It was a beautiful day, the sun beat down I got a notification, Doug posted another lesson Tunes went by, me and my PRS were singing little Runaway I was flyin’ Yeah, runnin’ down a dream! So stoked to learn this solo. Thanks for breaking it down into 7 parts. Will make it so much easier to learn.
Here I am in the middle of Alaska pouring rain my phone starts beeping my favorite guitar Guru shows up Doing a classic Tom Petty song I'm standing in the rain I'm going I can't wait to get home to practice this song oh I'm so happy excited being associated learning from the best guitar teacher on the internet doing all the classic songs that I love so dear thank you do you rock I know why I'm subscribed to this channel it's the best even if it's pouring down rain down rain
An epic song - a Tom Petty rock classic. The intro riff always reminded me of Tony Iommi /Sabbath style riff. Mike Campbell was an animal on this! The song structure is quite simple BUT it is all about attitude. Good lesson. Congrats on the 100k subscribers - keep up the good work.
Great lesson for this epic solo. Really enjoy watching your video lessons, even for songs I already know how to play because a) you cover all the little details I'm too lazy to figure out myself, and b) I just really enjoy and appreciate your presentation and you obvious love and enthusiasm for the songs and the guitar playing, which I share. First proper band I was ever in (we actually had a bass player and microphones and a PA and sang) way back in high school, we played the song "Restless" from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers "You're Gonna Get It" album. I brought it in and taught the other guitar player the parts and and everybody the vocal harmonies. So basically Petty has been there from ground zero in my life as a musician.
Great lesson! I'm glad you reinforced the ringing E's and B's with the rhythm part. I didn't notice this until I heard the live Filmore version that came out last year. The rhythm part is really dry on 3rds. Power all the way.
Greetings from Australia. I am a new subscriber. Thank you for the fantastic presentation. I enjoyed my first class very much. I am a beginning bassist, self taught with no other musicians to jam with. I have 2 questions, 1. Which guitar do I follow and 2. Why do i hear the chorus in the solo? Please help. Keep Roken.
Welcome! Not sure i understand what your question about following a guitar means. And not sure about chorus in the solo. I don't think he used a chorus effect
Every time my local radio station plays a Petty song, they always call him by his full name, Thomas Earl Petty. Maybe instead of playing Tom, they should just play your recreation of this song, I already know no one would suspect a thing 😂
YES!! Mike Campbell is criminally underrated
By who ?
Not by anyone I know 😊
I wouldn't say underrated, but sometimes under the radar. But that's the case for most "song first" lead guitarists, of which he's one of the best.
Sorry but I must agree with the other repliers. He’s just the bees knees.

Mike Campbell is a unison bend monster. Every guitarist has that in their toolbox, but he appears to have specialized in that technique.

I have a break between classes. This might be a good one to start off with! Awesome! Time to get back into it.
12 foot your on fire.I love that tune. Great playing.
Thank you Doug, for another fantastic guitar lesson. I really appreciate the time and effort you put in to them. Ten Years Gone?
Good lesson. I've been playing this one for decades live and have recorded it also
Great lesson! Your song choices are killer!
Great song. Roughly learned it several times and forgot it again. Time to learn it properly from the maestro.
Mike Campbell my guitar hero
What a brilliant lesson for such a cool song, I love it 👌
I wondered what is like to play this piece! Now I KNOW!!! Very Good Tutorial!!!

One of my favorites! 👏👏👏
Great lesson…Cheers Bob 😊
Excellent choice! Thx for this.
Greatest guitar channel ever
Thank you!
Thanks so much for doing this song - brilliant!
Nice to see that 100k.200k will b faster.
Top Shelf 12 Ft, I've been watching a lot of Mike's Dirty Knobs group lately. Miss Tom ♪♫♪♫♪♫
Incredible tones and playing! I’ve heard that Campbell used his Rickenbacker 350 for the intro riff and Petty his Firebird for the solo?
Thanks! I'll try to find the interview but campbell talked about using a Les Paul Jr for his parts.
It's here, but he calls out using it for the solo, doesn't call out the riff ruclips.net/video/tHVf4C2x_3g/видео.htmlsi=OSaNaCXc73rT40Ve
@@12footchain Wow! I've been mulling over what it was for a week now. Amazing
I was hoping for the acoustic guitar part as well but a great lesson.
@@hawleybrowder4083 ha, well, I figured that was kind of obvious, big cowboy E and A chords during chorus. I think that's it. Start with upstroke.
Great
Awesome
What a fantastic video have a wonderful weekend doug also i cut my wrist when my family was sleeping ❤😊
I used to jamb along with this one, never played the solo till now !
I bet that opened some doors for you 😏

Sounds sweet.😉🎶✨. . .
Awesome Special; I have a ‘68 with the slimmer neck is this a wider neck model?
Skinnier nut. Some really don't like that, but I'm fine with it. I have a 67 es335 with the same nut width, and it's great
@@12footchain Hey, that didn’t stop Pete Townshend, did it? 😉
Mike’s has the wider neck and a fixed broken headstock….
I'm so happy woohoo
Never enough of the Captain and his, Co pilot
Wow imagine mike Campbell jamming with Elliot Easton .
