Oh my God, Ruth. That talk on learning data model first before DAX is so true! A lot of people now simply think experts mean complex codes. Sometimes the answer lies in data modeling, not complex codes.
I've started learning DAX about 3 weeks ago and I watched this video as one of my first videos trying to figure out where to start. All I can say is Ruth is spot on here, I followed her learning patch and Oh Boy! 3 Weeks later and I'm cooking with gas when it comes to DAX now. MOST TIP - Model your data in a star/snowflake schema, do not use the One table analytic approach where you flatten out all your data into one table (for quick and small data analysis, sure) but for proper enterprise reports and dashboards: Star Schema or Snowflake if you are working with multiple fact tables then go for a galaxy schema, which basically are multiple star schemes stitched together via related dimensions) from there your advanced DAX measures become easier to write by at least a factor of 10. Let the model help you. Easy Peasy, Bright and Cheesy
Absulutely agree with Sandip. 2nd edition is also written by Avi Sigh. For modelling I recommend the book : analyzing data with Microsoft power bi and powerpivot for Excel. (Ferrari and Russo). Thanks Ruth for the filtering option on your site.
Saludos
Hi Ruth, Another fab video, thank you. Would you be creating a youtube playlist based on the recommended learning order? As always thanks for the content Mathew
Ruth, it would be great to add more colums to filter on: type of returned value, keywords, related functions... I mean anything which may help to find the function we need.
Ah! Got you! Related functions is already available (at the bottom of the definition) and keywords can be added. I need help maintaining all the content I produce! 😵 /Rutg
You are right. It would be awful to maintain. Forget the idea. Actualy, there is too much information on net about DAX and too little in Microsoft reference. When we know the function we need it s ok. But when we look for a function, it takes so long time. There are even different ways to do the same things but some are not recommended. Not easy. But thank you again for your work which is really helpfull!
Magnificent presentation - might be an idea to add a playlist category 'How to learn DAX for beginners' that way the viewer can choose to view your videos for learning DAX in an order you prescribe. Have a fabulous weekend.
Saludos
Ayyyy que desastre!!! Mi español tecnico es malísimo. A ver si me enseñáis; Cargar datos es importar datos? E ingresar datos en power query es importar datos en power query? A ver si así aprendo... Buen fin de semana a los dos! /Ruth
Read Rob Colie's book Power Pivot & Power BI. He has mentioned a learning curve for DAX learners and chapters are organised accordingly. A must read for beginners. (And a must re-read for experts)

The better your model, the easier your DAX!
@@CurbalEN thanks, Ruth. I'm gonna make this my chant moving forward.
Thank you very much for sharing this video. I just wanted this VIDEO and now have got the detail how to learn DAX.
Fab!
Thank you that you talk about beginners . You also motivate me continue to learn power bi.
Excellent! Keep at it, it is definitely worth it!!
Happy Friday!

Modelling and ETL are key for making DAX easy and you understood that in 3 weeks?
You are going to shine at this, well done!!

As always thanks for the content
Mathew
Yes, but it will take a while, Time is always running out for me!
/Ruth
;-) thanks, it would be amazing
Thank you Ruth for the great video!
If you modify you glossary, why not to put it in a table that we can query ? 😊
Enjoy your weekend !
Mmmm not sure what you mean? You know you can search right?
Let me know and I see what I can do :)

Thanks 🤗

I wish I had seen this video before I started to study the subject. I did the opposite way of much of what was said and I know how it was difficult.
I feel your pain, my road was probably similar... hopefully it will help new people!
Have a great weekend!
/Ruth
Your videos are the best!!
Thaaaank you !! :)

A que te refieres con cargas? Mi español...

Para mí cargar es load, o sea el proceso de refresh, e ingresar es tipear...
Ah vale, pero tipear es el que? Como se dice en inglés?

So nice of you Ruth. You are doing a great job. Waiting for next part of your CALCULATETABLE video.
Also for some beginners I think will be useful yo know that in US and EU functions have different way with ; and , .
True! Thanks for the reminder!
