Hi Anthony. Yes, the DA bivi is really heavy fabric. No light gets through unless you leave something open! Definitely worth considering at some point👍
Looks good. All Bomb proof equipment. That will last, coping with all the weather that we get. Well strong winds might wreek havoc with Basha. Well done 👍🏻
Hi Michael. Yes, really robust equipent. I think in strong winds you'd need to be careful on which direction you set up and also set it a little lower to the ground. But I'd probably set the basha up in an enclosed tent pattern. Thanks for watching & all the best!👍
Thanks Dan! It's certainly top quality gear, but I wouldn't want to carry it too far 😁 Hope all is OK with you. Looking forward to your next update👍 Stay safe!
Thank you for the upload. This is the setup that I've been thinking about using for walking the Ridgeway path, hopefully in June this year. I know it's not the lightest but I like the idea of it's flexibility and the robustness of the materials.
Hi Simon. Yes, certainly a robust setup and as you say, super flexible. I guess everyone needs to make their own decision on the weight. Some people carry that much in beer! 😁 All the best and thanks for watching👍
Nice movie you have made. Here in Northern Norway we do not use bashas much ,so it is interesting to see your setup. I must say that the hooped bivy looks a small piece of equipment, but I think I would have been rather claustrophobic spending a night in one with the zippers closed:) Hope lockdown will end soon so you can hit the trail and with this basha or any other gear you have for wild camping:)
That bivi is pretty short on space and it is heavier than some one person tents 😁 So it is an enjoyable camping experience in the right conditions, but not a very logical one! Hope you are keeping well👍👍
Great stuff Des. Its amazing what can be achieved when sleeping outdoors. I've been used to having my normal tent and my comforts. The bivvy interests me but waking up in the middle night I might panic and think I'm in a coffin lol. If you found the right spot on a warmer night the bivvy might be an interesting way to go. Can I ask as well what stove do you use. I'm really looking at the Coleman stoves with the neoprene cup but I'm really not sure. You seemed to have used you stove on a few of your videos and wondered on your thoughts on cooking outdoors. Great informative video. Hopefully we will all be out in the countryside soon and get the tent strapped to our backs and away we all go lol 😁😂⛺👍👍
Hi Scott. Hooped bivis can be a bit claustrophobic, but a great camping experience if the conditions are right. The stove is an OEX Etna. I think they are only about £15 or so and it works well. I usually use a little wind shield with it if it's breezy. Fingers crossed we can get out camping soon! All the best👍
They're a really tough and versatile piece of kit, for very little money! Only downside for me is they are slightly heavy and bulky. Cheers for watching & commenting👍
Cheers Alan! The Dutch Army bivvies aren't the roomiest. I suspect the army don't get the luxury of an air mat either, so that also reduces headroom. But really warm and I've never had condensation in it. Hope you're well and looking forward to getting out in the hills now!👍
Great setup Des. I don't think I'll every fancy spending the night in a bivy, but I can totally understand how some people love the experience... I imagine it adds to the adventure. However, I might try that tarp setup as a shelter when out on a day hike. All the best.
Hi there. Yes, it would work great as a day shelter if you use walking poles. If the guy ropes were already attached, it would probably take only 2 or 3 minutes to set up. All the best👍
Just picked up my first Basha in DPM so this video covered every thing I wanted to know. I particularly was interested if there was room for an inflatable mattress in a Dutch Hooped bivi.
Hi. Sorry about the low response. In the DA bivi, I find a fully inflatable sleeping mat takes away too much headroom and makes things too clautrophobic. I bought a thin 3cm self inflating mat and that works fine. Downside is that thay are a little heavier than a fully inflating mat. Hope that helps👍
Hi Mark. A lot of my camping trips are quick one or two nighters. So it's a great way to find out if wild camping is for you. Hope you are keeping well👍
Good on you Des, a simple but effective setup. I had one similar to that in November 2020 in horrendous weather and it kept me dry. Lockdown is nearly over atb Taff 🤠👊
Thanks Taff. Great to hear a similar setup worked well for you. Hardly any wind on my test, so useful info👍 Soon be out now👍 Hope you are keeping well!
It's definitely not lightweight! More often than not, I use the DA bivi on its own, but nice to have some options if I want to pair a basha with it. Cheers for watching 👍
Looks really cool! I would be terrified to do that open set up here in Pennsylvania USA due to the coyotes and snakes 😱 oh and the bears 😳. I mean nothings keeping out a bear but the venomous snakes are what I’m most afraid of here . My biggest fear is waking up staring at a rattlesnake or copperhead 😱 😬. The birds in the background are so soothing and relaxing. ❤️ What a great way to enjoy the outdoors when you aren’t able to go to the wilderness. 🥰 great video!
Hi Brenda. They are gradually trying to phase out our lockdown now. So hopefully only about three weeks until we're allowed to camp. We only have one venomous snake in the UK and they are extremely rare and shy 😁 So tarp camping is quite popular over here. All the best👍
I love a bivvi and tarp, super flexible and more of a real outside experience than being zipped inside a tent. I think for me personally I would find your set up too heavy and bulky but there is no doubting the bashas robustness. Mine tarp and bivvi set up is a DD Superlight and a Rab ridge master twin hooped bivvi but tbh, under a tarp the need for a hooped bivvi is a bit redundant. Atb.
Hi Dave. Agreed, bivi camping is a great experience. No getting away from it, the ex army gear is heavy! The basha with Hooped Bivi is probably overkill, but nice to have some extra cover in certain conditions. All the best & thanks for watching! 👍
Thanks! I was thinking if it turned really windy, you could even lower it right down and peg the open side. I completed the 10k a few weeks back. Very slow but covered the ground 😁 All the best👍
They are a great size for doing standalone shelters with poles. I think a 3x3 is sometimes too big. Funnily enough I was just poring over OS maps app trying to decide 😁 I'm thinking maybe The White Peak up around Buxton. Not sure whether it will be this setup or tent though👍
Hi Des I really enjoyed this!! Looked cosy! Just one thing though, I cannot tell you how many porn related comments I’m getting on my parkgate video! Can’t work out what it’s picked up on in that murky world! Hope all well too. Paul
Hi Paul. Yes, it is a really cosy bivi.I sometimes get one or two dodgy links on a new video. I always delete/block/report as spam, and it does seem to have reduced. I'm doing good, thanks. Managed to get out for a decent walk in the White Peak today. Just what I needed! 😁
Ģreat stuff! I look forward to seeing how you get on with it. So far I've never had even a hint of condensation in mine. The only thing I'd say, is with it being tight for headroom, a nice flat pitch is essential. If you're sliding about on your mat it is a real pain! All the best👍
Hello my friend look like you are having a good time!
happy weekend!
Hi Marilu! Always good to spend a night under canvas 😁 Have a great weekend also!👍
this is awesome! 💕🌹👍
Thank you! 👍
All looks very cosy Des...hope to see you out with this setup out in the woods soon.
Can't wait Steve. Might give it a few days until the initial rush has died off. Thinking about trying a couple of nights in the White Peak. Cheers👍
Looks more airy than the normal tent. Super like 👍
Yes, you are quite open to the elements (and insects!) so you need to choose the right conditions. All the best!👍
great setup! you are very prepared!
Thanks! With our lockdown starting to ease, it won't be too long before we can get out camping again properly over here in the UK! 😁 All the best👍
No matter where you are at always decent to get a wee camp out . Nice one Des
Very true mate! But looking forward to it being a little bit further from home 😁 All the best👍
Awsome set up!
Cheers mate! It does give a great area of additional shelter. Thanks for watching👍👍
Nice clip Des - Looks like a good setup!
Thanks Doug! Hopefully I can soon get out a bit further than the back garden to use it 😁
@@DesGreene soon enough Des. Look forward to seeing you out there !
Great garden camp Des. No daylight getting through there to wake you up! Definitely some food for thought if I get into the whole wide camping game

Hey Des, just watched Tramp in the Hills video and now relaxing with yours. I enjoy these military gear reviews. Stay on the path! Monk

Good vid bud, look's like good quality materials does that 👍
Yes, the basha and bivi are both really tough pieces of kit. The only real down side is the weight! 😁 All the best👍
nice set up, like it !
Cheers Gav! Thanks for taking a look👍👍
Great set up Des and so much room, you looked quite snug in the bivi. Good weather and a canny kid, could not wish for better to be fair, cheers Alan
