  • Upgrading my Acer Aspire VN7-571g-55BL with an M.2 SSD.
    Everything worked out fine. After this Video i just migrated my system harddrive to the new SSD. That was realy a pain in the ass so i recommend just to make a clean new windows installation after this Upgrade. That way you can be sure to get the most out of the upgrade.

    Hi, good video. I did the upgrade yesterday with a western digital green M2 2280 WDS120G1G0B. For everyone, who would like the upgrade the following, during lifting the keyboard:
    If you have removed the screws from the underneath, don't press at the corners and don't use your fingernails to lift the keyboard. It is quit easy to lift the keyboard with a small cotter or something like a debit card. It that case you can gently release the clips around the keybord bezel.
    Everything else is discribed in the video. I needed just 15 minutes to disassable the notebook, add the m.2 ssd and reassamble the notebook. My m.2 ssd was directly found in the bios and the windows installation went fine. Even I had already an SSHD drive installed the notebook speeds up a lot. I really ca recommend to install a real ssd. For exable the notebook boots up (it was completely shutted down, not in the hybrite mode) in less then 10 seconds. Before it was around 45 seconds (also after an installation with the same programs.

    Thanks for this video. It spent an aged but still good notebook a second life for reasonable money. I'd like to add that it is MUCH better to get the WLAN module out with the antennas attached than to try to pry off the tiny antenna connectors. You may end up pulling the socket off the board, rendering both the module and the antenna useless and giving you the chance for an upgrade of the WLAN module too... 😕

    First, thanks to the uploader for uploading this, it was very useful when performing the m.2 installation. It was a great pain in the a** to do this but I'm finally done and everything seems to be working.
    I went into small panic mode after performing the installation as the laptop would not turn off on key press, unless the charger was connected. Luckily, one other person had the same issue here in the comments, so the solution is to put the plastic back together, only then does the batter works for some reason.
    So yeah, thanks again for the guide, and a middle finger to acer for making this so hard.

    memory, 2,5" sata ssd does and works great. But the ram and M2 what

    First, thanks so much for posting this video. I think it's great when people share their knowledge/experience like this. As a tip for next time, I think this video would have been much more valuable if you'd set up the camera so that it had a clear, overhead view of the laptop while you were working.

    I've bought additional RAM and am preparing to install it- conducting my research first. I cannot believe how complicated a task Acer have made it. This is a perfect example of poor design. I previously owned a MacBook pro which was simple and straightforward to upgrade. Why oh why does it have to be such an assault course?

    Hi, thanks for your video.
    I did it like you did and it is working. Great, but i got little issues when i want to build it together.
    First i bought the same SSD from Amazon for 99€.
    Opening was easy, but i did it different, cause it seems for me better. I did it from the front, i took a Kreditkart instead of my nails and it was very easy.
    Putting up the Kabels is easy. The big one is for the keyboard. when i put everything together, the keyboard was not working. I had to try 4 times till my Keyboard was working. You have to move the mounting forward, put the cabel in and than move the mountings back. not like the other ones up and down.
    And i got problems with the cabels from the Wlan Modul. I got luck and saw that one of the two aerial cabels jumps out. this is so small that it took a while to put it back again.
    After that i had to inilize the ssd under Windows and format the drive, than it works perfect.
    I think with this video everybody can do that if he got calm hands.
    thanks for help.

    Hey,
    I have an issue with a VN7-571g (5050). I replaced the dvd drive with an ssd bay and when i boot it up it says "pxe-e61 media test failure check cable".
    Cables are all in and it neither finds the ssd nor the build in HDD - even if i insert the dvd drive with a bootable win 7 disk it doesnt load it up.
    Bios says that the laptop doesnt have any harddrives (which is obv untrue)
    Laptop is running in legacy mode - switching to UEFI with and without secure boot doesnt change anything. The fact that even the build in DVD drive isnt properly addressed makes me wondering if the SATA controller was defect by default (didnt boot the laptop prior to the dvd-bay replacement though)
    Did you come across this error some time during your hardware changes / Do you have any idea what to do - except shipping it back?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Much thanks in advance - me :)

    Does anybody else who has this laptop have problems with the wireless at all? It's got a Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 wireless network adapter. It's really weird. Sometimes it works fine, and sometimes it doesn't work at all. The range on it seems to be pretty horrible as well. It does this even when other wireless devices are working fine, and I have the most current driver for it.
    And if the wireless card just needs to be replaced altogether, any recommendations for which wireless card I can or should replace it with? Please help!

    • @Martianbuddah
      @Martianbuddah  9 лет назад +1

      +Nathan Yu Nope, the Mainboard is well in place without the screw. The USB and HDMI Slots are holding the Mainboard in place within the Case very tightly. You'll see that when you try to get the mainboard out after unscrewing the two screws. I still dont have any problems with the laptop until now, no wobbing, nothing ... But of course i would not recommend to do it like this :D better ask the shop where you buy your ssd if they can give you the right screw if it is not already included.

    • @Martianbuddah
      @Martianbuddah  8 лет назад +2

      +Mathieu Foucher yup, i'm pretty sure it will look almost the same inside that laptop. vn7-571g is the name of the mainboard, the 50YQ just determines the rest of the configuration ( like, hard drives, graphics card, processor etc. ). But as long as there is no ssd in your configuration, i'm certain there will be a free m.2 slot inside your laptop.

    Hi i got a little question, I want to, as u did, add an ssd on my laptop.
    And also clean the dust, and why not change thermal paste.
    But before starting something like this, i want to be sure it's possible.
    I got the Acer Aspire VN7-571G-51S3.
    But it already had and hybrid hard drive with 8go on flash memory.
    Does it still possible ?
    And by the way, it was a cool vidéo, thanks for u'r time !
    Sorry for my terrible english :)

    • @Martianbuddah
      @Martianbuddah  7 лет назад

      Hiho, yes that should be possible. Cleaning dust is always a good idea, Changing thermal paste i dont know ... i think i would not do that but if you are sure that you are going to make it better, do it ^^.
      And yes, the Hybrid drive with 8gb flash is usually just one component like a normal hard drive, so the ssd upgrade should be possible as shown in the video.

    I may have missed something here, but how did Windows boot up and recognise new hardware after you installed the new SSD? Isn't the Windows installation on the SSD, and the HDD is just used for data?

    • @Martianbuddah
      @Martianbuddah  7 лет назад

      the ssd does not have a windows installation out of the box. so after pluging it in, windows still boots from the hdd as before, you have to migrate the system manually from hdd to ssd.

      @@harry_3332 hey. Let me give you some advice! DON'T try to put a NVME SSD regardless of its size, that's what I tried to do and the laptop is too old to read these drives. I had to re-buy another SSD, this time a M2 SATA 500gb, and it worked perfectly. Wish I had known before but hey, at least I managed to get it working. Huge loading gains. I think the laptop can also support a 1tb. So my suggestion for you is to buy a M2 SATA (not nvme!!) and it'll change your laptop! While you're at it, you should also clean your laptop's fans (remove dust) and change the CPU's thermal paste. It'll improve noise and lifespan

      Hi, don't know if you got your answer, but it's something you can do easily once you know how the jeys are attached.
      For the main keys (A,Z,E,R...), the top of them is inserted and the bottom of the is cliped. So you have to pull the key off pressing the top of the key and pulling the bottom of the key. Usually there's no risk of break.
      For the other keys, the thing is to find the cliped side and the inserted side. Just train with the usual keys till you see the force you usually need to get off the key and then try on the other keys, if it's not enough try from the other sides till it works. ;)
      I have exactly this computer too, and it took me some time at the beginning but you can do it !

      @Martianbuddah  5 лет назад

      Ja das wäre wahrscheinlich ratsam. Da ich solche Eingriffe natürlich nicht regelmäßig mache bin ich auch nicht sicher was hier die perfekte Vorgehensweise ist. Was bei mir auf jeden Fall zu Problemen geführt hat, war die Windows Registry die irgendwie nach der Migration teilweise nicht mit den Laufwerksbezeichnungen klargekommen ist. Ich denke wenn ich es noch mal machen müsste würde ich die Migration vorher machen und das System dann ein mal starten während nur die SSD eingebaut ist. Dann die alte Platte sichern&formatieren und ebenfalls einbauen. Vielleicht läuft das dann reibungsloser ab ^^

    • @FlexibleBladeTurbine
      @FlexibleBladeTurbine 5 лет назад

      OK, also ich habe mir eine 1TB Samsung SSD Evo 860 EVO SATA M.2 gekauft sowie einen USB3.0 zu M.2 Adapter (ca. 29€) und vor dem Umbau mit dem kostenlosen Migration Tool von Samsung einen Klon der alten 128GB M.2 SSD auf die neue SSD gezogen (ca. 20 Min). Der Tausch der SSDs, der natürlich sofort danach erfolgen sollte, brauchte dann mit etwas Konzentration 20 Minuten. Man sollte noch den Lüfter etwas aussaugen und schauen, ob die Netzteil Buchse nicht losgebrochen (ist meist der Fall, kann man mit Heißkleber wieder fixieren). Das BIOS wollte das neue Boot Device beim ersten Hochfahren bestätigt haben. Das war alles. Hat super geklappt. Vielleicht kannst Du diese Info noch in Deinen Beschreibungstext aufnehmen, denn das mit der Neuinstallation ist ja nicht so der Hit.

    • @Martianbuddah
      @Martianbuddah  5 лет назад

      @@FlexibleBladeTurbine Danke für das Feedback. Freut mich das alles gut gegangen ist. Ich lass die Beschreibung mal so wie sie ist, da ich selbst einfach zu wenig Erfahrung mit Migration habe um da gute allgemeingülte Ratschläge hinzuschreiben. Denke abhängig von der gekauften SSD & dem ursprünglichen setup (evtl wie bei mir mit Betriebssystem ursprünglich auf der HDD, die drin bleibt) kann da immer iwas schief gehen und ne Neuinstallation ist da der einfachste saubere weg. Dennoch hast du mal zwei Herzen für die Kommentare bekommen sodass die vielleicht von Migrationsinteressierten gesehen werden ^^

      Hey. You just have to make sure that it is a 2280 model with SATA ( not PCIe / NVMe ) connection. You could go for samsung, but other manifacturers like crucial and wd are usually cheaper. Here some amazon links, i would go for one of those i think:
      samsung evo 860: www.amazon.de/Samsung-MZ-N6E500BW-860-EVO-Interne/dp/B078WQVX9B/ref=sr_1_10?__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&keywords=m.2+ssd&qid=1557224132&s=gateway&sr=8-10

    • @Martianbuddah

      Well i don't know what they mean by frequency tbh ... The connector you see in this video i think is called b+m type ( it has 2 gaps inbetween the pins just as the ones from the amazon links i posted ). I recommed backing up all your data and doing a clean new installation of your OS. If you want to try to copy your OS to the new SSD, i cannot help you with that. But if you google for migration from HDD to m.2 ssd you will probably find something useful.

      +theCronoceptor Sorry for the late response.the last time i opened the laptop was for this video so i'm not sure about the possibilities anymore. As there is a graphics card in my laptop, i'm pretty sure that upgrade should be possible. I'm not sure if there is a free slot but you should be able to replace the existing ram with more powerful one.
