I'm a child of 1972 and I had that toy. Besides the missing tether that plugs into the back of the cargo bay, the little scout ship also slides along the track on top of the clamshell bay doors. It kinda rides piggy back on top and locks the doors. This Alpha probe, Space 1999 Eagle, and Starbird were my favorite toys until StarWars stuff came along...

I had this toy when I was little. One of my faves :) Two silly sidenotes... The tether also plugged into the hole right behind the cargo bay doors and also, the little pod would slide on top of the bay doors, on the little track thing. So cool to see this, I had forgotten about this toy :)

TechNein TX there is actually 3 tethers and 3 holes, one on the recon ship, one behind the doors and one inside the shuttle on the orange part. I got one today at a yard sale with all 3 tethers but missing the recon, I was wondering where the 3rd one went until now

I had this as a kid. Exactly the same except I don't remember the colour of the astronauts hair. I blame the middle button for my love of Jazz.

I had this when I was 8! Thanks for the memories, however I did not realize you could of taken off the thrust engines and put them on the little shuttle..........darn it!
