Antoine forqueray roi du baroque ici magistralement interprété par nos 2 chers musiciens. Je l'écoute je l'écoute ça me touche. C'est mélodieux et sentimental et grave à la fois. Moi je suis musicien aussi.
There is an error in the video title. In fact, this piece was composed by Jean Baptiste Forqueray, son of the famous Violist Antoine Forqueray. When he published his father works in 1747, two years after Antoine's death, he completed the five Suites of his father with three pieces of his own. Though, this arrangement for baroque guitar and theorbo is very fine. Bravo.
I tried to organize some years ago a concert of the Duo, here in Rome, but...no luck! The authorities were more interested in Rock Music rather than in this superb and intellectual music and performance. Alas! I felt very sad. But...hope never dies.
In fact, Jean Baptiste Forqueray, the son of the famous Violist Antoine Forqueray published an adaptation for harpsichord of his father's complete works in which he introduced some of his own compositions. "La Morangis ou La Plissay" is the 7th and last piece of the 3rd Suite. The authorship of this piece is really by Jean Baptiste Forqueray and originally for the harpsichord. This version for baroque guitar and theorbo is amazing Bravo and thank for the post
It is surprising as the Duo, in this transcription for two lutes, renders exactly the same "Air" and atmosphaere of the original harpsichord composition. Again, my very best congratulations. Or, perhaps, no wonder, as they are of an extraordinary level and ability. Bravo!
I'm quite fond of the chacconne form, so I'm used to it. However, I must confess it's about the fifth time I play this chacconne in 12 hours or so, and I'm still speechlesss. What a wonderful piece of music and what a marvelous performance. Wow! My deepest congrats to The Lute Duo for doing such an amazing job! Cheers!
Wow, the texture of the guitar floating lightly on top of the richness of the theorbo is just unparalleled. Spellbinding performance, and what an amazing piece too...
Anna Kowalska and Anton Birula are musicians par excellence. What a treat to be able to watch/hear them preform here on RUclips. Thank you! Their recordings will make superior Christmas gifts.
I watched them live in Warsaw and they were magnificent!!! Accurate playing and body language that intrigues. Apart from that they both are good looking which adds to the overall impression.
Rarely do I hear such passion for the music on a youtube presentation as here. You are both excellent players. You have my highest regards and what I consider the highest compliment; you are true to the spirit of the music. I can listen to this duet and only consider the music. The only other artist that I can compare you to is Robert Barto. I ordered your cd and can hardly wait for it to arrive.
Dear Anna, I am an italian lute & baroque guitar player and I had classes with Nigel North. I think Nigel is really happy of what he could transfer to you: you are a perfect image of his thinking of lute playing. Congatulations!
I could listen to the love Anna Kowalska and Anton Birula make with their instruments for hours on end without tiring, such is the pleasure their exquisitely combined sound brings to my soul. Thank you both for sharing with us.
Delightful. Ever since I heard their Canarios (Gaspar Sanz) interpretation I have been a fan. I wish their CDs were available more easily, say on Amazon. Early music is simple but so pleasant
Antoine Forqueray complete work score (including this piece) in the harpsichord version published in 1747 by his son Jean Baptiste Forqueray is available and downloadable for free on the website IMSLP under the heading: Jean Baptiste Forqueray "Pièces de Clavecin"
A familiar piece for viola da gamba. Lovely, lovely sound, fine playing, and a very good arrangement - it works! (And I would not have guessed it would before I'd heard this.) You give it the graceful dance-like movement of a true chaconne. I do have one gentle suggestion to offer, however: Could you work to maintain a more regular tempo and to stay together within it with each other? Ie, ensemble is the only element which needs working on, I feel. Thank you!
Absolutely gorgeous interpretation and performance, as usual! Side note: Anton, you are one of the luckiest guys on the planet. You know what I mean, right?
Wonderful! It disappoints me that I can find no performance schedule for you two. My wife and I will be traveling to Europe several times in the next few years and I would make a detour to hear you live.
+Chauncey Sullivan The sunken parchment rose is often sarcastically referred to as the wedding cake by instrument makers! Even the great Stradivari made instruments like this. There's one held at the Ashmolean Museum at Oxford University, with an unusually long string length of 74 cm.
Forqueray always touches my soul. I know the Gamba original piece and the solo Harpsichord arrangement. Wasn't this Ciaconna actually composed by Jean-Baptiste Forqueray, Antoine's son? In any event, a wonderful transcription, gorgeously played! Thank you.
Herrliche Musik, great performance, thanks for sharing... Freue mich über das LUTEDUO- HERZ, MERCI BEAUCOUP...
What's the total amount of strings on that baroque guitar? The first string looks like a single string. This is all new to me. Love my new beginning in this type of music. Also are one of the strings a triple string? Someone please let me know 🎸
Quelle belle chaconne...ce n'est pas une musique ancienne, mais fraîche, si fraîche...

Delightful piece, and delightful playing.

I totally agree with you. Captivating!
What a treat. Elvish music played by a real elf, Never seen that before. Thanks Anna.
Wow. Gorgeous. Thanks for keeping early music alive.

Qué preciosidad de pieza musical y que maestría en la ejecución.

Yes, I managed to get them too. Delightful

Love your sound!
What a beautiful interpretation of a divine piece of music.
Gloriously beautiful. The playing is sublime as are the sounds of the instruments,
Yes, yes, yes!
Togetherness ..... Mind, body and soul.
Beautiful arrangement and playing. This is really, really lovely, up to your usual high standard, - and some nice camera work too.

Love it!
Very beautiful. Nice phrasing and flow! :-)

+Stephen Hooker Hang on. I thought Forqueray the elder died 1745. Opening caption seems wrong to me....
the dates 1656-1728 are correct for Marin Marais
I am a baroque guitar player: I am jealous for the guitar: who made it? It has a very nice and loud sound.
It is by Philippe Mottet

Funny how both these instruments aren't lutes, but they call themselves the lute duo?
Though I must add it was truly spectacular. Bravo.
Excellent! Is it possible that the video image is squeezed due to a rescale to a wrong aspect ratio?
could be....

Richard Angulo There is 9 strings. 8 double strings and the lonely string is called the chanterelle.
Well, that kicked ass
Which Greek modes of the major scale or Ionian mode does this work use?
This is to mosicologists, we are just simple guys:)))0 Thanks for watching!
