Challenges to the Patient-Surgeon Relationship

This was session 2 of 4 in the 2023 Harvard Surgical Ethics Conference. There are various types of patient-surgeon relationships that have been described, some more desirable than others. In this session we discussed how the lack of a diverse workforce can impact the patient-surgeon relationship and healthcare outcomes, explored the limits of healthcare providers duty-to-care, and discussed the impact of the Dobbs decision on the patient-physician relationship.
