These Linemen Make Six Figures Dangling From Helicopters | CNBC
0:53 "Helicopters are dangerous and powerlines are dangerous, when you put the two together you have double danger" Simply genious... lmfao
genius*
Don't forget the chainsaw
Baby girl, hold my beer, I got to get dem lights on.
What a guy. A family man that is proud to serve his country every day.
I'm surprised the helicopters can even lift these men with those huge gigantic balls in their pants
Big orange marker balls
This is so impressive that words cannot put it into perspective. This is certainly a job that I would not take period. I salute the men that do this work.
The man interviewed is very humble.
Badasses. Plus, keeping the power flowing even through difficult areas. That's awesome.
what a humble dude
I’m California the average journeyman lineman makes any where from 200k to 300k. That’s about 3x as much in their home state. I know because I work with these guys as sub contractor. They love $$$ PGE $$$
yesss sir......I live in California and I use to work for a utility in Cali.....
Wow
The cost of living is double to triple as well though.
@@el_duderino_manand the grid doesn’t even stay up because of bs lawsuits and load shedding. California nowadays is like paying 10x as much to live like you’re in South Africa 😂 except you can’t defend yourselves. No thanks.
90K a year??? They need to double that and it still wouldn't be worth it! Hats off to these guys!
Yeah that’s worth way more than 90k. You can make 90k doing plenty of other jobs
Base pay. with overtime there bringing in at least 100k+ a year
I've been watching the linemen videos on youtube. I'd love to do it
Great guys/gals earning their way. Not like overpriced tv personalities making millions to lie
WORD
So true
I like the accent of the man
As a tradesman, I salute you brother! We make the world go round 🍻
I can assure you this man makes substantially more than $100k today
Lineman make 150-200k without doing chopper work. I make 250-320k doing chopper work. I dont know where in the hell they found this guy or their numbers. My only thought could be the phone and cable guys enter " lineman" as an occupation on their federal tax returns. 8k a week or I dont leave the farm....
W Tomay how did you get into the chopper work? I’m 21 trying to get into it but the only stuff I can find is being a grounds man for a company and working my way up to try and be a lineman through the company and that’s not even a aerial lineman
Do you know what pilots would make?
Tyler Ifft ya have to go threw lineman school to begin with, usually only about a year, hope this helps
@@tylerifft245 find a pre apprentice school, start apprenticeship, top out, work as a journeyman and find a company that does aerial work
I am an aerial lineman and I don’t make anywhere near that. What company do you work for
This literally just happened in front of me and I was so amazed I googled and found this. So damn cool
I'm a first year apprentice and I make 80-100k a year depending on OT
Did u go to lineman school
@@codywhite8267 I did but the only different was $1 an hour starting. The knowledge from school only helped me a little bit when I got to the job I thought I was the sht but I realized quickly I didn't know anything
I plan on attending SLTC. Im excited about it
@@zachlambert7245 I’m confused, you can just apply to be a lineman without having to go to lineman school? I’m genuinely curious
@@brandon3504 gets you into positions you couldn't have got into without it. Most of the trade is knowing someone and I knew no one, I got multiple job offers after school, and groundsmen my age make 16 at my company. I'm going union after getting my CDL this month and without school on my resume and having a year of quanta apprenticeship looks great for my age. All in all it was worth it I went on full scholarship
People who like to do extreme for hobby go to this job. If you die at least doing something good not just wasting time.
At "breakneck speeds" ??? I'm a heli pilot and never traveled at breakneck speed...🤔
I hope they are getting paid a lot more than 90-100k nowadays..
Groundmen out here makin more than that😂
Where can i get the training needed to get into this profession?
First you’d have to go to a lineman’s college or become a lineman’s apprentice and then you need 5 years experience and your journeyman’s license to apply for the job
Look up Haverfield
Where do I apply?
*Please Elaborate !*
Depends on where you live. Start by looking for the local IBEW office in your area, then go talk to them. Depending on your qualifications and prior experience, they will guide you to what books to sign.
You go on a list, companies hire you off that list, and you go work for them.
Your paycheck comes from that company you are working for, your benefits are all handled through your local.
Jerry Eastman can you sign up at the local even with no experience and start as a groudman
@@neloramirezguitar yes
Brands thanks for the info
Harverfield Aviation is the one that has the highest rates from what I saw them at work in my area
Either they're lying about their wages, or they're getting bent over the kitchen counter something fierce!
I know a helicopter lineman that makes $130k, and he hasn’t really been in the job that long. This job is incredibly dangerous, but it isn’t as dangerous as it seems. Everything is very calculated and concise, those pilots are incredibly skilled. This definitely isn’t a job you want to do hungover however...hehe.
The south don't like no unions.
Foster IBEW All The Way!
@@projectkamikaze1325
IBEW 1393 here checking in
Jerry Eastman Greetings From Local 47 Riverside CA🤙🏼🤙🏼
im sorry i have to drink another beer
That pilot played battlefield
Is there a job I can do like that ,that doesn't involve me going near power lines? Lol I would gladly do it I'm not afraid of heights. Lol
no there isnt
Dont be a linemen then
Yes but no helicopter and it doesn't pay as good , cell tower maintenance.
i live in the bay area can someone please tell me how i can get this job
Grown men work
dude is criminally underpaid....i'm just gonna leave it at that.
Double dangerous- when you put a helicopter, chainsaw and throw some power lines into the mix
A 1st step ap can make 90k a year. I made 80k in 55 days last year. Haverfield isn't union. I wouldn't let a brother work for them & you can make as much doing regular linework as you can being an Arial lineman with a few exceptions like skid work etc.
90k 🤣 terrible representation of the true pay scale for these guys
my library takes so long to sharge
In india such men earn barely for a living ....
quantum chicken in India human life is worth less sadly
that's what happens in Rapistan
sucks to live in India
Haha I’m a lineman and I’m a union hand. I was at 100k back in May. And I don’t dangle from helicopters
Yea they got the numbers wrong. Those guys make around $200,000 or more
That's just what he tells his wife
@@chrisnewman8918 dangle. Lol.
How to get this job i need
When you put the 2 together you dont have double the risk, you have 2 squared, or 4 times the risk. It compounds. When you multiply ratios(risk = ratio), you get the product, not the sum, Nasa Trained Engineer applying theusual principles.
$100,000 is nowhere near what these guys deserve.
Ida quit and became a stunt double
90 to 100k is like a T3 working 6/12s
Wow normal lineman in Canada make that much
These guys don't work normal hours they are on and off calls
Just checking in 2023 I hope John is still alive
ใครจะลิงค์แลอะไร
"At breakneck speeds".....Hovering helo = 0 knots. Now, hovering is risky, but you'd have nowhere to do a forced landing in auto-rotation in the wooded area.
If they are really make the $100k+ figure everyone is saying, sign me up!
He may only make 90k but I bet he doesn’t work 40 hours a week. They’re probably on call.
He probably doesnt get paid much cause he lives in a state where they dont pay well... in California i see 50+ an hour where as texas i see around 20 an hour
Your underpaid kid. We make well over 150k building High Voltage Substations and we have all the same dangers minus the the Helicopter. Much respect for what you do, but if your a real Journeyman Lineman, especially IBEW, you better be making alot more than 100k!
In my 30 years of being a lineman I have been in many substations.. Your comparison between new construction work and maintenance on energized conductors aint the same. Nice try though!
To bad every employee in the work force isnt as humbled as he is
AT BREAKNECK SPEEDS!!!
Brazen Bull *Flys at 30knots*
Is it necessary to go to Flying School to become a helicopter lineman in a foreign country?
Now how can i get a job doing that?
How much does the helicopter pilot get paid.
เพาเวอร์ไลน์
Pay him more!!!!
Ya N***** hiring ?
Voltage? Isn’t it amps that’s more dangerous
Neither of them are dangerous by themselves. Put them together and its a deadly combo.
The human body is a resistor, with high enough voltage the current doesn't really matter.
It only takes a millionth of an amp to stop your heart. I believe that's what my professor said (1 milliamp) and even if that's wrong I know for a fact he said it's not the voltage it's the amperage
There salary figures are halved lol
That's not enough money

"it's not all about the money"

Not dozens. That’s super wrong.
I am pretty sure one day the word "lineMEN" will problematic for the Wokoharam folks
Could make around that or even more working in an oil rig n way less dangerous
No oil rigs where I live. Power lines are everywhere.
been there done that, much rather work high lines, cheers 🍻
Voltage doesn’t stop your heart
OK I CHANGED SOME SETTINGS ON DA FREE GOVT WELFARE DEPT CELL 3 G DID I MEN 3 G 3G
OR Linewomen...
In the world of equality, why are there no women in this. we need more women doing these jobs just like the men. Why do companies involved in this industry not having any HR department that ensures diversity. In we should reserved some job in this specifically for women
BrownDogIsInTheHouse they can but they aren’t it’s as simple as that bud
If women applied and qualified then they would be working as apprentices. If they do not apply and qualify then they will not be working as apprentices.
They can make the coffee, wait men are better at that as well, but all seriousness aside, how many women do you know who would have the stamina and strength to do this, they even have to lessen the training and requirements when they want to become firemen er a firepersons, stop with the feminazi crap, qualifications and standards shouldn't be sacrificed for quotas, there are circumstances where only the best will do .
They're smart enough to know a man's job when they see it.
Lol maybe because not very many women want to do this kind of work
no women in sight, #equality #whatsthat
