Thanks for the informative video. I have a black Chanel bowling bag in patent, I love the glamour of the gloss.. I wear a lot of black, so if I carried a caviar or lambskin black, I would look totally dull. The black patent adds a pop of bright shine to my otherwise totally dull black outfit. I have just gotten a beautiful black single flap jumbo in patent too. I love the pop-up shiny squares. I've got a medium red Boy in lambskin too, that is a different kind of understated glamour. Patent is loud glamour!
A few years ago I bought a vintage chanel black patent leather jumbo flap bag for a very good price. I think the appearance of the bag scared people from buying it. Anyway, the seller had someone paint, yes paint the bag. I cleaned the bag and used vaseline to remove the paint and I polished the gold metal finishes on the bag. Since then I bought another jumbo and a maxi flap bag. But that patent leather is my favorite and gets pulled out first! It takes a beating but stays in good shape. The patent leather always catches my eye.
I just bought my first Chanel patent leather so this was very helpful, as other viewers have mentioned there's not a lot out there about caring/cleaning for patent leather. Great video!
So, I just keep mine in a cabinet, not in a dust bag, with the chains tucked inside and have never had issues. I did see your comment on the other video and I haven’t had any problems with cracking - how bad is it? If it’s slight, I’d chalk it up to wear and tear but if it’s significant, I would worry a bit about the integrity of the bag …. Send me photos to decorativelettuce@gmail if needed!
Classically_Amy, THANK YOU! Great to see you, too! And yeah - I think mini is my favorite size for patent - that or the WOC (which is obvious from my collection, LOL). Let me know if you take the plunge and get one!!
Wow you have so many colorful patent Chanels but the conditions are all so great. Seems like youve gently cared and stored the bags. It’s nice to watch this video
Love your video and your collection! Thanks for sharing ! I bought a chanel patent leather mini rectangular in 2016. My sales associate told me chanel patent leather is the second most durable leather. Number one durable is always caviar leather.
Kirstie Ho, thank you for your wonderful and supportive words, my friend!! And, LOL, I totally agree with your SA! It’s a great choice!! Have a wonderful Sunday :)
I had a light beige Chanel that turned yellow just being in my closet inside the dust bag not being use for years... so I think you have to use patent leather from time to time if you don't want discoloration.
Becky Panda, YES - I have heard of stuff like this happening before! My only “first hand” experience is what I shared- but I agree with you. Good to not let them sit unattended forever. XO!
Luxurynewbie, you are SO SWEET! And I know - I was gone for too long. I literally intend to do one every two weeks and it winds up being once a month. ONE DAY LOL. Have a great rest of the weekend and thank you for stopping by!
As always, love your videos. Love your collection. I don't have anything patent leather in Chanel but have several pieces in Louis Vuitton in patent leather and I love them.
I watch in anticipation of my first Chanel bag, probably pre loved, but hopefully new, sometime in the future :). My lv alma bb patent leather bag slipped off of my shoulder and bumped/slid on the black bumper of my daughter's car as I was putting my suitcase in the trunk. Now I have black "brushburn" on the bottom corner of my bag. I tried to gently scratch it off with my fingernail but no. First time carrying it too!
Bev Erly YAY! Let me know if you wind up taking the dive into Chanel! As for the LV - that’s a great bag - love the Alma. I have never bought one but it’s been on my radar as a solid bag option - SO sorry to hear what happened to yours! I feel like I can totally see how that would occur ... what a bummer. Hopefully you can put on mental override and not think about it. XO!
Hi!! You know what? I never have! I have had lamb and goat refinished (Chanel did a good job but it took like 6 months) - but never patent. If you send it back, give me the full report!
Hi! Great video!! I'm wondering if the shininess of the patent leather gets "dull" or like "mattified" over time...? I'd imagine no and it seems like a really durable material... I'm contemplating between a snakeskin and a patent, and the patent just seems way more durable, although worried about potential scuffs that may "mattify" the shine. What do you think? Thanks again for a GREAT and informative video!!!
nomoreDietCoke I totally get your train of thought on this one! I remember researching patent and like, how “thick” the layering was to determine if it would ever erode or mattify or peel: nope! They’ve all held up just fine over time (10+ years). The big concern with patent is ink - like putting a patent good on a newspaper can cause color transfer that you can’t get rid of - I did once buy a python woc and returned it due to fear that it would fall apart - SO, I think my vote for you would be patent!!!
How do you usually care for them after use? Do you use leather conditioner or anything? There is this patent mini this ss18 act 2 that I’m considering as waitlist for black caviar is too long.
Mizuki Tan, hey there! No care required - I have never used a leather conditioner on any bag, although I do have Meltonian leather cleaner for little spots .. with patent bags, I think the #1 care technique, if you will, is to keep them away from extreme heat - anything that will warp the leather. Don’t be scared, I’m literally referring to putting them too close to a fire. Other than that, you should be good to go!! Black caviar DOES have a long waitlist - patent is a good alternative! Nice little pop of color (and shine!) -
I’m getting ready to purchase my first patent leather Chanel. I’m getting the black patent though, too scared of other colors. Is black patent maintenance free? Do I need to worry about the patent cracking or discoloring?
Crystal Wang, YAY that is so fun! I truly regret never buying a black patent - I may have to check this out! I find patent to be fine from a maintenance perspective - I treat them the same way I treat others (save for watching out for magazines and humidity), and they’re all good - no cracking or discoloring noted on this end.
Decorative Lettuce that’s awesome to know! I just worried it being high maintenance! I’m going to take a leap of faith and get it because patent leather is so beautiful and it’s something new to my collection!
This video is super helpful, thanks so much! I saw a mini rectangular patent blue that's similar to yours on the preloved market and I'm so tempted to get it. Is it more teal/turquoise in real life?
Love the colors of your Chanel bags! Stands out! I love my Chanel WOC! I do want another one! Thanks for sharing!❤️💕 I feel bad for your sister! Noooo!
Hi! New subscriber here, this video was very helpful! I hope you can answer me: do you use your beige bag with dark clothing? I have a similar one and I am so scared about the color transfer, but seeing yours so perfect calms me down. You say you haven't had any color transfer from clothes but do you actually use it with dark jeans or clothes?? Thank you!!!
Andrea K hi! That’s a great question - so YES, I do wear it with dark clothing and jeans but my PRO tip is to make sure the clothing is done bleeding off dye before I use the bag with it. My pro tip from a friend is: a) wash your dark clothes with an old white shirt and if the shirt comes out clean, you’re good or b) take a white shirt and get it a little damp and scrub a little part of your jeans/tee and see if color comes off - Hope this helps!
Decorative Lettuce thank you so so much!! This tips are great and will be doing them so my lovely bag doesn’t get stained ❤️ binge watching your uploads now!
Hi Decorative Lettuce...new subbie here! I found your video very informative!! I’m looking at a Chanel GST in patent leather, and was just wondering what your thoughts were...🤔🤔
Tiffany Holmes hey lady! Thanks for joining - I’ll be doing a new video soon, so thanks also for your patience. I think a GST in patent would be beautiful - I would probably store it laying down because patent is a bit heavy for big bags, but other than that, I don’t foresee any issues! What color!? Sounds gorgeous!
Hey doll!! Thanks so much for the prompt response...and no need to apologize about videos...life happens, ya know?! Im looking at one in black...I've recently come into the world of Chanel, and it is SO ADDICTING lol!! Hope that all is well with you and yours!! ❤️❤️
Love McClain, I do! In general, I do - I have some that float out and about in more regular rotation, but I like to keep them stored. I will say tho - living in Chicago - we don’t have bad humidity or other factors that would make keeping them in boxes potentially risky ...
Thank you so much for replying. I have been storing all my Chanel bags in their dust bags and In Their boxes. I notice in videos that you tubers have their bags on display and I just wanted to make sure I will not damage my bags by having them in their boxes for months at a time. I live in Michigan so it’s not humid at all.
Love McClain, totally! I worry about storing them upright because I fear they’ll start to sag - so, I usually try to keep them they way they came. I would LOVE to eventually display them (looks so pretty!) but am worried about the consequences ... hi from the other side of the lake, lol!!
I was storing my bags flat. Then I noticed that my flaps lost puffiness near the back pocket from laying flat on their backs. So I now have them upright. I never thought about lost of structure. Any Thoughts?? Hi from the other side of the lake🙏🏽
Love McClain, that’s a good point - I have not noticed a lack of puffiness, but I could see how it could happen - I’m mainly worried about my slouchy bags (backpacks, GSTs, totes and the Gabrielle) with keeping them upright - the classics and WOCs should be just fine - there’s probably no good way other than to pay attention to what happens for a specific bag ... here’s hoping, LOL!
Cecilia Vu hi! I don’t see much in their current collection - looks like it may have just made a brief resurgence. If there’s a product you’re after, call the 800 # with the product code - they’ll be able to tell you if it’s still out there and where!!
DominicFrancisMom hi! I never really have had to clean it - if I did, I would probably use a super gentle soap and water or a leather lotion - this is probably the bag that would need the least amount of cleaning, I would think!
To clean it I would either use water and a soft cloth or with some mild soap. Also I shine my Chanel bag using Vaseline. I put some on using a soft cloth and lightly buff to keep to shiny.
superling8, VERY GOOD and COOL! Thank you for the knowledge - hopefully this video will be all the more relevant. Was worried that there wasn’t a lot of patent interest out there, but looks like it’s coming back! Have a great rest of the weekend - XO!

YAY that makes me so happy to hear!!! Patent leather bags are just little gems - and all of my patent has held up great since I purchased it!!!!! ❤❤❤
Ugh I just got an LV patent leather. I’m in love D;
I love this - such a great story - patent leather is GORGEOUS
Are there any cracks on the corners/threading? I just bought a new Chanel patent and there are cracks already
I just bought my first Chanel patent leather so this was very helpful, as other viewers have mentioned there's not a lot out there about caring/cleaning for patent leather. Great video!
gaslightanthemfan how fun!! Yes - I have always found it to be super easy - no issues. I hope you enjoy in good health!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I just bought a patent leather first Chanel bag . Would like your advice if I should keep it as to its wear and tear . I have no experience
So, I just keep mine in a cabinet, not in a dust bag, with the chains tucked inside and have never had issues. so informative! thanks for the review. i have not been brave enough to get a patent bag but i do like the shiny look.
Cannot go wrong!! Thanks for watching!!
Love this video! Patent leather is the one leather type I don’t own but would love it in a mini. Great to see you again❤️😍👍🏻😘
Classically_Amy, THANK YOU! Great to see you, too! And yeah - I think mini is my favorite size for patent - that or the WOC (which is obvious from my collection, LOL). Let me know if you take the plunge and get one!!
I really like this video! It was really helpful because I am considering patent Chanel and there isn't that much info out there!
Sandy Su, so glad you liked it!! I’m going to do another patent review this summer - now that it’s back, I have a lot to say!!! XO!
Thank you so much for sharing. I can now proceed with my purchase of patent reissue
Jane B. Yay! Great news - hope you enjoy!! ❤️❤️
Wow you have so many colorful patent Chanels but the conditions are all so great. Seems like youve gently cared and stored the bags. It’s nice to watch this video
Awww thanks!! So far, so good. Altho I did get something on the coral WOC recently, which was totally my fault 🥴
Love your video and your collection! Thanks for sharing ! I bought a chanel patent leather mini rectangular in 2016. My sales associate told me chanel patent leather is the second most durable leather. Number one durable is always caviar leather.

Decorative Lettuce Thanks for video, always informative. XO!
Becky Panda you know it!! Thanks for your input - really helps me and everyone else here!
So sad for your bag! Have you tried to send it to a professional for colour spraying? It helps sometimes when the bag is in really bad condition
Helpful video! I think going black patent is the safest route.
YES. Black ANYTHING is the safest route lol!! ❤️❤️
Yay! I missed your videos so much. I've been checking constantly. Liked before watching.
Luxurynewbie, you are SO SWEET! And I know - I was gone for too long. I literally intend to do one every two weeks and it winds up being once a month. ONE DAY LOL. Have a great rest of the weekend and thank you for stopping by!

LYLA MALZAHN, thank you my friend!!! And I agree - LOVE patent leather. Love all of the leathers, but patent is special. XO!
I perspire easily in a tropical country, so I really like patent leather.
exas4791 it’s great! It’s hot here for about 4/5 months in the summer and fall and patent is so worry-free during that time!!
I watch in anticipation of my first Chanel bag, probably pre loved, but hopefully new, sometime in the future :). Chanel caviar has a plastic coating on leather a bit like LV Damier Ebene, it’s still leather (calfskin) underneath though.
Thanks for this.. got one preloved and the only repair is to have it re-colored. Any experience with this?
Hi!! You know what? I never have! I have had lamb and goat refinished (Chanel did a good job but it took like 6 months) - but never patent. If you send it back, give me the full report!

This video is super helpful, thanks so much! I saw a mini rectangular patent blue that's similar to yours on the preloved market and I'm so tempted to get it. Is it more teal/turquoise in real life?
I would say more blue … if you want to email me a photo to decorativelettuce@gmail, I would be happy to tell you if I think it’s the same bag!! 😻😻
@@DecorativeLettuce shoot you an email! Thanks again
yeah it's coated with pvc
When will you do Hermes bag videos? How did you score them? Do you love them?
Do you do anything to clean it with?
Thanks got such a an in depth review! It was so useful
Jasmine Lim so welcome! I feel like patent is having its day again - everyone wants to know about it. Glad you enjoyed! ❤️🥂
Super informative video. Thanks so much for sharing!!!
Did you keep your patent leather or did you sell?
I’ve got them all!

They’re doing a non traditional patent for act 2 I believe.
