Sara you are an original genius! This comes from someone who has practiced and passed only part one Spanish dance exam. I appreciate the time energy and skill to acquire not only this level of expertise but incredible interpretation. I watch this every night and never cease to be in awe and amazed. Makes me regret not keeping up this most beautiful and technical art form. Please would you consider doing more classical interpretation pieces? This is the best and most perfect performance of Spanish Dance I have ever seen or likely to see, fusing both ballet and flamenco, for me always enhanced by the castanets. Now that I have had time to get past slack-jawed amazement over this performance, I'm begining to understand a little of what this artist has accomplished here. I think it must be borne in mind that this is music from the time of Haydn. It was utterly extraordinary for its time. Having no notion of the history of Spanish dance, I do not know what the accompaniment by castanets might have looked like in period. But I am pretty sure it did not look like this. I am pretty sure that it has never looked like this. This remarkable dancer has seamlessly fused at least two dance genres into something new and wonderful. Far from being innovation for innovation's sake, it is so cunningly fused with the music and the viewer's concept of traditional Spanish dance as to look quite natural and normal. It strikes me as revolutionary. Even if it is not. Even if I am so ill-informed as not to know that this sort of thing has been going on for ages, this is one hell of a riveting performance. I have picked my jaw back up. But I'm still amazed.
Agree with you. Boccherini is Goya's contemporary and as Spanish as Spanish can get. Even Master & Commander film at the end shows Boccherini's Nights of Madrid, supposedly contemporary with the film's times. The art has no frontiers. LOL. Maestro Rodrigo and Maestro Yepes are also excellent very Spanish composers and performers.
