I saw Mike Lindup play a couple of weeks ago, at the 606 Club in Chelsea. He was sitting-in with The Stacey Brothers and Royal Scammers-a brilliant 14-piece band playing Steely Dan. They introduced him, noting he was playing without rehearsal. You'd never have know.
Brilliant! This all fits in so well with my own experience of being a down-to-earth part-time IOW resident. And I can think of quite a few IOWers who went a similar way. Mark continues to impress me because he has found a good way to avoid the pitfalls of his situation and the bloody industry, and still have his original heroes intact. i could have done these things a bit better myself, if I had allowed myself to do things a bit more his way.
What an interesting and insightful interview. Particularly in light of the fact that he's on the autism spectrum and says he has difficulty speaking in public. You wouldn't think it from listening to him here.
Even though you weren’t supposed to like Level 42 if you were a card carrying NME reader, which I was, I loved them. A great singles band and a great dance band.
@@michaeldunne3379 NME reader I loved L42 so much. Monumentally talented. At least 20 brilliant singles. World Machine and Running In The Family among the best '80s albums.

Holdsworth and McLaughlin were born a mere seven miles from each other and John McL played in the original Tony Williams' Lifetime , recording the Emergency! live album .
Brilliant interview. I remember my 1st gig being Level 42 at the Hexagon in Reading, they recorded that night, and used some or all of it on the live album Physical Presence. I was hooked. Been a fan since. By the way Mr. King. I'm free next year if you need any extra pairs of hands, as a stage hand. I'd do it for free if I could, but I got a mortgage 😂.
It’s great to hear of another tour, however sadly no gigs in Northern Ireland, Ireland or Scotland. The last gig in Northern Ireland was 2016……. Come on Mark……..

Mark Solo album influences is a real gem of an album.
What a fantastic interview, thoroughly enjoyed that just like i have enjoyed L42 music since 1979……..thank you Mr King👏
Big hug to all three of you! Thank you for the time you invested into such an amazing & worthwhile interview! Hope to see L42 live next year...
David Sylvian, wanted him to play Bass guitar on the Brilliant Trees album. Sessions, but was unavailable, ironically he was touring in Japan.
The Level 42 lineup with Gary Husband and Alan Murphy is one of the most elite pop line-up of all time.
@@regaltip8A Agree on competence, but after the Gould brothers left L42 never hit previous heights.

Mark is such a lovely guy as well as a great musician. It’s a pleasure to know him and have a few chats with him personally.
Never been a big fan of their music but Mark is genuinely interesting and seems thoroughly decent chap.
Love Mark and Level 42! Never had the pleasure of seeing them live! Come to NYC!
Yes!! Come to NY!!
Surely one of the nicest people in the music biz. Fantastically articulate considering the one 'O' level...
What a dude, what a gent, see you at the indig02 Marky boy !

Totally agree. Those albums were the standouts of my teens.

Gem of a human.
Love this podcast - I believe David Hepworth was the journalist/host who was with the band for the Fait Accmpli Level 42 video.

Quite lovely. Dude.
Saw Level 42 at the Cropredy festival a few years ago, very entertaining. Mark’s brother is also a musician in Level 42 and Frost.
Please come to Australia we missed out for Covid
Loved that.
What a top man
Mark an amazing slap base player.
He's still a singing drummer in an novelty act! Thumbs up! 😂
Loving these shoes. Keep it up!
Merci !!!!!!
See you in Sheffield next year

Just realised thats the bloke off the level 42 fait accompli documentary looking ancient!
"without music, life would be a mistake"-Nietzsche. No kidding!!
For gods sake man, come and play in Canada: Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto Montreal and plan it for New York somewhere - we'll have you.
Tickets booked for York Barbican in 2025. See you then Mark.
saw level 42 at Love Supreme where they blew all the ancient soul heritage acts right off the stage….
"Turn it on"
Wow! He lost weight!
It was Nietzsche.
