It's worth noting that if you are going to use the PMDG pushback via the FMC, the Hydrolic pumps must be turned on prior to pushback, other wise the tug can't turn the plane.
Feeling proud of myself for learning to fly 747, 737 and 787 in a little over a week, much thanks to you and 737NG Driver for extremely beginner friendly videos. All that really remains is getting better at manual landing at the end of the flight which I'm still very bad at. No matter what I always overshoot the runway by quite a lot. Any tips?
To be honest, that's the fun of the big study-level jets - there will always be something new to learn - either about the way to operate them, or IFR / precision procedures.
Just getting back to airliner flying after many years of flying turbo props. Checked out many 737 tutorial videos and this one is the hands down winner. Thanks so much!
One of the most informative videos you’ve posted. I thought I was pretty competent but there was a lot I apparently didn’t know like level changes as opposed to V nav. Tuning the radio to get glide slope was another. Thanks for that👍
Normally on takeoff you wouldnt manually set takeoff thrust, you can do it, and if you do you shouldn't just advance to max but follow the TO N1 bugs on the engine display, in normal operations you simply push the TOGA button and let the autothrottle do it for you and manage takeoff and climb thrust, and you don't really disengage it until you're on final before landing if you're landing manually. Obviously on autoland you simply let it do everything, but less fun in that. :)
Hi Jonathan thanks for informative video. one tip, on the arrivals page when selecting ILS 18, you can also select Transition BAPTO, make that active and it will clean up one of your discontinuities after BAPTO in the legs page.. thanks for your tip on the bank angle
Yep - as I've commented elsewhere - I didn't want to get TOO far into it - so didn't touch on transitions. It would have made the video even longer, and more involved. I also didn't programme wind into the FMC.
great vid! with the lack of consistency between all the different airport plates, one would assume they could make them so much more unified and a much more standardised format
Thanks for the video, it's a very good all-in-one guide how to fly SID and STARS with PMDG 737. Also nice landing by hand! You probably should have put the autobrakes to at least 1 instead of RTO but it's just a simulator so nobody from the company is going to come yell at you for that.
Hahahaha- I knew somebody was going to mention it :) To be honest, on a long runway in good weather I don't see the point in it - but as you say - company rules in the real world probably mandate procedures :)
I flew this A LOT back in FSX .. like 8 years ago! I just got MSFS2020 and the new PMDG NG but had forgotten everything, this tutorial brought me right back up to speed, I was like ‘ohh yeah’ every step of the way. I really appreciate you doing this. Thanks! 👍 P.S. Does this not have GPWS like on the FSX version?
I don't know if you are aware that on approach if there is a (T) shown, you have a submenu and you can pick a transition on your ILS approach. I like to do that first before I pick a STAR. You could have connected your STAR using BAPTO transition which would have been a better flight plan. No discontinuity would have occurred. Excellent video though and you fly the airlines so well. Another thing; I can only get the distance to show on a flight plan but your map shows distance and heading. How do you do that? I can't figure that out.
Why didn’t you use APP mode? Was it intentional? Also what is the purpose of VORLOC? Does VNAV automatically start descent when we are at the TOD?? Often I see that Navmap and Navigraph differ in SID, STAR and approach? Is it designed in that way?? Pls explain
This is actually instructive to me even though I don’t fly airliners. I’ve not tried little nav map yet. The few times I’ve used an actual flight plan and GPS and such, I just picked the departures/arrivals/approaches from the world map, and they seemed to work fine. What’s the advantage to using little nav map and entering the plan manually instead? I noticed you didn’t seem to have ATC going? How do you disable that? I find the MSFS ATC less than useful, often directing me to do things that look nothing like what’s on my flight plan (often insane like flying higher than my airplane can fly, or diving into a hillside), and griping when I follow the plan instead of committing suicide. I’d love to be able to turn that off.
If you don't use the flight plan in the world map, the in-game ATC likely won't be operating (because no plan has been filed). Also, the radio in the study-level jets is less likely to be tuned to ground at start-up.
It can also be disabled in the settings. Somewhere in there, I'm sorry I may not know exactly where but you can disable ATC. I did that for myself long ago.
Thank you for a very informative, well paced and well delivered instruction video - very much appreciated. One question : I can't adjust the elevator trim wheel to the take-off setting as calculated in the FMC - it just won't let me do it. Unless I dis-able AI trim. Is this normal? And when do I re-engage the auto-trim? ( MSFS2020 B737-600 win 10 PC)
Any videos giving more pre-info about what sid, stars, vors etc are? All vids I see seem t o be for people already with knowledge of all things already. Im new to this, but where to get the basic, basic info? =) cheers.
Hello Jonathan, I have viewed and enjoyed many of your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have rub into a problem on this flight. I cannot get the auto pilot master "cmd" button to engage. Have checked pmdg forums and it seems to be a common problem but I could not find a solution. Any ideas or help? Thanks Steve

What a brilliant tutorial. Love your work and clear slow instructions. Excellent 😊👍🏻✅
Good idea Jon ! I just finished relearning 737-600/700 but I've learned many new things today, thank you for sharing

Yep - I learn a huge amaount from 737NG driver - you can't beat real-word experience for the 1001 small questions about "why does that DO that?" lol
Have watched this video before but still find bits I had missed. Brilliant 👍

Another fantastic video, Jonathan. Real insight and very well explained as usual. Mucha appreciated.
Glad you picked Torp, my favourite airport :) Very well explained, this will be helpful to a lot of people

Thanks for the vid JB, this is exactly what I needed! I understand SIDs and STARs a whole lot better now.
Brilliant video, just what I needed to start my learning. Always been confused by all of that!! 😅
Great video! Litle navmap is amazing, can't fly it without it

yes that makes sense, thanks for your excellent content! @@jonbeckett

Yeah - I didn't want to get into transitions because it would have started to make it a lot more involved :)
You are the best, thanks
excellent tutorial; i tried to follow along very closely but i cant get vnav to illuminate before or after takeoff
VNAV will not switch on without a fully configured flight plan, performance data, climb profile, and cruise altitude programmed in.

So the PMDG doesn't allow you to configure your approach performance and calculate the VREF speed and have it on the PFD? Or did you just omit that?
I omitted it :) I often miss things out, otherwise we would be here for hours :)
Great Video

You need a complete flight plan, flight directors on, and inertial navigation system aligned.
Does little navmap work without msfs installed? I play the game on Xbox and want to use a free flight program. Great video as usual!
You won't see an aircraft position - but yes - you can run it without MSFS
On Little nav map how do you get the runway selection for wind ?
hi john can u show how to download little nav map as i cant get it to work thanks
What's your favorite plane in MSFS
If you ask me on five different days, I'll give you five different answers.
@jonbeckett Mine is the MD80, no doubt. I think the upcoming 757 will be tied with it. I'm more old school than all these fancy cockpits.
you forgot about the passengers
If Navigraph was a one off purchase and not a sub, I would buy it. I have far too many subscriptions as it is...
They are ALWAYS updating it.
