During the early eighties a Shackleton & a firefly did a tour of England and flew out of Liverpool airport!...I remember them flying over our house in Speke.....Great memory to have!
Fairey was a UK company who specialized in naval aircraft (perhaps the British equivalent, on a much smaller scale, of Grumman) and they made some good, tough aircraft for the Royal Navy.
Fairey Aviation had a service depot at Ringway [now Manchester Airport in the UK] in the mid-1950s. They used to service Fairey Gannets for the RN Fleet Air Arm. A Firefly could often be seen parked outside the hangar area amongst the Gannets waiting for overhaul. I used to pass by on the road adjacent to the site cycling on my way to school.
Sadly i witnessed the Firefly crash at Duxford 2003. That was the last show i attended, Sad day. But what an aircraft you have there, its a thing of beauty.
Hi Eddie, was nice talking to you in Page. I was late the next day at the airport so didn´t see you depart. I wasn´t at the airport until 6 am - still too late. Would have liked to see your plane up close.
