@@aimlovesmusic1469 I recall that too. I wasn't watching the movie, but years ago, when I was five, I walked through a darkened classroom where a group of toddlers sat in front of a big-screen TV, watching a "weird, animated movie that looked like Bug's Life." By the way, the pre-school was in Texas, and it wouldn't surprise me if some of the teachers were Christians. Anyway, I caught only a second-long _snippet_ of that movie, but it stayed in my memory even years later. Finally, when I was twelve, I was attending private school, and my PE teacher had this movie projected on a wall whilst me and other twelve-year-olds watched. I not only recognized the animation, but finally learned what it was called. Needless to say, I was pretty surprised by the cursing. Also, I was confused, because the adults always kept telling us that curse words were bad. But in that same school, I got in serious trouble for supposedly saying the F word even though I actually said "frick." ...And allowed us to watch this movie. Grown-ups of the 2000's/2010s had a weird relationship with it, I swear.
To be honest, it was a good movie on its own. The only thing it had in common with Bug's Life was really just the fact that both movies talk about ants.

It's crazy that two competing film industries both had artists and writers that felt overworked and underrepresented and both studios came to the conclusion of making movies about being an ant under pressures of tyrants that rise up and take control over their lives IN THE SAME YEAR.
Because Eisner took the concept with him to DreamWorks when he left Pixar to start the company. That isn’t to say Antz is a ripoff of A Bug’s Life- far from it, the only things they have in common are super surface-level- but he used the same basic elements in order to create a film to compete with Disney.
@therabbitfollower5550 No I agree. I think both movies should be judged on their own merrit. Bugs Life was more of a critique on capitalism and about how a small act of justice can ignite others to stand up for themselves and about how workers don't need the oppression of the wealthy to tell them what to do and that individualism and creativity can help a system flourish if it's nurtured rather than stomped on by conformity and authoritarianism, it's hopeful. While Ants on the other side is a much more cynical view on society and tackles concepts like the ethics of social cleansing and who it truly benifits the elete furthering their personal agendas, and how mindless patriotism and compliance without criticism can lead to good people fighting and dying in a war that they don't even believe or fully understand in just to oil the machine.

Because people today have grown into overly sensitive pussies. What was rated G in the 90’s would be rated PG-13 by today’s standards. Add a cigarette, now you have an R rated film.
I honestly feel like Antz is one of the most underrated movies I've ever watched in my life. It's literally so funny and I will never understand why people don't like it for find it really boring, cause it's got such good characters, the humour is on point, the story is well written, the acting is done so well, the soundtrack is so catchy and overall it's just a fun movie to watch. I hope more people find out about it and get to enjoy it as much as I do
It definitely seems a lot funnier than I remember, I'd like to watch it again. I honestly think a really big part of why ppl didn't like it though was the artstyle,, the characters r not the most appealing to look at and the colours are a bit drab for an animated family movie of the time. It also had to rival with a bugs life which came out the same year, was a lot more aesthetically appealing, and did way better in the box office
I LOVED this movie as a kid. Absolute gem of a movie. I didn't really like Bug's Life that much, all the side characters were just annoying and felt like they existed only to try and convince me to buy merch or something.. but Antz was a great movie! Love the rendition of "the ants go marching on" in it as well lol Very very slept on. I think if the art style were more appealing it had done better but honestly it fits the movie's tone much more I think if it weren't for whatever reason advertised as a "family movie" for kids, it would have done a lot better.. because it didn't feel like it was intended to be for kids, even aside from the swearing lol
Oh my gosh… that bit scared me so bad when I was little. I had this weird uneasy feeling when the wasps showed up in this vid but I couldn’t recall why it was making me so uncomfortable. Trauma officially revisited! Some twenty years later and seeing the lady wasp still makes my guts clench lol
I remember that scene. Boy, that one was creepy. And a bit disturbing. Mind you, I wasn't extremely devastated, but my twelve-year-old self just gazed numbly at the movie thinking... _'How is this supposed to be a joke?'_ Because to my remembrance (I haven't seen it in years), it was played as a form of crude humor.
