I have been to two concerts when Oleta came to Detroit. She never robs her audience. Her voice is so rich, so believable. If I was in a relationship that was on the skids. Just hearing her sing "When love comes to the rescue" would make me not only reconsider but remember all the things love has brought and taught me. Thanks Oleta for being you. True that Ismail. She and Lalah Hathaway have similar tone kind of voices and don't get the kind of recognition that the higher pitched female singers do. Maybe with more people like you and I they will receive more accolades they so truly deserve.

@@surubaid1 yes, both Oleta and Lalah are fantastic artist, however, they do not have similar tone. Well not to me. Lalah has a deep tone like Toni and Anita, but Oleta can hit those high notes as you can tell in this song we are commenting on.

Great performance. I was half expecting her to go into vocal acrobatics like so many singers of today do. But she kept to the melody yet with soulful flourishes. Very nice indeed. I remember her from 1991's Get Here (If You Can).

I love Oleta and especially this song. Used to listen to this all the time when my dad was seriously ill and was praying he would make it. Unfortunately he didn't. And this song and others from Oleta were too painful to listen to for years, they were sort of banned. Now more than 15 years are gone and I'm all in tears when I hear this... A soul touching song and performance

I have always had a crush on her. She is so underrated. Magnificent talent.
She has that incredible and not very common distinction as a Vocalist that the INSTANT you hear the first lyrics being sung you KNOW that it's Her and not anyone else. Her passionate rendition of "Get Here" written by Brenda Russell became an anthem for US Troops that went off to serve during the first Gulf War and their Families here at home. Her 1997 single "Beams Of Heaven" is such a visceral, heartfelt performance; someone else sang it at a dear friend of mine's funeral recently, and every time I hear Oleta'a version it brings me right back to that day, with tears I might add ;-(

Joanne JoMa I discovered Oleta many years ago, listening to the Tears for Fears album called "The Seeds Of Love". On the song "Woman In Chains" she was singing with Roland Orzabal. I immediately mentioned the extended range and the very special tone of her voice...
Since then, I still listen to her with great pleasure as she is a very good pianist too ! ;)

I had to make an Oleta playlist, i was in foodmax and heard her song playing and had to do this playlist b/c i hav her cd in Ga, now i'm in Cali my hometown (Jesus) miss atl, but anyway, Oleta's voice is like the comfort of the spirit, that's deep, It's unexplainable, I need to drink that coffe if that'll make my voice this warm. I found this video, I have never seen her perform live. Here in Oz we never had huge coverage of R&B/Soul artists when I grew up, we kinda had to discover them for ourselves... What would we do without RUclips, finally after having bought Oleta's CDs all that time ago I get to see her sing one of my favorite songs...
