Hi Sam. I just happened on your channel tonight when looking for another camping channel I am familiar with. I watched 3 or 4 of yours and I have to say I was impressed. I enjoyed how you took the time at the end of your video's to bring awareness to others about the forests of your homeland. I studied Wildlife and Forestry Conservation here in the states and I learned so much. I am old and disabled and getting out just to go camping is difficult and I can't go alone but I wont let that stop me. What I get from nature cannot be described and I always feel I owe something back. You are doing just that, giving back. Protecting, educating, rebuilding. Thank you for sharing your trips, Darach, and your "Forest Thoughts". Stay safe and stay diligent. God Bless.
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and leave a comment Yvonne I really appreciate that. It's exactly that for me, I guess this is my small way of trying to do my bit for the greater good 😀 I'm so glad you are still able to get out in some capacity and enjoy nature, I wish more people had the same attitude.
that hammock is awesome!!!
Thanks Brianne 😁
Another good video your in the perfect place to hammock camp that's my dream place Glen affric. Good to hear all the projects happening about the forest to keep it growing back I have a book about the ancient pines (Scots pine) that's my favourite type of forest theres something very jurrasic about them. Anyway all the best. Sam
Thanks so much for watching, appreciate that! Yes I just wish we had a lot more of this type of forest but at least things are starting to move in the right direction 😁👍
Another great set-up and fascinating stuff about Glen Affric. 👍🔥
It was a really fun night, hope to get out in the hammock again soon, maybe with an underblanket this time! Thanks for watching 😁👍
Nice one mate good video, I’ve been using dd hammocks for year love a hammock camp. Atb Wullie ✊🏻🏴
I'm definitely keen to get back out again in it! 😁👍
Enjoyed your video very much, I lived in Cannich many years ago and spent a lot of time exploring the woods practicing my bushcraft skills, I have a couple of videos of plodda falls and dog falls that I filmed some 10years ago on my channel, keep up the good work.
Thanks a lot for watching John, really appreciate it! Are you still based up this way? Cheers
Hi there, I'm now based in Caithness, a totally different landscape which I'm still exploring and hope to put up some videos soon.
Your passion shinning through mate 😎dint realise dear were such a problem to the environment
Thank you 👍 I would say deer are probably one of the biggest issues we face out in the countryside currently
Quality video mate 👌🏻 subbed and working my way through them 🤘🏻
Thanks Matt, really appreciate that, glad you are enjoying them 👍 have subbed you back!
I usually look for a tree space of 6 metres when putting my hammock setup up mate, you need to get yourself some tree huggers or 2 metre slings mate makes a big difference. Atb Wullie ✊🏻🏴
I was looking at the DD upgrade woopie slings, worth it? Cheers
@@HighlandWoodsman I don’t use them mate never have and I have a few dd hammocks I use slings for the trees and I’ve put an overhand knot every 100mm on the webbing and just use a karabiner to connect them.
I don't have a problem with hunting. But I'm not overly impressed with some of the Holier than though participants !
Impressed with your work and forward thinking. Deer populations in this country have reaching plague proportions, due mainly to the lack of natural predators, the hunting community and the introduction of non-native species, especially the Muntjac. Keep doing what you do. BUT CHANGE YOUR HAMMOCK SUSPENSION......
Good follow-up video on your first one. Do you know if managed (temporary) deployment of pigs into the forest areas would help with regeneration? They are very good at roughing up the ground which potentially will help with regeneration. I know that there is a movement in the sustainable farming sector to encourage farmers to let live stock graze under the tree canopy - also makes them happier beasts. Lastly, in Northern Ireland DAERA use Konik ponies (a hardy polish breed of ponies) to graze down undergrowth in conservation areas to good affect. That said they do not have the same deer issues as you have in Scotland. Really enjoying your content and keep it coming.
Pigs are fantastic. Where I live there is now a very large population of feral boar which are helping to create some fantastic areas of regen especially in the pinewoods although they do come with other more negative impacts especially when it comes to farmers fences. But releasing pigs in a controlled setting would also be useful. That rooting behaviour is a natural component of woodlands for sure. I have been to a reserve in Northern Ireland where they were using Koniks. I think it was RSPB, can't remember the name now as it was over 10 years ago. Cattle work well too especially Highlanders. But yes the deer would still have an impact on regen overall.
Nice one mate…. And think the dog was lying perfect hahahahaha cheers buddy….. beautiful area to hang by the way.
And you sleep good or ???
😁 we worked it out in the end! And yes actually slept better than I thought it would 😁
Really enjoying these camp videos, thanks so much for sharing and inspiring. My dog is way too much of a fidget to share a hammock with!
Thanks so much for watching Ian, really appreciate it! Yeah I was a bit apprehensive about the dog and he took a while to settle down but he did get there 😂
Amazing man!! Great work and very interesting thanks for sharing what you do!
Exciting changing the country for future generations
Interested - what is your favourite tree?
Have a good weekend
Atb 👍🏽
Many thanks as always Dave! This was a fun one!
Favourite tree would have to be Downy Birch, it's just a true North West species and so many uses for it. I also feel Birch in general is a common link across all the Northern communities around the globe. Aspen is up there too but unfortunately it's almost completely missing from our landscapes!
You too Dave, think it's set to be a chilly one!
Cheers, Sam
