St. Martin is famous in the Caribbean for getting your boat spruced up and a place to go for much needed repairs. So we set off from Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands and sail to St Martin/Sint Maarten where Cheeky Monkey gets some much needed TLC. We need to get her ready for our next BIG adventure. .
We're also putting together an awesome crew for our next leg, aka Season Two - the Pacific Adventure!! We put out a call for sailing crew on Tasha's 'Turf to Surf' blog (www.turftosurf.com) and get an overwhelming response of applicants (over 130!). We narrow it done to three people to join us to sail across the Pacific and welcome Bruna, a Brazilian filmmaker, on board to sail with us to Panama.
Happy sailing everyone!
Tasha, Ryan, & The Cheeky Monkey Crew

You know one would think that all sailing stories are pretty much the same. I watch many producers of sailing videos here on You Tube and danged if they aren't all completely different! Even when I see them hitting the same spots on the planet, the story is always different. I love that. And you guys are now once again proving my point with a whole different way of doing it. I love your videos and am looking forward to more.
I could not agree more! Well said...
Love the title.
Great that you guys are auditioning for others to sail! We really need to introduce others to this wonderful life!
Congrats with 20 000 followers!! I absolutely love your material, and yay for 6 episodes per week! Much love from Norway!
always enjoy your videos and enjoyed seeing more of Kristi, what a cutie and a talented & helpful crew member. will be following your crossing, fair winds & following seas
Thanks again sharing, I subscribe to many RUclips channels, but very few do I get excited when a new one is posted. can't wait fur the next one!
+John Fox thanks John!!!
Nice one! Enjoyed the Ryan/Christy point-of-view and style.
Great video guys!! It's been my dream to sail the Pacific!! Keep up the great work as always!
Great content. I could not believe how much St Martin/Maarten has changed since 2003 when I left.
Great story! The adventure continues!!
I just found you all tonight ; and I did subscribe to you the channel. but want to take min to thank you for making my life better.
John The Limo Driver in Kansas city.

Another great video guys wish I was there!
another cruise destination for me. thanks for your videos
Lol. . super confusing... we were like.. we've seen Bruna before.. but then we realized it was from Monday never from when they visited you :)
If you guys a interested in an over weight middle age salty old pirate with no sense of direction I am all yours lol ! Just kidding I am disabled and live vicariously through your videos cheers !
Haha yes Ryan,Teetotaller is apparently a strictly British term!?. We're from RSA, and our neighbors here in Virginia, USA give us the same blank stare you got from Kristie when we mention it :)
+Adippen Who knew!!? I've got to educate this bunch ;) Ryan
Hi guys love your videos you are such a happy bunch of lovely people !!
Love it! Definitely seems to be an amazing trip
good stuff. love from England.
I'm binge watching to catch up. I sure hope you found a way to keep Bruna on board beyond Panama. She's a lovely young lady.
so exciting!!!! Your all so talented and entertaining :)
+Judy Craig thanks Judy!
Omg, I was so confuse coz I saw Bruna in Monday Never videos then I realized that you guys publish your videos at later time....:-)
+Arce Ortiz :) Bruna's video about Anguilla is out next week!
Kristi great job on the vid!
Tea total must be a UK term only. The look on her face when Ryan said it lol
Now you will have some more comonwealth countries on board Ryan, you need to have a game of cricket on the front deck when you guys hit the doldrums. Fielders out wide waiting for the catch. Just a thought.
+Ben From N.Z outstanding idea!! We'll teach these Americans a new sport ;)
as always a great video. thanks
love you guys!
Good personal hygiene! Hahaha It had to be said. Good one.
Great job Kristi and welcome aboard Bruna! You guys keep turning out such great videos... keep it up! Did the ice maker work out?
+Hamptons Flying haha. No :(
Beautiful boat
What did you guys need to do at Immigration to get Bruna through? We're going to face the same problem with crew flying into a country and then leaving said country by sailing with us.
And great approach to crew selection, looks like you've got a great new crew for the Pacific!
When are you guys looking for new crew, would like to join you guys, looks amazing!!
+Sailing Tranquilo We had to produce a marine crew letter (homemade) and all was good. If you want a copy PM me through Chase the Story FB and I'll send you a copy. We've used it a few times and it works a charm :) Ryan
+Cronulla Surf we've a full boat for this next part of the adventure, but may be looking for cool people to join in the future!
+Chase the Story Sailing Thanks Ryan, just sent message on your Facebook! Much appreciated!! And your 5 Lessons in Outfitting a Boat on your webpage should be required reading for anyone considering buying a new yacht! SV Mazu sent it to us and we're already asking our dealers to specify what the factory is installing vs commissioning yard! You guys are gems!
On behalf of the Dutch Kingdom i like to apologise for the very strickt visa and immigration laws we have even in our Caribbean part of the Kingdom Miss Bruna, hope you enjoyed your stay though 👍😆.
haha It's alright, it's part of the adventure! :)
I really got the wrong end of the stick when I read the title, but a great vid nonetheless ;-)
As usual excellent episode
+Ariel N (A) thank you!!
How did y'all get started doing this? I guess the big question is, where did you get the money to buy your boat etc.? I think many people would like to do what y'all are doing, at least from a lifestyle standpoint, but where does the money come from?!
I think with such a small repair required for your sail you should have taken the opportunity to learn to do it yourself. When you're out in the middle of the Pacific there isn't going to be a lot of people you can run to to do simple repairs.
So Meg's not coming back? :(
Especially "Lazy Gecko"" ...
awesome there mate
What are the odds that you come across Adastra in person in video #26 after I mentioned that one-off yacht in my video #25 comment? I'm going with "better than even". One or both of us should buy a lottery ticket. I even said in my comment that it was "Batman-worthy". It's a crazy looking yacht, that's for sure.
Loved seeing you guys hanging with "Never Monday". The wife and I are heading to St. Vincent to start our first sailing adventure and get our licenses in February. So excited to start our own adventure. Any other schools you guys would recommend to have a week adventure and be certified by the end?
+Chris W Hi Chris! Your sailing adventure sounds fun!! Who wouldnt want to sail in the Caribbean?? We don't know much about sailing schools out there, but I'm sure most islands have at least one option. Good luck and happy sailing!
+Chase the Story Sailing ok thanks guys. We have a school in mind, but it was just one we looked up so hearing a recommendation would have made us feel a bit better. Almost done raising kids so we feel this is a good way to move into the next part of our lives together. Happy sailing to you too.
Gostaria de saber se existe alguma programação de vir passar pelo Brasil. Many thanks! Bons ventos!
Beijo pra Bruna!
I hope you guys got blown at ma ho beach cuz i did and it was awesome!
can't leave comments on your new update!!!! good luck from England.
+Andrew Felcey thanks Andrew :)
did u bring the catalina 34 from england, do u like the Canon 70d
nice videos , luv st martin
+Edward Werthner We brought out Catalina - Hideaway - from New York to the Caribbean. Catalina's are great boats but not really designed for ocean crossings. The new owners have new in St Martin still and she'll probably be up and down the island chain for years to come, still named Hideaway :)
Thx - I'm heading to SXM in the fall on my 03 34 Mark ll- I bet the catamaran is the way to go to explore the world good videos and thx for the response
wholley MOLEY!
great done Cpt. English…...
taking Applications.. Ha Ha Ha.. Hell I Want to go Buy a Boat.!!! Ryan got this figured out.. Surrounded by Beautiful woman.. Grrrrr!!!!
Is the ice maker now officially fixed? If it is I believe you will now have more applications for new crew members as a working ice maker is an essential item on a sailboat. Of course I have only been on two sailboats with ice makers..Kristi made the right choice when asked teetotaler or alcoholic as you never know why they don't drink( prevents scurvy, at least that is a story I have heard all my life.).
To prevent a problem like Bruna's traveling into another country if you get a refundable round trip ticket they will let you in without a problem and then get a refund on the return portion and then you can go on your merry way. They just want to make sure you won't be over staying in that country. I used that trick in Europe many times before the EU came about.
+Uncle Muir thanks for the advice re return flight. Alas the Icemaker still doesn't...make ice. :(
Did I not see another ice-maker being installed? A stupid question but are they sure that water is getting to the ice-maker? They can put a man on the Moon but can't put an ice-maker that works on your boat. I have a friend that goes to church regularly, I will ask him to light a candle for your ice-maker.
+Uncle Muir thanks. The candle could make all the difference :) alas, the replacement one neither worked nor fit the hole. So we're back to our original one. That still doesn't make ice.
Ae Bruna!!! MAntem contato em pouco tempo eu compro meu catamaran e seras bem vinda a jornada. Saindo da nova zelandia para o mundo.
I have followed you guys... You write pretty well ... But you have not addressed my premise ... The scanty dress and the aquatic begging? what is that all about? SV DELOS seems to have it covered pretty well ...
+Milo Miller Sorry mate. We can't answer for them. Delos seem like wonderful people and I'd LOVE to meet up with them one day!!
I think you will ... Be real careful, I will keep a watch on you guys ... be safe, and keep the tell-tales straight.
What's a marine letter?
+S/Y Idefix I might have used the correct phrase - but it's a letter from a skipper to crew to help them through immigration.
@Chace the Story Sailing...hey ryan why u dont go south and cross cape horn???.....belive me,will be way better than panama,i did and u will never forget the trip around south america,,of course it is more time and miles, but u will never forget, the only bad in my trip was in punta arenas,we have to wait 2 weeks cuz heavy winds of 80 mph and is normal down south...u will love to sail with at least 2k penguins at u side in cold waters....
Simple answer. Get Meg back ASAP.
I'm retired from the video business ... 40 years, 5 C.I.N.E. GOLDEN EAGLES AND I can't count how many minor others ....
Regarding the Batman/spaceship boat Google Earthrace. If you are at all environmentally aware I think you'll find this one interesting.
Earthrace is a few hundred meters down on the bottom in the arctic. The yacht here is 42m Adastra by a diffrent designer.
lowtech81 I know Pete Bethune had a replacement for Earthrace/Ady Gil built, and I thought it was named Earthrace II, but I'm not sure about the name. It has essentially the same look as its sunken predecessor, but is bigger, and looks enough like this one that it had me going. Bethune had his own show called the Operatives in which he, and his crew engage in wildlife, and environmental preservation with the new boat as their base of operations.
Tell me Ryan, how do you survive surrounded by so many beautiful women? Must be a hard life! /s
You're kidding, right? Nobody on this boat is easy to look at but they entertain...
John Best That's rude. They are lovely women inside and out.
Something bothers me about this whole group of boaters. Why, when they decide to do what they are doing, and spend thousands of dollars for their boats ... do they become "aquatic beggars"? Do they think that people who watch what they are doing owe them something?! Huh, go figure ... guess I'm a real rookie. The deal seems to be as risqué as possible, with your wife or girlfriend ... offer exclusive, private, suggestive video, and then beg for money. Huh!?
+Milo Miller Milo,
First of all, I should say that I can’t speak for any of the other ‘boaters’ that you are referring to. I can only speak for us. For as long as there have been people traveling, there have been people writing books about it which they sell. Things have definitely changed over the years and RUclips is a wonderful new medium for telling stories about travel and sailing. We really have two projects on the go - one is sailing around the world and the other is making videos about it for people to enjoy. We definitely don’t need to do the second to achieve the first. But we felt that people would really enjoy following along and being part of our adventure. And the wonderful feedback we’ve had from people has shown that it’s been worth all the effort! Making videos takes a lot of money - for cameras, computers, editing software, hard drives and internet access. We’re really pushing to up our game here in ‘Season Two’ of our adventures, which will hopefully mean better videos and more frequent uploads. We’ve also opened up our home (aka Cheeky Monkey) to a crew of great folk who will help us in that endeavor and enjoy this adventure with us. We really don’t think that anyone owes us anything now, or ever. It’s not the way we live our lives. We don’t plan now or in the future to make our videos ‘private’ - our videos will always be free to watch for you and everyone else who is interested in our adventure. There are many ways that we feel people contribute to our trip - through watching our videos, commenting, giving us a thumbs up, emailing us with thanks, inviting us into their lives when we visit their countries and buying us a beer and people checking out our Patreon page and contributing to the video-making efforts. We appreciate all of them and they make it worth the effort, time and expense.
