I'd like to see that same towel test but with ground in dirt from wiping off a dirty floor and also grass stain on denim.

@HacksbyDad I hope you do get 20000. Great test. One thing I always have problems is cleaning up a dirty floor that might have a spill. I have to really put pressure down on the towel. My blue jeans and white tshirts have issues with ground in dirt too and also with grass. Even oil too. I think tide might be one of the best laundry detergents out there. Sometimes l use spray carpet cleaner that's not in a can as a spot cleaner from dollar store.

So you did a dirt test for level 3 and level 5. I bet that if you put NO SOAP in there, it would come out just as clean...

A couple of years ago--after decades of guessing--I saw a RUclips video that showed the Lines of small, medium & large for detergent...here is the Big shock---the fill lines are on the Inside of the cap. I cut back by 50% & still do!...saving lots of $$$ !!

That little smudge would have come out simply by soaking the cloth in a cup of water overnight.

true but then this should be common sense for most people and instructions on packaging says that amount of detergent depends how soiled the clothes are and/or heavier fabrics. Plenty detergent than needed is bad in many ways.

Me too. They just want you to buy more detergent. Same as the shampoo companies including the words “rinse and repeat” in the instructions.

I want a follow up video, with a variety of substances, ideally left to dry for a couple of weeks, including a smudge of dirty engine oil and white shirt collars and cuffs. (Only 17.5k views to go!)
In the UK there are 2 doses stated depending where you live - more for hard water areas.
I always use less than stated though, and it always comes out fine. If there's a definite grease mark I just rub in a drop of neat liquid and leave it overnight or a few hours before washing. Little blood stains, just add spit and blot with paper towel before washing. (Contrary to popular myth, the spit doesn't have to belong to the injured party)

I think water only, combined with the agitation of the machine, would have removed the dirt just as well.
Detergent contains enzymes, which are designed to break down the chemicals that form stains like blood, grass, chocolate, wine, oil, grease.
But there is no doubt that manufacturers are recommending way more detergent than necessary. I wonder why? 😛

Mud stains that have dried are some of the toughest to get out.
It’s no secret that companies have exaggerated the amount of chemical needed to do the job. I can remember there was a character actor, in the late 60s, who did Comet sink & tub scrub commercials, & she even, said, on national tv ,that you don’t need anywhere near the amount they show her using. It’s just a way to keep ppl purchasing more.

Your pinch of dirt test is really a joke. First of all, when you get dirty dirt gets grounded into the fabric it's not just superficially pushed on there. I suggest you take some white pants and shirt and go do some real work in them get them really dirty muddy dirty nasty then wash them. I find this really ridiculous video because no effort was put into making the laundry dirty to see if it would be clean
