Such a good interview. I could listen to Sam talk about Star Wars forever.
Sean Chriscole he's seriously so knowledgeable about it all. I'm quite surprised to be honest
I appreciate Sam's comment about the fact that the prequels are better for having been thematically ambitious (while falling short at times) than having been just fun popcorn affects driven flicks.
This interview aged really well. Everything he said about how people would take the sequels has really proven true.
You can't blame the fans for how they received the absolute dog shit that was episodes 7-9. "Somehow Palpatine returned"....
@@sampat10 I didn’t say anything about blame. I’m a determinist and a moral antirealist. I just think it’s true that there would inevitably be different people wanting and expecting different things out of it. I wouldn’t be surprised if you were the kind of person who would see being a sensitive snowflake as an insult, which is incredibly ironic, because the second someone acknowledges the general existence of opinions like yours, you just crumble into a pile of bad faith assumptions about what they were saying.
@@bisapien123 The fact you replied to a comment 4 months old and your youtube comment was 4 years ago glad to see your still on youtube!
24:36 "I would rather have a movie that had it's Thematic Heart in the right place and _really_ had something to say, than a charming effects reel."
*TROS has left the chat*
Oh, I love this man so much. To me, he seems like the kind of guy that only speaks when he genuinely knows what he's talking about, and he just _gets it._
Sam Witwer's words (right now, at the start of 2020), are pure GOLD when it comes to what was about to become the sequel trilogy of Star Wars.
I think my crush for Sam Witwer has reignited.
You may be actually got put out at some point how is that possible lol
Sam is a class act. Honestly Disney could of use Sam as Galen/ Starkiller in the flesh (in real life) on the theater screen. Starkiller “(episode 3.5 /rogue one ) just like the “Force unleashed 1. Great interview!
I would want him as either Starkiller, Revan, or Maul. In that order. He could even do Maul and one of the others.
Witwer with his points to my eyes depicted it as the Prequels having thematic Heart with something to say, meanwhile Disney’s Star Wars trilogy having been a Charming effects reel.
Aside from the movies However, stuff like Mandolorian and Fallen order treat their stories properly and Thematically serve a purpose, not just some Footage of Random effects expected to entertain for a few hours.
I agree completely agree with what Sam says in the video about the prequels having thematic heart, and I agree that the Mandalorian felt just as powerful in that aspect. I have yet to play Fallen Order though, and seeing as you have good tastes and went out of your way to watch a Sam Witwer interview I think I could trust your opinion. If you don'd mind me asking, would you recommend the game at full price? I love other stuff by Chris Avellone but I still have a hard time trusting an EA game despite the good reviews. Also, I was wary about the pre-order bonuses but those seem are apparently available in-game for everybody thanks to a recent patch.
Velcro oh believe me Fallen Order is a great game and embodies much of what makes adventure games so great.
I highly suggest it, just be wary that their is not much to do after you complete the story aside from exploring the planets and discovering Easter eggs.
@@Fi_Sci_ Alright, cool. Thanks for giving me your opinion! I'll probably get it some time in the next month or so when I have time to play. I wasn't aware Easter eggs were a focus of the game so I'll be on the lookout when I'm playing.
Velcro glad I could help 👍🏻
Easter eggs are not necessarily the main focus in fallen Order... But if you have knowledge of things like the Clone Wars show, and Star Wars stuff in general, you will be pleasantly surprised what you can find if you look closely. Just be mindful that you won’t be able to access all the areas at once, that requires special skills.
Yearlonggiant this why I love Star Wars fans may the force be with you all
It is December 21st, 2019. The last film of the Disney Star Wars Trilogy, The Rise of Skywalker, has released.
The Disney Trilogy never dropped the ball, because it never picked up the ball. Listening to Sam Witwer describe all the things Episode 7 needed to have, I found myself only thinking "Gee, none of that occurs at all".
Because Disney doesn't understand Star Wars.
"They never dropped the ball, because they never picked up the ball." Truer words were never spoken!! Great quote!
24:05 ....looking back on this like... damn..
Back to this again, wow
Even with the newest movie it still true :/
haters really gotta watch this lil clip
Episode 9 is "the charming effects reel". Prequels and the Last Jedi "have their thematics in the right place".
Man, I had chills listening to him tell of his friends reactions to see the movies for the first time.
Amazing interview!
10:41
“Me and Yoda, we talked about it, we thought it was a possibility because you’re two good looking kids but we *seriously* didn’t see that coming”
I refuse to imagine Kenobi said this any other way
I love that he did that experiment on his friend haha! That’s cool! Also his imitation of Alec was awesome!!!
24:42 he hit the nail on the head of why the prequels are better than the sequels before the sequels even came out
Im so jealous that he got a friend who never seen any star wars at all to watch them and was actually into watching them. Ive tried with people before and they gave it a chance from the get go.
24:42-24:52 I would rather have a movie that had its thematic heart in the right place and really had something to say than a charming effects reel. (c) Damn, hearing this after a sequel trilogy just makes me sad...
His point on the prequels was very valid.
Sam Witwer is just awesome. I'd talk Star Wars with him for hours.
My name is Sam Witwer. I never believed in ghosts until I came face to face with one.
I love when these two talk Star Wars!
This was a great interview with Sam. He is a great mind when it comes to Star Wars!!
I started with clone wars for my niece and she loved it! Now she’s a life long fan. 😊👍🏻
The problem with that starting with Clone Wars thing is that the Mortis episodes spoil Anakin turning into Darth Vader
In the context of showing it to kids, kids won't know who Vader is, and the image that appears for 2 seconds will make no sense to them, so they'll forget it.
Also he said not to show them all of it, just most of it.
You could easily think that it´s foreshadowing his death if you don´t know the context. Only the bits that really are directed at Anakin are the problem ("Please, Anakin." "You were my brother, Anakin!") but with only knowing "A New Hope" it won´t click.
sam is the best. been a fan ever since force unleashed, i like that's he's also very passionate about stuff while also respectful at the same time
This is how I'm introducing Star Wars to my kids.
Jeezus...... Sam Witwer is gorgeous and charming and nerdy.
Holy Trinity. ❤😖❤
Fantastic interview. Sam is so passionate about the Star Wars world. Could listen to this guy talk all day.
God this man is such a godsend, all the respect to this legend
Who wud of though that in 2023 Indys little "Sidekick" SHORTROUND would be winning an Oscar ??
Well Done Ke Huy Quan🏆 👏👏
Loved this interview! Sorry it was so long ago and I'm just now seeing it... oops. Loved hearing about Dave Guintoli getting introduced to Star Wars! I loved Dave in Grimm, and his movies I've seen. Now, how can we get him a part in Star Wars? Guest shot in The Mandalorian or Kenobi?? hehe
This show is literally the best! In the short time you guys have been broadcasting, you have come to be #2 on my list of favorite subscribed channels (#1 being Good Mythical Morning). It's so great to have a quality Star Wars talk show on RUclips, hosted by Lucasfilm employees and Star Wars alumni! I look forward to what the Comlink has in the future!
I know right. I just found this channel and no new uploads in 3 years. Bring the comlink back!
4:31 I'm totally using this order now
I LOVE the two of you talking. Thank you for interviewing your friends.
Are we just going to ignore how fucking strong Sam’s arms are. Like look at those hooks
“I was shrooming a lot back then.” Why is that comment gonna make me laugh all day? 😂
He's a jacked and a nerd. I fucking love this guy! We need more stronger nerds!
Since this just popped up in my reccomended, if you want to see more of Sam Witwer, he streams on twitch under the same name.
How has this video not gotten more views? It’s a slice of fried gold👌🏼
I really really tried to give the finale a chance, but I was cringing so hard with my face in my palms at the end scene of episode 9 "Rey Skywalkah" AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Yea if was terrible. She should have ended up a Sith tbh. She destroyed a transport full of people in anger using force lightning.
Hearing Sam talk about the sequel trilogy is sad
The potential was there at that time, but they couldn’t pull it off
Fr, tbh this was one of the best periods in starwars, just before the force awakens came out, with all the hype
I love these two together!
I wonder what he thinks of new star wars trilogy now
We know what he thinks the same thing everyone thinks. Deep down we all know.
Crazy thing is, his face is so familiar and i looked for movies that he had been in and there was nothing i remember, until i thought, he looks a lot like the guy from force unleashed, crazy good from the game designers to be able to replicate him that well
He did the face capture for it...
@@KJ_1810 well yeah obviously
"It's an art not a science ." ~ That guy
* Looks at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. *
Yikes. lol
26:13 I hope I did this when I went into the Last Jedi... That film is the only one of the new ones that is somewhat thematically sound.
27:35 So true...
I wanna hangout with sam
i am from the future, can confirm, no flying cars yet
I am Supernaut No, just from 2020z
Hey, it's Aidan Waite!
I love him. So handsome and smart.
I'm really glad that we have ushered in a new era od Star Wars appreciation in which the number of nostalgia stricken prequel hating couch potatoes has fallen drastically.
I LOVE the darth maul arc
Sam the rock witwer. My dream man.
Between Star Wars and movie score talk, there are no two people I'd rather get a drink with than these two.
Mos Eisley is Casablanca. Omg my mind was blown.
Vader’s final “NO” in Jedi, should’ve been a very low pitched, low volume, very angry, short , definitive and introspective as if saying to himself “I’ve had enough. No more. -No.” as he finally realizes Palpatine has played him the whole time. Instead of the long, sad and wimpy “Noooo!!!” (Don’t kill my baby!) that we got.
rewatching this post maclunkey... i wish i could see him comment on that
The first time I watched Star Wars I watched (2021) in chronological order (Main Movie) from Episode I It’s cool to here people seeing form different orders etc.
Considering what Witwer said that he wants the sequels to be, it's safe to assume that he hates what we actually got.
When you know you re following the badass of the badass just by the shirt they use. :)
I feel like it should be episode 1 and 2. Then all of Star Wars the clones wars. The episode 3. Then episode 4, 5 and 6. Then episode 7, 8, then 9. But this theory is pretty dope.
MR. OWL but what about Rogue One and Solo?
Is Sam the freaking legend wearing a Cobra Kai T-Shirt... he does have Jedi powers...
Make an Inquisitor StarKiller Canon!
Dawg, for five hours I combed through all four of sam's force unleashed streams looking for what order to watch the films in for my lil bro and then I find this. Fuck me. Fuck me.
He or keeanu reeves should play revan
Loving the Cobra Kai shirt Sam!
If only they knew what was coming. I wish I didn't know...
If only the Disney producers and directors cared as much as Sam about the brand and the lore..
I Grew up with Star Wars so I started with 456 then I went to 123 and then the clone wars and then Rebels I Saw the prequels first before the clone wars because I was Born in 1999 we Didn’t have clone wars when I was a kid the only clone wars I had as a kid was that 2003-2005 show I Grew up with the special editions on a two Disc set and when I turned 16 I Read a comment on RUclips saying hey on Disc two is the original version of the films so I watched the whole original trilogy the theatrical version
Dan Aykroyd is in Temple of Doom.
You know in the context of Star Wars naming your Channel “The Comlink” is the equivalent of naming your channel “The Radio.”
I love how he wears a cobra kai merch and this was before the cones kai show he is a true nerd not some celebrity who says their a massive nerd just to be funny
I LOVED GRIMM
I like everything he has done, tfu2 wasn’t great but he still killed it as starkiller. And the game is fun as hell, just short
Looking back this guy called it
5 years later comment but Sam witwer is gonna be maul in clone wars season 7?
So right! he predicted the sequel trilogy!
Has a cobra kai shirt 7 years before the shows
Watching clone wars now, you'd get the "Anakin is Darth Vader" spoiler... so i think that in this very moment, the best watching order is 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, clonewars, rebels
Correct order for me is 4, 5, 1, 2, Clone Wars seasons 1-6, season 7 - stop before the 4 final eps, 3 , final 4 eps of Clone Wars season 7, Star Wars Rebels, 6, The Mandalorian. Rogue One would technically be the first one before 4, but it would be confusing so watch it out of order when all's finished.
Not if you don’t watch the Mortis or the siege of mandalore arcs
Would he make a good Joker?
No
It's interesting to see this now! Sam's bang on. It's unreal how much myth, history + spirituality is in those 6 Lucas film's! Man vs technology! Balance! Destiny vs choice! State authoritie's using crisis' to control with "emergency" powers! The polar us vs them mentality that politic's deploy!
I was wondering the same thing's at the time, once George was gone it was like uh-oh! A lot of what's in the prequel's is misunderstood by fan's + is missed now. These new film's dance to a different, ideological tune. But I did go in to enjoy TFA. You can enjoy the OT as fun film's or feel them on a deeper level. I enjoy TFA more as just a fun film. But with each new episode, it *felt* more + more like something pretending to be SW's! If fan's think George had issue's as a screenwriter? Well, what d'ya think now after the ST tried to tie up all the loose ends? Just because the action, drama + dialogue is polished, "mature" or intellectual doesn't make it more meaning or feeling-ful!
With or without the impersonation's, it's a joy to hear Sam talk about Star Wars. He's so passionate that it seem's he's conscious of reigning himself in at times, so as to not take over. He know's a lot that's for sure. I remember bathing with the Princess Leia shampoo as a tot. Awesome!
12:23 he's so right. Damn he is smart when it comes to star wars.
For the questions towards the end… the answer is no, it had none of what Sam Witwer said. Also the fact that Lawrence Kasden, the man who wrote empire, was writing ep7 and fucked it up big time, with no planning across the trilogy was just appalling
Coming back from 2019, replicants are such a problem
2020 less of problem
Sam witwer: oh jesus boozer WHAT THE FUCK
Also Sam Witwer: GODDAMBIT COPE
I wish San would of introduced me to Star Wars.
wait Indiana Jones 2 is a prequel? wtf? hahahaha
Guido Russo Heck you don’t need to be a fan to know that
Alias ended in 2006 I think.
sam is a vampire
And don`t forget Mr. Hyde! ;) (Five episodes from ONCE UPON A TIME...and when you don´t know his Performance then watch THAT one! ;)))
RUclips recommended this
*oooooooooo…*
two bestfriends just being nerds, like it happened yesterday
Nevermind, 25:30 is what makes me sad. Feels like disneys Star Wars completely ignores the prequels as a whole
2:50 an evil spider butt.
Olha só, shape do pai ta bala
Sams reaction to the creation of the sequel trilogy
When your friend watches star wars for the first time then you remember Luke and Leia made out
If they made a movie for the team who stole the plan for the death star, they need to make a movie of the last member for the family whose seal has become the symbol of the resistance.
*cough* Galen* cough*
Simple times before the Sequels happened.
never knew ben lockwood was a sith
Does he know about the yakkora
starkiller coming to the star wars universe.....
