I love that this guy shows the good the bad and the ugly You can normally type in how to grow a pumpkin patch And people normally say Plant a seed Get good soil And walla a nice pumpkin patch...wrong !!!! It's a lot more than that and this guy shows it
Awesome video sir! My son is 9 and buried an entire pumpkin last fall, as his own little experiment. It is actually thriving and he was researching how to make it the best possible! Your video was so educational to him and helpful! Thank you!
The pic you had of squash vine borer was actually a pic of a squash bug which pierces fruit and leaves scars. Squash vine borer is a colorful black and orange moth that looks kind of wasp like.
Love 5:07 Lucas! Entertaining video as always. Really enjoy following your progress! Wish I could see it in real life! I also learned that the white colouration on the pumpkin leaves isn’t powdery mildew like I thought it was. Great info!
I know organically grown is favored by many. But the grass/weeds help harbor insects. Either spray or pull to help you here. Also add some trap plants such as Hubbard squash to attract insects away from your main patch. Keep those sprayed as well
Omg lucas you have your own pumpkin patch now. I remember when you were growing pumpkin in fron of your garden but your mom wont allow you to do it next time. So proud
The leaves allow the solution to rundown their stems toward the roots. There aren't specialized absorptive apparatus by plants leaves. I loclve this video. Quick. I could've followed. Thanks.
Surprisingly leaves do actually absorb nutrients, although there is some debate about how this exactly occurs. Check out this article: ipm.missouri.edu/MPG/2019/4/foliarFeeding/
hi i want to grow some calabaza pumpkin but the space i have is limited is it possible to grow the vine and cut it when it passes over 12ft before it starts flowering and remove the secondary vine and grow it with just the main vine, I'm from zone 13 I'm not worrying about the season just space issues
Hi Shane. You can definitely cut the plant back in a pinch. Typically I don’t recommend this though because more leaves will be beneficial to growth. Give it a shot!
Hello, what varieties do you recommend? My soil has a good amount of clay, dou you think its an issue? Do you use fertilizer? What spraying do you recommend?
Haha yeah I realize I could've got more rows in but this was my first time growing on a larger scale and I just followed the spacing instructions in the seed catalogue.
Hello‚ I'm looking for a pumpkin for Halloween but make sure it's a good size. Do you think that the sugar pie pumpkin meets that characteristic? what variety is the one you used beforehand thank you very much for your answer
Pie pumpkins aren't the best for Jack-O-Lanterns... they are too small. Just check the description and see if it mentions "large" or "jack-o-lantern". Not sure which one you are referring to...?
is it possible to have a male pumpkin plant? I have a ton of flowers on my Jarrahdale pumpkin vine but no fruit. I would love any suggestions or advice on what to do as i am running out of time to get some fruit to grow, my community garden closes oct 15. Thanks
Male flowers have long stems behind them, whereas the female flowers have an unfertilized fruit behind them. When pollen is transferred from the male flower to female flower successfully, the fruit will grow and develop. Is there something in particular you don't understand?
Sorry to hear of your troubles again.(i watched you plant) Need better soil. Healther, non-disease plants survive better! Sorry to hear you went non organic pesticide. There are plenty of organics that work. How far down wind is the rest of your garden, tomatoes and peppers? You can't wait untill the pests are so out of control. Especially since you had knowledge of the Beatles in the area. Before you start such an adventure, especially if it is a dream, you need to plan. Plan not what and where only, but what ifs, as well. Plenty of research and video out there.Look, ask before you start. I row cover till flowers, watch daily, pick and spray.
Have you ever grown pumpkins? If so, were they a success and what would you do differently if you were to grow them again?
funny part to that is i threw mine in the big burn pit last year and they just blew up growing this year
I love growing pumpkins! My favorite thing to grow. Trying Red Hot Chili Peppers for the first time in my garden this year.
i've grown an atlantic giant infront of my yard it was 94 pounds sadly it rotted before halloween.
Hy
Threw out a hundred or so seeds just to see what happened.
At least 90% successfully sprouted.
I have a crazy jungle of pumpkin leaves and vines 😂
I love that this guy shows the good the bad and the ugly

I plantea pumpkins every year , it make me feel happy , I enjoy to look it grow up .

Good tips Edward, thanks. I have heard of trap crops.
@@lucasgrowsbestyt you should have planted them...... you sprayed all the bees.
Let the bee do the work. That's what they were made for :D
I will love to grow pumpkins. I just love how quickly the grow and how they look.
Same!

Looking great! Hope the DE does the trick for you. Always happy to see a Lucas vid in the notifications!
@siege919, whap would be your recommendation in place of the deadly spray?
what fertilizer did you spray ? your plants are so healthy. ...sally from the phil.
I’m also growing blanco pumpkins, but they got a late start so I’m hoping that they make it in time
How did they turn out for you? They did pretty well for me, check out my pumpkin harvest: ruclips.net/video/y2UHxmdDHwE/видео.html
would straw between the rows take care of the weeds and place a blanket for the pumpkins to lay on
Yeah, that would probably have worked well!
Hello.
How are you?
Does the Pumpkin (orange ball) plant continue after summer?
If not, how would I keep it continue for time after summer?
Thank you!
How exciting!!!!! I’ve always wanted to grow pumpkins but just no space to do it at our house.
How do you water them

Pumpkin patch is looking good! Love the flash back to the good old days at the beginning of the video!
The grass will grow long again. The pumpkin will grow through it.
Does this need some sort of action or will it be ok? Thick hay?
Hello, what varieties do you recommend? My soil has a good amount of clay, dou you think its an issue? Do you use fertilizer? What spraying do you recommend?
Good luck with your awesome pumpkin patch; it looks great!!!! For the pests, Jack’s Dead Bug works great on pumpkins, and it’s OMRI
Great video and very creative
I’m so proud of you
Yes,but why do madw long space between plants? Beautiful farm though, your answer is very important to me.
Haha yeah I realize I could've got more rows in but this was my first time growing on a larger scale and I just followed the spacing instructions in the seed catalogue.
Can I ask what brand of 3-18-18 fertilizer you purchased for your pumpkins?
I don’t remember the brand but it was just a bulk generic bag from TSC (now Peaveymart).
Planning on growing pumpkins my first time this year. Any tips?
I’m no one special but I feel like some companion planting and a bit of agroforestry would be golden for what you did here
I don’t know about other people, but I’m not interested in how you started your pumpkins. I would like to know how they finished.🤷♀️
Great videos and job. Are you going to grow fruits.
When using chemicals. Long coverage clothing is best. Best of luck 👨🌾
Yeah, I've made a lot of mistakes in the garden bwahahaha! 😅

Matador and what else did you use????
Nothing! :)
I just noticed that at 2:38 your hops are synced with the music! Hahahaha
Did you amend the soil before you planted ?
No hahaha!

It's possible, I don't know. Normally pumpkins plants have both male and female flowers, with a higher ratio of males to females.
fire video
What about the bees? How does the chemical spray effect the bees? And people wonder why bees are disappearing!
The pollination process with male & female always confuses me
Male flowers have long stems behind them, whereas the female flowers have an unfertilized fruit behind them. When pollen is transferred from the male flower to female flower successfully, the fruit will grow and develop. Is there something in particular you don't understand?
Thanks for the video. I hope you tell your buyers not to eat the pumpkin sprayed with matador.
Those eggs were squash bug eggs, not cucumber beetle eggs.
