    Woodworking Beginner:
    This test is only if you want to saw with precision, with a miter saw.(test is not intended for rough and hard work).
    Tips and Test:
    Very important if you would like to saw with precision. (avoid torsion as much as possible)!
    Always choose a Miter saw with a handle positioned in a VERTICAL line above the saw blade.
    Everything must be aligned, slide rails, handle, and saw blade,it is much better this way the blade will not tilt.
    Because there is some torsion in the aluminum housing .
    And choose an engine with softstart on it to prevent wear of the gear and worm shaft.
    It is very important that everything is aligned.
    Here are some examples to show how the handle must be positioned above the blade.
    Bosch gcm 800 sj / Bosch gcm 8 sjl / Evolution rage 3 / FESTOOL KS 60 / Bosch GCM 8 SDE / FESTOOL KS 60 E KAPEX / Metabo KGSV 72 Xact / Bosch PCM 8 SD / Hitachi C10FSH / Ridgid MS255SR 10-inch / Evolution Fury3-S / Evolution R255SMS / Metabo HPT C10FSBS / Hitachi C10FSB / Hitachi C10FS.
    (This also is the case with the Miter saw without the slide rails).
    (If you want). You can test it yourself at home if there is torsion in the aluminum housing.
    Step-1. First you make a saw cut from +-5 mm deep in to a flat piece of wood about +- 20 mm thick to this with the normal handle positioned on the right side of the Miter saw (the wood it will remain in place until the test is completed).
    Step-2. Then repeat this by pushing the saw blade down with your hand (finger) on the aluminum protective cover were the saw blade is cased in. Just now only do this without the running engine.
    Step-3. Now you can see if the saw blade will be positioned in or next to the saw cut. If the saw blade is (+- 0,2 / 0,5 mm) next to the saw cut then there is torsion in the aluminum housing (test is completed).
    Step-4. Therefor it is much better to choose a Miter saw with the handle positioned VERTICAL in line above the saw blade.
    The second option is the handle positioned HORIZONTAL in line above the saw blade.
    Step-5. When you measure the vertical angle square of you're sawblade don't forget that there is always some torsion in the aluminum housing.
    Conclusion:how further away the handle is from the saw blade how more chance of torsion in the aluminum housing don't go for that (the choices are yours).
    Also with a cheap slide miter saw it is still better the handgriff in line a above the saw blade than on the right side. Maybe they will make it someday then we have a winner...

    What’s up with the hold down catching. Mine caught the first time I used it after unboxing. I followed the advice of some posts and got it released. I use your technique of pushing back on the body and dropping the shaft before I lock it. The locking seems to be putting little notches in the shaft that eventually start catching again and need to be knocked down. Also, when I managed to pull too hard and have my shaft exit the housing, I had a devil of a time getting it back on due to the little spring wire that became an obstruction. Can you do a deeper dive on the hold down and how to deal w/ these types of issues?

    At 21:12 you try to show where the ratcheting clamp can attach to the Kapex extensions, but you rushed the presentation and blocked the camera's view. I don't see anywhere to attach the ratcheting clamp on my extensions.

    you forgot to show the special height lock out for cutting tall pieces ;)... i'm getting pretty deep into festool products .. it's all about the "system " im a 30yr cabinet/ wood worker guy and as i get more festool products i look back and wonder how i ever lived without them .. i do ultra high end installation work and the awesome dust collection abilities allow me to work inside homes while other guys have to setup in a garage etc .. i smile as i watch them running back and forth to make a cut while I'm setup 10 ft from my project ;).. i know anything festool is as expensive as hell but .. "the system" makes it worth it .. i have both ts55 and 75 , kapex and stand , 2 mft3 tables , 1400 router, ct26, and just picked up the domino 500 a few days ago .. and of course i have just about all the accessories you can get for them . i hope they do a show on the system to show how all the tools work together to become more than the sum of the tools ;)

  • @libsrcrazy9634

    Hi. Love the videos. I’m new to festool and woodworking. I have a kapex and a mini. The hose for the mini is too small for the kapex. Is there an adapter or something ? Can I buy/connect/ use a bigger hose on the mini instead of the one that came with it for better suction? Are there any in person instructional classes? I’m in Rhode Island
    Thank you

    • @darrinmc
      @darrinmc 3 года назад

      I was told that the larger 36mm hose will fit the mini and midi. There are non-Festool hoses that will fit and are cheaper but the ones I found aren't anti-static.

    • @whoDatBeDare
      @whoDatBeDare 3 года назад

      @@darrinmc Be careful with the non anti static hoses. As they could burn out the electronic sensors in the vacs.

      get the 36 diameter hose- its expensive but it really improves dust collection well worth the money . fits the mini dust extractor too.

    How timely, I just bought one last night. When asked about what’s new, isn’t the entire motor completely new?

    • @ssw77west
      @ssw77west 4 года назад

      Yes, they redesigned it for better torque and longevity. The original motor had those problems in relation to the difference in voltage in our country versus Europe. He wouldn’t say that on camera for obvious reasons. It was a well known problem after a few years of ownership from what I’d heard. We had one sent in for repair to the factory repair center in Indiana and they repaired the motor and did an overall tune up also.

    I really want to buy a kapex 120 but I also want cordless for when there's no power. Ive been looking at the front slide 10" makita 18v x2 mitre saw, anyone know if they are any good?

    • @ThisTall
      @ThisTall 4 года назад +2

      Great dust collection but I think they weigh almost twice as much as the Kapex, and the machining accuracy is exactly the same standard as the rest of the Chinese saws. Also one thing I noticed is the way they built the bevel tension knob is it loosens the entire saw from the base, so the deflection is actually really bad unless you really tighten the crap out of it.

      @Kiss jd - I feel you on that. I’ve been wanting the Kapex badly, but I’m holding out for a cordless version. Knowing Festool they’ll sure to have one eventually, if not soon. I hope.

    • @ssw77west
      @ssw77west 4 года назад

      P F Yeah, That’d be nice, but knowing Festool pricing it would be around 2,000 US up from the 1, 500 that it already costs. Ok, maybe I’m over exaggerating here a bit but you get my point on the new price.

    How do you adjust the laser

    • @orenfharris
      @orenfharris 4 года назад

      I think it says in the manual that comes with it. Basically you break a little plastic seal on the left side where the round circles are and use a little screw philps (or maybe its pozi?) to adjust it one way or another. adjustable on 3 axises. Other people also have youtube videos on it if you search.

    • @whoDatBeDare
      @whoDatBeDare 3 года назад +1

      If you call their repair centre for calibration they will ask you to bring it in. It's like taking your iMac to Apple and get charged extra for replacing parts you don't need. It's another income stream.
