I believe that the Leaf applies only a 13.0V float charge to the 12V accessory battery to keep it charged. As long as you keep it in good shape the float charge should be sufficient to keep it healthy for several years. In a typical ICE vehicle these 12V accessory batteries would normally see a 13.8V to 14.5V charge from the alternator which can help it recover from the occasional stress of a deeper discharge. The Leaf obviously does not have this arrangement. But as long the 12V battery has not been stressed then the float voltage should be enough to keep it healthy. However, if it gets overly discharged, especially during a cold winter, it may slowly die as the float voltage doesn't seem capable of helping it to recover.
Sounds like you need to charge the 12v battery. Or alternatively, you could connect another car/battery to it via jumperleads. That will give you enough juice to plug in your car and it should start charging. If you have issues, try disconnecting the 12v battery from your car, and reconnecting it, sometimes it needs a reset.
Is that Leaf a grey import from the US? Last time I checked NZ drives on the left side like Australia and UK. I thought most grey imports were right-hand drive from Japan?
@@velocity5646 LOL, yeah most of the video was mirrored, except for the bit where you showed the Dash display and the status buttons. You probably took the entire selfie video in mirrored mode.
I drove the car to where there’s no miles on the dash board I had to because I had to get home and it was late I don’t know what to do bc I tried charging at my house but it won’t charge
The dashboard turns on the stereo turns on too I just don’t know what’s wrong with it it just stays on neutral I can’t change gears does it need to be fully charged or do I need a new battery please help me
@@iyarihernandez3283 When you turn the car on, do you get the green car symbol on the dashboard? I would try disconnecting the 12v battery and then reconnect it and try and start it. Alternatively try Jumpstarting, replacing or charging the 12v battery.
Happy Birthday Will. Here is your present, a subscription.

The main issue seems to be if you leave it plugged in. That keeps a drain on the 12V, but it doesn't charge the 12v if the traction battery is 100%.
Thanks Will, very helpful.
A helpful video - Thanks!
my Leaf is not getting any blue light signal when i plug it in, and the battery is completely dead. Any tips? It's completely unusable right now.

It is a RHD import from Japan.
Not sure if part of the video is mirrored, maybe!
