. 2) Natural Light? That simply is NOT beer. "Life is too short to drink cheap beer", and 3) eggs were $3.49 doz. at Trader Joe's in Cat City 1/21/2025, up from $2.99 a month before. I simply wouldn't pay $8 if I never had another egg in my life.
And BTW .... I too am a "mature" gay man living in PS. 😇
Thanks for sharing JJ! I was surprised when I read a story this morning online that said Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods had the cheapest prices for eggs in the desert. I really ever eat eggs, but thanks for the heads up for those who do eat eggs. 😄👍
Remember 18 million {laying hens} were destroyed in dec of '24...
