Since Discord wouldn't be able to be infected, maybe he could help with making the injured animal noises? Since he's the spirit of chaos I'm sure he could just make his voice sound like that. Plus, then when they snap Fluttershy out of it she'll have a friend there to help her feel safer after... _all of THAT._

You want a way to save the main six? Luna. I believe that as long as Luna is not infected, she could be putting the infected ponies asleep allowing Starlight to help them. Luna is probably not going to be very easy to reach though, and perhaps she’s in hiding, giving Starlight and Spike a major obstacle so it’s not too easy!
What about discord?, the dude can literally warp reality, I don't understand how he didn't try and kill the virus using his reality warping powers yet!
@@Adrianhasbeenreborn Maybe in this AU Discord was sealed in stone again or something and he's this unreliable last-shot hail-Mary from Starlight and Spike who ultimately comes in clutch after everything else has failed and things look bleak. Then again he's canonically at least part-pony so maybe he'd secretly be at risk of infection and then all of reality would end because his love for chaos would literally tear reality to pieces.
@@Adrianhasbeenreborn sorry I’m late, but what if Twilight accidentally killed him before he got the chance? What if he didn’t realize what was happening? It might be a bit far fetched though. In my own infection AU I made it so the disease actually caused magic to flicker out when an infected was near, and for that reason, Discord’s magic was severely weakened. There are a couple of ways around it.
So..out of curiosity, will we get to see some of the villains and how they’re holding up in this au? they’d probably be pretty freaked out with what’s going on. Edit: You gremlins sure like theorizing about this XD

I like the idea of Starlight being ponykind’s savior, but at some point, other unicorns would want to learn her spell. Maybe having Sunset Shimmer return to see this disease, learn about Starlight, and want to learn the spell herself as well as recruit other powerful unicorns for that purpose would be an interesting concept. Also, I see healthy ponies putting Celestia in solitary confinement since her talent is moving the sun. They would find it crucial that she never get sick as she could destroy the world if she lost control of her power. And since Celestia is more of a social butterfly, being isolated with little to no contact with the outside world would have a real negative effect on her mental health.
What if seeing the pain of her subjects is too much to bare so she ends up cracking and leaves. Then she ends up getting infected and there will be conflict with her an Luna
@@octoinkz So maybe not every unicorn, but those of exceptional power like Sunset, whom is shown to have power rivaling Alicorn Twilight a few times especially in her battle with Midnight Sparkle, and other alicorns like Luna, Celestia, and Cadence.
Another option, is simply have the other kingdoms get involved. The reason I say this is because, while they don't do much in the series, it is shown that other than Spike's instant scoll teliportation ability, or Celestia's magic chareet, news travels as fast as mail. And over long distances, mail can takes weeks to travel between towns. Not to say anything of other countries. Honestly with Rainbow Dash doing sonic rainbooms constantly the other kingdoms would be made aware of your cutie mark infection, and may or may not decide to help as they are immune so why, or because they aren't and want to decrease infection spread. With those who want to help maybe started out because of personal reasons, or out of annoyance of the constant bizarre explosions before realizing what is going on. Dragon kingdom is a high likely hood if Ember is the dragon lord, she at least knows Spike, Twilight and Rarity, and given that her kind is immune I think at least a few dragons would be sent as assistance. The Yak kingdom probably wouldn't have the news reach them for a long time, due to how harsh the environment they live in, up to you to decide. The Crystal Empire would probably lock their doors to minimize infection rates, due to the two Alicorns that live their could become infected and now there's two more calamity level threats. Changlings, depending on whose their ruler is at the time will most likely dictate their response, Crysalisis will likely end up staying far away far ponies, or even try to cure them herself out of desperation due to the fact that infected ponies would be highly improbable to create any kind of love that the changlings could feed on, but infected cured by changlings would more then likely desire to help what could easily be considered their saviors, potentially becoming free love generators in the process. Thorax meanwhile, would most likely feel indebted to Starlight and the main six, for a considerable number of reasons, like how they are his friends, and helped pull his people out of the constant misery of starvation. Honestly, this rant is just fun worldbuilding speculation on my part. But I've only seen how the ponies react to the virus and not any of the other kingdoms, but if this helps inspire you go for it, see where the story takes you.
I personally think that Pinkie Pie's infection would be different: Her whole thing is to make people laugh. She does this pretty well even though her situational awareness and lack of room reading skill makes this trait irking at times. Thus, her ailment would be infectious laughter...except to the EXTREME. She physically CAN'T stop hysterically laughing to the point where it is difficult to properly breathe, drink, eat, and sleep. Now the party pony only wants to calm down, sip some water, and just...nap...but she literally can't. Have you ever tried to just rest when in the midst of chest pounding laughter? Even the Batman's Joker takes breaks sometimes.
Yeah and what if like discord made her have that power? (Because they both share chaos and discord could prob be trying to help pinkie pie but ends up making things worse)
I have a feeling that potentially Trixie could be really volatile and unpredictable because of her magic tricks - fireworks alone would be a danger for others. And perhaps the disease makes her go back to her old habits and she tries to "one up" the other infected ponies like in Boast Busters. Like eg. magically takes control of Pinkie's body and puppets her to "entertain" others.
Okay so from what I got from the show, Starlight's cutie unmarking spell has been shown to disable magic once the target has been hit with the spell and just completely immobilize them. Maybe Starlight could try to catch Twilight off guard and unmark her 🕳
Didn't say this on the last video but Rarity putting the gems in her eyes after she blinds herself is literally the canon backstory for the G1 twinkle eyed ponies, the only difference is there's no evil wizard.
I wonder what happened to cozy glow because her destiny is to manipulate so I believe the infection would work like this: Her appearance is normal.The infection has adapted in her body. To stay hidden to be better for manipulation. The tendency to try to manipulate people has increased even more. She hides among the healthy ponies, infecting and manipulating the rest for her own safety. Can't stop manipulating no matter who it is. Her anger problems have increased because of the infection. Forced smile and a little unusual because of the fear of being discovered. I see cozy glow being the biggest villain in this Au. Depending on how the infection will interact with her mark.
I feel like the cmc would also be kinda helpful in this situation given that their cutie marks are based off of helping others find their purpose/get their cutie marks. Maybe they would also be immune given that the way that they got their cutie marks all together in a special magical way. The magic that gave them all their cutie marks and magically linked them together could have given them immunity to this virus!!
Aren't the Mane Six also linked due to getting their marks all at the same time thanks to Rainbow Dash's sonic rainboom? As thegamergrookey brought up, maybe Apple Bloom's previous infection (combined with CMC's magic link) could make them immune? A more terrifying thought is that none of them are immune, and being infected results in them being forced to travel and "help" others get their cutiemarks, resulting in more ponies getting infected...

Well, I just wanna say, I think that after Fluttershy goes missing, Discord gonna show up and take care of her previous animals like Angel since Fluttershy is missing. Because we know how Discord and Fluttershy are in the show, I feel like he’d do that since 1, reminds him of Fluttershy, 2, since they also don’t have anyone to take care of them like Fluttershy did
I love the path you chose for Starlight, having her use her cutie mark removal spell in order to try and save ponies, but she's overworked and conflicted over the trauma of her past using it. Very clever and interesting. Although now I'm thinking about what if the princesses were infected. I'm thinking like a Nightmare Moon vs Daybreaker struggle, but with Luna and Celestia, aware of their states and heartbroken at what they're doing, and their constantly trying to fight the infection while also struggling for dominance over having their celestial body in the sky. I'm thinking because if this, we see the sun and moon occupying the sky at the same time, like in that one episode "Princess Twlight Sparkle Part 1".
the world would be a continuous eclipse. their cutie marks letting neither of them give up their time in the sky. forcing them to keep both the moon and the sun high in the sky and slowly draining their energy and magic.
Since Fluttershy is in the Everfree Forest, I think it would be a cool idea if Zecora could find her and possibly help her. Maybe she could make potions that could AT LEAST hold back the disease for a little while.
I had an idea. What if Zecora was infected the whole time? I mean, we don't know what her infection would be, since a spiraly sun thing is fairly ambiguous, so perhaps it's about being mysterious. I imagine that Discord f-ed something up 1,000 years ago, but it affected the zebras first. But then, Zecora accidentally infected Apple Bloom, who spread it to the other Apples, who then dispersed the disease through their crops, infecting all of Ponyville.
Damn, i didn’t expect twilight to be a literal ticking time bomb. I really love that idea cuz it also relates to twilight’s character as she is prone to being stressed out and falling under pressure
I have a question, how would this disease interact with ponies who don’t have cutie marks yet? Are they immune? Do they get hyper fixated on finding their mark? I have to imagine that if they’re immune, there would be a huge amount of ponies who are too scared to do anything, just in case they’re to good at it and they get a mark. I can only imagine the nightmare the Cutie Mark Crusaders would be in this universe.
Children would be immune. Also since the CMC help people understand their cutie marks and lives rather than help them get them they wouldn’t be a huge issue
What if the non-marked have the illness but it will be docile and seemingly like theyre not infected but as soon as they receive the marks, the illness multifold it strength and instantly take control, skipping multiple stage and went to taking control instantly @@octoinkz
Wonder how it affects Crystal ponies? They seem to be kind of reflective in their coats and stuff, so maybe they have some kind of difference in how they're affected. Like, instead of veins, they get crystal growths that spread from their cutie marks instead. Even more morbid if they're growths from underneath the skin, leading to bleeding that further spreads infection vectors. They could also have an onset of slow paralysis, their bodies "crystallizing" until they become like statues. What about the reformed Changelings? They could be part of the AU, Thorax and the changelings could be part of the rescue efforts or the quarantine efforts since they don't have marks and wouldn't be an infection vector. They could be kind of like the guards for the communities that are uninfected, or be searchers for ponies that are. Maybe like first responders that help care for the infected until Starlight can come get them. Lots of possibilities. I liked the quarantining celestia idea, but what I like better is the implication of what Discord is doing. Like, why wouldn't he be looking for fluttershy or using his phenomenal chaos powers to help capture more volatile infected? The answer? He got his early self's wish to take over equestria... but in the worst way possible. Celestia and Luna both caught the bug, or because of it can't come out of their quarantine zones to raise the sun and moon. Think about it, most scenes involve them being outside to raise the sun or moon, which would be a big no-no since they might be exposed to the disease. So while they're basically forced to hide out so they can manage government affairs and try to handle the crisis in clean, sterile white rooms, Discord is taking care of the courts and having to raise the sun and moon, which we've seen him able to do before. Cadence has already been shown to really not have the firepower to be able to pull that feat off. Moreover, how would the cold climate of the crystal empire affect the disease? If we really wanted to get scary, then the snow and ice could make it even worse, basically preserving the disease on ice until some hapless victim accidentally tracks it into the empire and thaws it. I like the idea of cadence being a survivor and shining armor being an infectee. Cadence basically having to spend most or all her time trying to care for shining armor, while Shining was infected by the prior mentioned means while reinforcing a barrier to quarantine ponies, and now the entire crystal empire is cut off from the rest of the world because he can't stop keeping a massive barrier up around the city. Everyone there is trapped with each other, no outside food or water, and starlight can't get in to help the ponies there because of the barrier.
The barrier idea is terrifying… the only real way out would be to either let Shining die. Or to hope that curing Twilight could give them a magical being able to break through the shield… perhaps they would have to request help from the Changlings, in order to help Twilight, so they could help the Empire. Or maybe, they would have to cure the mane six in general, they can do some crazy things when they’re together… I both love and hate this idea.
If I may, shining armor has a shield as a cute mark and while im not entire sure what it means [haven't watched the show in ages] it could be a cool way to use that as like if he only wants to protect Cadence or the others so he maintains the barrier up no matter proving that since his cutie mark is a shield, he keeps everyone trapped inside while keeping help out unintentionally?
Maybe after Starlight Glimmer can also make ponies effectively immune by taking their cutie marks before they're even infected, since (as I understand it) no cutie mark = no infection. Also, what about the princesses? How would CMWD affect them, or the crystal ponies? Oh, also also, maybe the cured/immune/uninfected ponies would end up staying at Celestia's palace to keep them safe from those that can't be cured, or maybe with the changelings since they'd be effectively immune too. Sorry if that's a lot, I tend to just get run away ideas once my brain attaches to something xD
Thinking about Sunburst. He would just be holed up reading. Like it’s not DANGEROUS, but I think maybe he could be an example of a cured pony and how awful it would be to live without his special talent.

I almost forgot about pinkie sense and just realized how bad that would be. Starlight and spike wouldn't be able to set any traps to restrain her because she would just always know and avoid them.
this AU is awesome! i always thought it would be cool to give mlp characters infected abilities based on their cutie marks, so this is great. also, as a biology person, i'd like to talk about chronic wasting. chronic wasting is a prionic disease, so it can form inside of a victim's brain, possibly meaning your disease could randomly infect new targets, making it spread super quickly. additionally, "infected zones" could be an interesting idea, because wasting disease in the real world can remain in the environment for years until another victim shows up. chronic wasting disease is, finally, known for eventually stopping the victim from moving by breaking their motor control, and since most infected ponies have broken bones and tons of bruises, there could be some ponies that have been infected so long that they can't move from all the damage. this might not make sense, but i imagine that pinkie pie would act a bit like two in bfdi tpot 9, where she just randomly teleports around, destroys everything around her with her chaos powers, makes someone disappear never to be seen again, and leaves. i'd also like to ask in this verse, what's going on with the other alicorns, and where's discord? also, why hasn't discord cured fluttershy yet, because that would usually be the first thing he did in this sort of situation.
@@prokid2501 i mean, gravity manipulation, teleportation, and running as fast as rainbow dash can fly are all under her list of 100% known abilities, so i wouldn't put it out of the question. my personal theory on all of pinkie's madness is that she gave herself retroactive chaos magic when she gained discord's power for a few seconds in the finale.
I just found these today and I absolutely love this au. Theres been a Grimdark story about there being a pony settlement in the Everfree Forest that thought cutie marks were a plague and you could possibly incorporate something like that in the lore. Also, I feel like this virus could eventually mutate. Or mutate by being tampered with by some ponies trying to find an alternate solution than having their special talent removed so those more violent or missing could be saved. This mutation could affect other creatures like Discord or the Crystal Ponies(since they are considered a different species of pony) It could even end up infecting Hypogriffs and Griffins. Since every sentient creature has their own type of magic, it could possibly make that magic work overtime. Or it could amplify something ingrained into that species like Discord needing chaos to exist of a Griffin's greed for gold and money.

Yes, but not her exact location, especially if Rarity is constantly moving searching for more gems. Seeing how big, deep, and indefinite amount of paths there are in the gem cave, it would be damn near impossible to get to her without a tracking device, and even harder to actually get Rarity some help.
Pinkie is a lil out of character because we've seen her spin her neck around 360 multiple times and then just casually undo it with no injury. She's a bit of an eldritch being and a lot of AUs forget that, or completely ignore it. The idea is still interesting though.
To be honest considering Lyra’s and bon bon’s cutie marks, their probably gonna be saved so now I’m curious how it would look for someone who was infected, but cured. Like would they go back to normal or would they retain their injuries
Late but I wonder if, after being cured, the pony wouldn't want anything to do with their special talent anymore, and could lose that part of themselves.
@@thelizzievb I think for some they would, but others would never really stop. They wouldn’t have their cutie marks, but they would continue to do what they love. They got their mark doing it, so why would they stop? Some ponies might even lose their minds completely and despite being saved still act as if they were infected.
What if the ponies with cutie marks that correlate with medical care causes the infection to either A. Actually help other infected ponies around with the cost of overworking themselves. Or B. Causes them to attempt to “heal” themselves from the illness via home remedies and then poisoning themselves by mistake, or ripping out chunks of flesh by trying to get the vines off
What if they were trying to help, but a combination of exhaustion and fever causes them to get sloppy. Maybe they start trying to "fix" things that aren't broken, such as amputating, transplanting, or grafting. Of course this kills the patient due to lack of anesthetic, infection, or inevitable mistakes.
things you could do: wait for applejacks legs to break completely watch for rainbows and have something to break rainbow dashes fall when her wings break gather a large majority of the animals in the area to lure fluttershy gather lots of rare gems to lore rarity have lots of immune ponies laugh to lore pinky pie, then keep her down with magic and last which is the most risky have the equestrian girls twilight(since she's not technically a pony she might be immune) come to hold back whatever you want to use to catch OG Twilight
Theres heaps i can think of fpr background ponies. DJ pon-3 would be constantly playing music, so she could probably be cured pretty easily, not really needing to go anywhere to do that. I feel like derpy could be immune ( i have no viable reasoning for this, i just want the adorable mare to be ok). And i feel like pinkie could be pretty easy to get and hold in one place, at least hypothetically. Just... Laugh. If she tries to make you laugh, just do it. If she's been trying to make people laugh, just laugh and she'll probably lock onto you because your the only one to laugh at her anymore. And to get her to stop hurting herself through the overexertion, just ask her to tell a joke, then laugh at it, and repeat the process until starlight can fix her. Maybe even use reverse psychology and say it would be hilarious if her cutie mark got removed by Starlight. Applejack would be another easy one to cure i feel like, if her legs are broken and shes psychically exhausted, shes got to be slow, right? She would also be at the farm 24/7, so you wouldn't need to look for her much. I feel like the changelings would be unaffected, not having cutie marks and all unless there transformed into someone, but they'd probably starve without ponies love to eat
@@GLORIOUSCHONK Derpy is immune, her talent is Derpyness… she is always derpy, nothing would change, so she can’t get infected, if she did she’d be an easy cure. Probably one of the first to be cured, and then of course would still be Derpy… she’s a great pony.
One thought I've had since the first video: if Spike goes with Rarity when she's hunting for jewels, would he not check the usual spots he's gone to with her? They know the disease goes off your talen, and thats hers, so he would naturally look for her there right? I also feel like Zecora would eventually find/see Fluttershy, since Zecora does live in the forest. I don't think she'd be able to really help Shy, but if somepony comes around asking Zecora at some point she could give them a headstart.
So I have a few ideas for what to do with some villians Discord could be housing Noninfected ponys in his little choas realm, and could have a little section in it that looks like ponyvill [idk how to spell it] The changlings and chrysalis [don't know how to spell her name] could be immune due to not having a cutiemark, and one changling could have a similar personality to twilight whose actively trying to find what caused the disease [I don't know many villians, maybe the dazzlings could find a way to come back idk] There could be a few safe houses too
It makes me wonder if Celestia and Luna might end up becoming Nightmare Moon and Daybreaker, just from the compulsion to constantly have their respective celestial body raised, or maybe they’re immune to most of the effects of the disease in a roundabout way? Like if they both have the sun and moon in the sky separately, does that mean that their compulsions are fulfilled and they’re able to focus on other things?
Dang, this is REALLY GOOD. The mane six designs are all super good, and I love the designs on spike and Starlight. One thing that I really want to highlight here is Starlight's staff. It was shown that Starlight doesn't even need the staff to remove cutie marks, but I love your inclusion of it, because strangly enough, I think that its a way of motivation for Starlight. Yes, it is a way of major despair or trauma for her, but when she wants to give up, the staff is a reminder to her that she is possibly one of the only ones capable of doing it. Its both a major blessing and curse all the same, like a whole other cutie mark that she must use all the time. I may have just overanalyzed this, but even so, im so happy to see such a thoughtful and show-accurate infection au! Thank you, and have a nice day today! :D 😁❤🎉

@@octoinkzI always thought it was more so a way for her to channel that power you know make it easier to control I mean she is literally ripping a cutie mark off of someone so it would make sense that that type of magic is hard to pinpoint at a cutie mark so she is using the stuff to make it easier like a lens focusing in on a object the staff acts as a focal point for the magic that was always my idea behind it
Thank you for making it so that Spike isnt infected. I kinda hate it in fan works when fans disregard canon and logic just for a hypothetical scenario like this.
I like the idea that someone like pinkie pie being infected, since her talent relies on social perception, would theoretically be much easier to treat. Granted I’m not an mlp fan so I wouldn’t know the specifics, but I can imagine her being desperate for the approval of others, and only recoiling from a cure if the cutie mark virus has self preservation instincts. An interesting conflict between wanting to be liked and make other people laugh and the instincts of a virus to persist and spread.
If there is one criticism I have is that you keep saying "I'm trying to find the way of making this the most dangerous" but just... Why ? Why does the illness goes the dangerous sense ? Is it sentient ? Because if the goal is to kill/make ponies go missing, how does it spread ? Is it some sort of magical bio-weapon made to wipe out the pony race ? Is it the work of an unseen villain ? Because, as the logical fact that illnesses generally work in a way to be contagious to continue to spread, this illness seems to not be very good at that. What if, instead of only compelling the ponies to do stuff related to their talent, they want to SHOW their talents, making them seek populated areas to perform in front of crowds to spread the disease.
I do find your point interesting. Yes it would be hard to spread based on idea of wiping out the population of ponies. I think a great way to spread it wouldn't be based on to kill or harm to begin with. Just like the idea of using the episode when Applebloom gets loads of cuties. But it's not just Applebloom who gets infected first, but also Zecora unknowingly. Sure Zecora finds out Applebloom has made the potion but finds out too late which ingredients are actually used. For this au, I was thinking how far it could reach and I thought it would be hard to hit Zecora, unless it started in the Everfree Forest because of Applebloom's potion experiment. The infection is very slow acting since it is based on the talents. Maybe even Zecora try to get the main six for help but infected them because she didn't understand at first what this disease was until too late. Maybe making more of the potions because she can't stop, so might make more infection on accident as well
I’d like to imagine discord would be a major player here. Either he isn’t infected, allowing him to possibly cure the infection all together if he really tried. Or option 2, he gets infected himself. Maybe apple bloom could be some source of the disease, and when discord stumbles upon her, the hundreds of cutie marks entangle them, becoming the “mother” of the virus. This could also make it so they later fuse with other characters later on.
I think this is my favorite infected AU that I've seen. Mostly because it doesn't rely as heavily on the whole gore aspect that other AUs I've seen do. It's such an interesting concept!
Now it seriously makes me wonder about how it'd affect the Doctor Ponies, or those of the Royal Guard. Or that of the other princesses, like Celestia, Luna, and Cadence!
I think at a certain point thered be a group of blank flanks that are working to help people around them. Maybe one of them gets a cutie mark helping people with the virus and somethinf with them (like their magic concetrated or biology) could be used to help cure ponies.
I think Discord will be a MVP because of his chaos magic we see him change stuff and ger rid of stuff and if Fluttershy got the Cutie Mark Wasting Disease he would help.
Okay three ideas, idea 1 the CMC also get infected and due to their cutie marks being to help ponies with their talents there’d be forced to do whatever the ponies near them do by say gathering stuff or doing the same task, idea 2 Big Mac is immune like Starlight and Spike and is seriously worried about his infected family, idea 3 the young six mostly non-ponies also help as they two wouldn’t be affected except Sandbar but he’d be like Starlight and Big Mac because we actually never learn what his special talent is.
I get where your coming from but the CMC’s special talents are specifically to help others find their special talents. They wouldn’t do what the ponies near them do, they’d probably try to find fillys with no cutie mark and ‘help’ them find their special talent and get their cutie mark. Honestly it would probably result in a bunch of fillys who didn’t even have a cutie mark one day and then the next day they would have the disease.

My idea for this AU is how the infection starts, when a pony is first infected they start talking about their talent and how love it or feel the need to do it stage 2 showing signs of extreme anxiety when not doing their talent (pacing and tugging on hair) then to make the virus go into full effects the anxiety is so bad they act of their talent and stage 3 they cant stop
I like that this feels more like a dark au of an episode, showing worse consequences without a happy ending. But the concept would work perfectly. I really hope to see more
Imagine the effects this kind of disease would have on fillys. Kids wouldn’t want to get their cutie marks anymore, so they would literally never do anything, and with most of the adults being sick, children would be left alone in their houses for weeks on end with no one willing or able to take care of them.

I love this idea a lot for an infection au. I feel so bad for the mane six, Starlight and Spike. Poor Starlight needs more moral support like say Trixie or Maud (who could be the only uninfected Pie). Honestly could see Trixie being 'cured' and not having her cutie mark since Starlight wouldn't want to see her friend suffer from the disease Could be interesting to see who else might be a survivor. Such as maybe either Apple Bloom or Big Mac or maybe one of the other CMC
I had a fun thought for the CMC if they have their marks. They could be unintentional hyper-spreaders. If their destiny is to help others find their marks, perhaps they all fixate on that but none of them realise they're playing right into the infection's wants. By focusing on getting others their marks, they're only spreading it further and further beyond Starlight's control, unintended though it may be. Not sure about Sunset Shimmer but it would be nice to see her involved too. Either as a help to Starlight or somehow carrying it to the human world after a visit to see what's going on (assuming Starlight hasn't gotten to Twilight's book to warn Sunset prior).
Speaking of Shining Armor... his talent is protecting people, right? Imagine if he cast a protection spell around himself/someone he cared about and physically could not let them go. Not even when they got hungry, or thirsty, or started running out of oxygen. And Cadence's talent is matchmaking, with her passion being spreading love; I could see her becoming a brutal dictator in the Crystal Empire after being infected, using her magic to force ponies into being loving and friendly with one another all the time like the world's largest and most messed up dollhouse.

perhaps show some ponies post cure, really see how it effects them mentally and psychically. also when i see these aus i always like to think about how my oc family would handle it. astro (unicorn) and his daughter nightlight (pegasus blank flank) would have gotten to a shelther where astro would try to help find a permant cure. Nightguard (unicorn) is a royal guard with her talent being combatting those who threaten the weak so she would be out fighting literally anything that her cutie mark sees as a possible threat. petal dance (earth pony astro's big sister) is a ballet dancer who wouldnt be able to stop her performances tearing away are her hooves.

Oooh! I love this AU! Maybe the way it starts is that Apple Bloom’s potion, instead of spreading Cutie Marks all over her, has no effect on her (as she has no Cutie Mark)? Twilight could be the main source of the infection as her magic lasers coming out of her broken horn could fuel the virus!

I feel the CMC would be in exile. The fear of the virus and what it does would make those that don't have their cutie marks not want their cutie marks. It would also be interesting to find out the virus does with those who don't have their cutie marks yet. Are they ticking time bombs? Does it make them get their marks early?
I feel like pinkie is THE MOST dangerous, yes twilight is a lost cause but pinkie is not just really energetic and literally bouncing off the walls she is KNOWN for breaking the fourth wall, knowing things that she relatively shouldn't, and her tingling like her tail she could literally SENSE IF ANYONE NEAR HER idk how but she does have the tail tingle why not if anyone is near her? To make them laugh... ( p.s. if we are taking in account the human world by the end of equestria girls we see her SWAP with the other pinkie would she spread it there or is she free?)

8:13 watching you do the final details like this at the end for all the characters at once made my brain feel lighter because that’s WAY easier than doing EVERY bit for one character in one go because then it’s easier to keep things like lighting consistent
Something I’d been wondering is how this disease affect the Changlings. As first I thought this would make them immune since y’know they don’t have cutie marks, but I had an idea. What if while they transform say one of them becomes Twilight or something, if they get infected while transformed they are physically stuck as that pony and cannot change back. And what transforming into a pony for a long period of time was draining and made them constantly exhausted and even more in a state of starvation until they eventually die? They don’t have to die obviously lol I do think it’s a unique idea and something to consider. Edit: Or instead of that, if they get infected somehow then they’re constantly changing without being able to control it. Meaning they can’t really get any rest or do much of anything.
I just realized that Boba Star /my ponysona/ would be dangerous cause her talent is making teas for other ponies and finding stars, so she would make infected teas for people and would constantly fly around destroying or finding stars! So she would 1: like shatter the stars and get really burned and like destroy the sky 2: be a main spreader of the disease cause of her making teas, also she wouldn’t really be able to be helped cause either ponys get infected by drinking her teas or /even though she has no horn, she does have some kind of connection or star power/ so they would get burned or injured!
You have any ideas for the other princesses? Luna, Celestia, Cadence? As well as Shining Armor and Flurryheart? I also think seeing how the other races of Equestria are treating the outbreak would be interesting. Even if it's not something they can catch, they'd probably still be taking precautions as a "just in case" thing. I've yet to see one of these that goes into how other races are faring during these horrible events, so it could be an interesting thing to explore, at least in my opinion.

Here some ideas for the background ponies Nurse Redheart:Due to the cutie mark disease Nurse Red Heart has to double her work due to all the ponies with disease she has caused her a lot of stress due to because of the amount of pressure due to seeing ponies she once knew dropping dead ,and the amount of ponies depending on her to like save their family members and friends Derpy:Derpy is on look out duty to see if ponies are infected and if they are she writes it down and write it down to letters all around due to this it causes her to be really tried due to doing this 24/7. DJ Pon-3:Dj Pon-3 is one of the infected ponies due to her love for music the incarceration has caused to play her music all the time this cause her go deaf the sound of the music playing and making her very tired because she playing her music all the time causing her be in pain like the other infected ponies. “Bon Bon”:Due to her being a spy I imagine she tries to solve why caused cutie mark disease and when Celstia wasn’t infected infected then she had send mail to her so Celstia would get the info about it and tell the non ponies this but because Celstia had gotten infected she become a safer trying to make sure ponies know what to due when ponies get infected.
So, I was thinking about this, and one idea came to mind, completely out of the blue: Zecora. She'd probably be immune, but... What if she can still carry it, due to being extremely similar to a pony? What if she's been infected this whole time, and then she accidentally infected Apple Bloom, who spread it to the rest of the Apple family, who would go on to infect Ponyville? She does actually have a Cutie Mark, but its meaning is left ambiguous. Perhaps it has something to do with being magically mysterious? And, here's a pretty out there idea: Cutie Mark Wasting Disease wiped out the zebras. Perhaps Zecora was fleeing the disease, or possibly just was already infected and, because of her mysterious nature, she just vanished into the Everfree Forest. What if, once all this takes off, she just vanishes again? Another concept I thought of is about Tirek. He could work with Starlight and Spike, and take the magic of infected ponies, making Starlight's job easier. But, of course, he's a pretty disagreeable guy, so it wouldn't be easy working with him. One last thing. Where's Discord? I imagine that he probably f-ed something up 1000 years ago, and it's only been a problem for the zebras until recently. There are a few ideas for what is happening with him: 1, he's part of the Resistance in some way. (That's what I'm calling the group that's helping Starlight and Spike.) 2, he's only trying to help Fluttershy. (All you FlutterCord shippers, this one's for you.) 3, he actually only rarely helps anyone. (This is due to his unpredictable and chaotic nature.) 4, he disappeared. (Because why not?) I think that if celestia or Luna got infected..DOOMED,EVERYONE IS DOOMED. Unless they get discord involved,maybe he’s a last-stand kind of guy here. In my headcanon, Cutie Pox is like Chicken Pox in the way that you become completely immune if you get it once. So I think that they could fix this whole thing by infecting the uninfected ponies with Cutie Pox and then curing them so that they become immune to Cutie Mark Wasting Disease.
Definitely wanna see some others dealing with the disease, like what about the little ponies? Or other siblings or family members, other fan favorite characters, who is infected or who is immune or fighting to avoid getting infected. There is a lot of potential for this series and I definitely wanna hear about it, this is the most unique one I've seen
I feel like Pinkie or applejack might be the easiest ones to cure if pinkie tries to make you laugh then do it she will be focused on you while starlight trys to cure her applejack she would not be hard to find maybe using magic will help detain her and get cured by starlight in my option rarity is medium level to cure because she cant be found but theres a possibility she can be cured because Spike is helping starlight and Rarity normally takes spike for finding gems normally so spike will lead starlight the way to Rarity.Zecora might help Fluttershy idk Twilight and Rainbow dash are the hardest ones to cure with Twilight doing magic everywhere she might hit starlight or spike but Tirek might help unless the infection finds a way to get her magic back Rainbow dash Might be detained with magic at the perfect timing but it has to be just perfect
Though I could also see that the mane 6 and the CMC were the first infected and thus couldn't be to cured because, the disease could possibly continue as long as there is flesh on their bones. I.e They were already DEAD by the time Starlight realized she could cure them. Only way to put them to rest? Burning their bodies. Rarity and Fluttershy would be the easiest. With starlight burning Fluttershy, by targeting an animal instead *Fluttershy's cutiemark would choose the animal's life over it's own*. While SPIKE would be forced to burn rarity's remains. Maybe reveal that the infection DID affect spike but in a slightly different way, not a bad way though. Like he can hear the voices of those who are already cleansed with the fires. So after he burns Rarity's body he can hear her speak to him reassuring him to continue, and not regret his actions. Next on difficulty would be Applejack and Rainbow due to their strength and speed. While the final two would be Pinkie and Twilight.
While I would love to see some villians, I just don't think there are that many pony ones. Cause this disease is done through Cutie Marks, that cuts like 70% of the villians since they aren't ponies. Chrysalis is a maybe, since she can fake a Cutie Mark with her disguises, but other than that, no other non pony villian. That leaves Tempest Shadow, Daybreaker, Nightmare Moon, and Cozy Glow. I might be forgetting some others, but those 4 are the most prominent. Aside from maybe Trixie if she still had the Alicorn Amulet.
It's really just Tempest left, even though she's sort of reformed. Daybreaker and Nightmare Moon are just Celestia and Luna is they snapped and turned evil, and Cozy Glow is a stone statue. I do wonder if this would affect Zecora. She's not a pony but she does have a mark on her flanks (not sure if its a cutie mark or just her natural striping.)
I think that anyone without a cutie mark is completely immune, like changlings. So there could be a ton of allies for starlight, that could potentially help her? I’m pretty sure changlings can perform magic, and others have special abilities, so would this happen in it?

You want a way to save the main six? Luna. I believe that as long as Luna is not infected, she could be putting the infected ponies asleep allowing Starlight to help them. Luna is probably not going to be very easy to reach though, and perhaps she’s in hiding, giving Starlight and Spike a major obstacle so it’s not too easy!
What about discord?, the dude can literally warp reality, I don't understand how he didn't try and kill the virus using his reality warping powers yet!

Then again he's canonically at least part-pony so maybe he'd secretly be at risk of infection and then all of reality would end because his love for chaos would literally tear reality to pieces.

In my own infection AU I made it so the disease actually caused magic to flicker out when an infected was near, and for that reason, Discord’s magic was severely weakened. There are a couple of ways around it.

I like the idea of Starlight being ponykind’s savior, but at some point, other unicorns would want to learn her spell. Maybe having Sunset Shimmer return to see this disease, learn about Starlight, and want to learn the spell herself as well as recruit other powerful unicorns for that purpose would be an interesting concept. Also, I see healthy ponies putting Celestia in solitary confinement since her talent is moving the sun. They would find it crucial that she never get sick as she could destroy the world if she lost control of her power. And since Celestia is more of a social butterfly, being isolated with little to no contact with the outside world would have a real negative effect on her mental health.
Maybe but starlight is known to be extremely strong (stronger than twilight and maybe cadence) and that spell is a very difficult one to learn

@@octoinkz So maybe not every unicorn, but those of exceptional power like Sunset, whom is shown to have power rivaling Alicorn Twilight a few times especially in her battle with Midnight Sparkle, and other alicorns like Luna, Celestia, and Cadence.
Another option, is simply have the other kingdoms get involved. The reason I say this is because, while they don't do much in the series, it is shown that other than Spike's instant scoll teliportation ability, or Celestia's magic chareet, news travels as fast as mail. And over long distances, mail can takes weeks to travel between towns. Not to say anything of other countries.
Honestly with Rainbow Dash doing sonic rainbooms constantly the other kingdoms would be made aware of your cutie mark infection, and may or may not decide to help as they are immune so why, or because they aren't and want to decrease infection spread. With those who want to help maybe started out because of personal reasons, or out of annoyance of the constant bizarre explosions before realizing what is going on.
Dragon kingdom is a high likely hood if Ember is the dragon lord, she at least knows Spike, Twilight and Rarity, and given that her kind is immune I think at least a few dragons would be sent as assistance. The Yak kingdom probably wouldn't have the news reach them for a long time, due to how harsh the environment they live in, up to you to decide. The Crystal Empire would probably lock their doors to minimize infection rates, due to the two Alicorns that live their could become infected and now there's two more calamity level threats. Changlings, depending on whose their ruler is at the time will most likely dictate their response, Crysalisis will likely end up staying far away far ponies, or even try to cure them herself out of desperation due to the fact that infected ponies would be highly improbable to create any kind of love that the changlings could feed on, but infected cured by changlings would more then likely desire to help what could easily be considered their saviors, potentially becoming free love generators in the process. Thorax meanwhile, would most likely feel indebted to Starlight and the main six, for a considerable number of reasons, like how they are his friends, and helped pull his people out of the constant misery of starvation.
Honestly, this rant is just fun worldbuilding speculation on my part. But I've only seen how the ponies react to the virus and not any of the other kingdoms, but if this helps inspire you go for it, see where the story takes you.
I personally think that Pinkie Pie's infection would be different: Her whole thing is to make people laugh. She does this pretty well even though her situational awareness and lack of room reading skill makes this trait irking at times. Thus, her ailment would be infectious laughter...except to the EXTREME. She physically CAN'T stop hysterically laughing to the point where it is difficult to properly breathe, drink, eat, and sleep. Now the party pony only wants to calm down, sip some water, and just...nap...but she literally can't. Have you ever tried to just rest when in the midst of chest pounding laughter? Even the Batman's Joker takes breaks sometimes.
Yeah and what if like discord made her have that power? (Because they both share chaos and discord could prob be trying to help pinkie pie but ends up making things worse)

I have a feeling that potentially Trixie could be really volatile and unpredictable because of her magic tricks - fireworks alone would be a danger for others. And perhaps the disease makes her go back to her old habits and she tries to "one up" the other infected ponies like in Boast Busters. Like eg. magically takes control of Pinkie's body and puppets her to "entertain" others.

Okay so from what I got from the show, Starlight's cutie unmarking spell has been shown to disable magic once the target has been hit with the spell and just completely immobilize them. Maybe Starlight could try to catch Twilight off guard and unmark her

The tendency to try to manipulate people has increased even more.
She hides among the healthy ponies, infecting and manipulating the rest for her own safety.
Can't stop manipulating no matter who it is.
Her anger problems have increased because of the infection.
Forced smile and a little unusual because of the fear of being discovered.
I see cozy glow being the biggest villain in this Au. Depending on how the infection will interact with her mark.
I feel like the cmc would also be kinda helpful in this situation given that their cutie marks are based off of helping others find their purpose/get their cutie marks. Maybe they would also be immune given that the way that they got their cutie marks all together in a special magical way. The magic that gave them all their cutie marks and magically linked them together could have given them immunity to this virus!!
Plus Applebloom specifically already went through a cutie mark illness in the show, which is also the base For this au

A more terrifying thought is that none of them are immune, and being infected results in them being forced to travel and "help" others get their cutiemarks, resulting in more ponies getting infected...

I love the path you chose for Starlight, having her use her cutie mark removal spell in order to try and save ponies, but she's overworked and conflicted over the trauma of her past using it. Very clever and interesting.
Although now I'm thinking about what if the princesses were infected. I'm thinking like a Nightmare Moon vs Daybreaker struggle, but with Luna and Celestia, aware of their states and heartbroken at what they're doing, and their constantly trying to fight the infection while also struggling for dominance over having their celestial body in the sky. I'm thinking because if this, we see the sun and moon occupying the sky at the same time, like in that one episode "Princess Twlight Sparkle Part 1".
the world would be a continuous eclipse. their cutie marks letting neither of them give up their time in the sky. forcing them to keep both the moon and the sun high in the sky and slowly draining their energy and magic.

I mean, we don't know what her infection would be, since a spiraly sun thing is fairly ambiguous, so perhaps it's about being mysterious.
I imagine that Discord f-ed something up 1,000 years ago, but it affected the zebras first. But then, Zecora accidentally infected Apple Bloom, who spread it to the other Apples, who then dispersed the disease through their crops, infecting all of Ponyville.

I have a question, how would this disease interact with ponies who don’t have cutie marks yet? Are they immune? Do they get hyper fixated on finding their mark? I have to imagine that if they’re immune, there would be a huge amount of ponies who are too scared to do anything, just in case they’re to good at it and they get a mark. I can only imagine the nightmare the Cutie Mark Crusaders would be in this universe.
Children would be immune. Also since the CMC help people understand their cutie marks and lives rather than help them get them they wouldn’t be a huge issue
What if the non-marked have the illness but it will be docile and seemingly like theyre not infected but as soon as they receive the marks, the illness multifold it strength and instantly take control, skipping multiple stage and went to taking control instantly @@octoinkz

Wonder how it affects Crystal ponies? They seem to be kind of reflective in their coats and stuff, so maybe they have some kind of difference in how they're affected. Like, instead of veins, they get crystal growths that spread from their cutie marks instead. Even more morbid if they're growths from underneath the skin, leading to bleeding that further spreads infection vectors. They could also have an onset of slow paralysis, their bodies "crystallizing" until they become like statues.
What about the reformed Changelings? They could be part of the AU, Thorax and the changelings could be part of the rescue efforts or the quarantine efforts since they don't have marks and wouldn't be an infection vector. They could be kind of like the guards for the communities that are uninfected, or be searchers for ponies that are. Maybe like first responders that help care for the infected until Starlight can come get them. Lots of possibilities.
I liked the quarantining celestia idea, but what I like better is the implication of what Discord is doing. Like, why wouldn't he be looking for fluttershy or using his phenomenal chaos powers to help capture more volatile infected? The answer? He got his early self's wish to take over equestria... but in the worst way possible. Celestia and Luna both caught the bug, or because of it can't come out of their quarantine zones to raise the sun and moon. Think about it, most scenes involve them being outside to raise the sun or moon, which would be a big no-no since they might be exposed to the disease. So while they're basically forced to hide out so they can manage government affairs and try to handle the crisis in clean, sterile white rooms, Discord is taking care of the courts and having to raise the sun and moon, which we've seen him able to do before. Cadence has already been shown to really not have the firepower to be able to pull that feat off.
Moreover, how would the cold climate of the crystal empire affect the disease? If we really wanted to get scary, then the snow and ice could make it even worse, basically preserving the disease on ice until some hapless victim accidentally tracks it into the empire and thaws it.
I like the idea of cadence being a survivor and shining armor being an infectee. Cadence basically having to spend most or all her time trying to care for shining armor, while Shining was infected by the prior mentioned means while reinforcing a barrier to quarantine ponies, and now the entire crystal empire is cut off from the rest of the world because he can't stop keeping a massive barrier up around the city. Everyone there is trapped with each other, no outside food or water, and starlight can't get in to help the ponies there because of the barrier.

The barrier idea is terrifying… the only real way out would be to either let Shining die. Or to hope that curing Twilight could give them a magical being able to break through the shield… perhaps they would have to request help from the Changlings, in order to help Twilight, so they could help the Empire. Or maybe, they would have to cure the mane six in general, they can do some crazy things when they’re together… I both love and hate this idea.
If I may, shining armor has a shield as a cute mark and while im not entire sure what it means [haven't watched the show in ages] it could be a cool way to use that as like if he only wants to protect Cadence or the others so he maintains the barrier up no matter proving that since his cutie mark is a shield, he keeps everyone trapped inside while keeping help out unintentionally?
Gotta say, while your AU is still dark and depressing, it's not as terrifying to look at like almost all other infection AUs. Good job! 😁

Maybe after Starlight Glimmer can also make ponies effectively immune by taking their cutie marks before they're even infected, since (as I understand it) no cutie mark = no infection. Also, what about the princesses? How would CMWD affect them, or the crystal ponies? Oh, also also, maybe the cured/immune/uninfected ponies would end up staying at Celestia's palace to keep them safe from those that can't be cured, or maybe with the changelings since they'd be effectively immune too.

this AU is awesome! i always thought it would be cool to give mlp characters infected abilities based on their cutie marks, so this is great. also, as a biology person, i'd like to talk about chronic wasting. chronic wasting is a prionic disease, so it can form inside of a victim's brain, possibly meaning your disease could randomly infect new targets, making it spread super quickly. additionally, "infected zones" could be an interesting idea, because wasting disease in the real world can remain in the environment for years until another victim shows up. chronic wasting disease is, finally, known for eventually stopping the victim from moving by breaking their motor control, and since most infected ponies have broken bones and tons of bruises, there could be some ponies that have been infected so long that they can't move from all the damage. this might not make sense, but i imagine that pinkie pie would act a bit like two in bfdi tpot 9, where she just randomly teleports around, destroys everything around her with her chaos powers, makes someone disappear never to be seen again, and leaves. i'd also like to ask in this verse, what's going on with the other alicorns, and where's discord? also, why hasn't discord cured fluttershy yet, because that would usually be the first thing he did in this sort of situation.

I just found these today and I absolutely love this au.
Theres been a Grimdark story about there being a pony settlement in the Everfree Forest that thought cutie marks were a plague and you could possibly incorporate something like that in the lore.
Also, I feel like this virus could eventually mutate. Or mutate by being tampered with by some ponies trying to find an alternate solution than having their special talent removed so those more violent or missing could be saved. This mutation could affect other creatures like Discord or the Crystal Ponies(since they are considered a different species of pony)
It could even end up infecting Hypogriffs and Griffins. Since every sentient creature has their own type of magic, it could possibly make that magic work overtime. Or it could amplify something ingrained into that species like Discord needing chaos to exist of a Griffin's greed for gold and money.
I think I noticed a plot hole. Spike went gem hunting with Rarity all the time, wouldn't he know where she was?

Yes, but not her exact location, especially if Rarity is constantly moving searching for more gems. Seeing how big, deep, and indefinite amount of paths there are in the gem cave, it would be damn near impossible to get to her without a tracking device, and even harder to actually get Rarity some help.
Pinkie is a lil out of character because we've seen her spin her neck around 360 multiple times and then just casually undo it with no injury. She's a bit of an eldritch being and a lot of AUs forget that, or completely ignore it. The idea is still interesting though.

To be honest considering Lyra’s and bon bon’s cutie marks, their probably gonna be saved so now I’m curious how it would look for someone who was infected, but cured. Like would they go back to normal or would they retain their injuries

@@thelizzievb I think for some they would, but others would never really stop. They wouldn’t have their cutie marks, but they would continue to do what they love. They got their mark doing it, so why would they stop? Some ponies might even lose their minds completely and despite being saved still act as if they were infected.
What if the ponies with cutie marks that correlate with medical care causes the infection to either
A. Actually help other infected ponies around with the cost of overworking themselves.
Or B. Causes them to attempt to “heal” themselves from the illness via home remedies and then poisoning themselves by mistake, or ripping out chunks of flesh by trying to get the vines off
What if they were trying to help, but a combination of exhaustion and fever causes them to get sloppy. Maybe they start trying to "fix" things that aren't broken, such as amputating, transplanting, or grafting. Of course this kills the patient due to lack of anesthetic, infection, or inevitable mistakes.
The way you describe pinkie’s infection reminds me about the “A Deformative dance” scene from Suspira 2018 :)
things you could do:
wait for applejacks legs to break completely
watch for rainbows and have something to break rainbow dashes fall when her wings break
gather a large majority of the animals in the area to lure fluttershy
gather lots of rare gems to lore rarity
have lots of immune ponies laugh to lore pinky pie, then keep her down with magic
and last which is the most risky have the equestrian girls twilight(since she's not technically a pony she might be immune) come to hold back whatever you want to use to catch OG Twilight
Theres heaps i can think of fpr background ponies. DJ pon-3 would be constantly playing music, so she could probably be cured pretty easily, not really needing to go anywhere to do that. I feel like derpy could be immune ( i have no viable reasoning for this, i just want the adorable mare to be ok). And i feel like pinkie could be pretty easy to get and hold in one place, at least hypothetically. Just... Laugh. If she tries to make you laugh, just do it. If she's been trying to make people laugh, just laugh and she'll probably lock onto you because your the only one to laugh at her anymore. And to get her to stop hurting herself through the overexertion, just ask her to tell a joke, then laugh at it, and repeat the process until starlight can fix her. Maybe even use reverse psychology and say it would be hilarious if her cutie mark got removed by Starlight. Applejack would be another easy one to cure i feel like, if her legs are broken and shes psychically exhausted, shes got to be slow, right? She would also be at the farm 24/7, so you wouldn't need to look for her much. I feel like the changelings would be unaffected, not having cutie marks and all unless there transformed into someone, but they'd probably starve without ponies love to eat

One thought I've had since the first video: if Spike goes with Rarity when she's hunting for jewels, would he not check the usual spots he's gone to with her? They know the disease goes off your talen, and thats hers, so he would naturally look for her there right?
I also feel like Zecora would eventually find/see Fluttershy, since Zecora does live in the forest. I don't think she'd be able to really help Shy, but if somepony comes around asking Zecora at some point she could give them a headstart.

Discord could be housing Noninfected ponys in his little choas realm, and could have a little section in it that looks like ponyvill [idk how to spell it]
The changlings and chrysalis [don't know how to spell her name] could be immune due to not having a cutiemark, and one changling could have a similar personality to twilight whose actively trying to find what caused the disease
[I don't know many villians, maybe the dazzlings could find a way to come back idk]
There could be a few safe houses too
Also, Tirek could be helping Starlight by taking the magic of infected ponies.
It makes me wonder if Celestia and Luna might end up becoming Nightmare Moon and Daybreaker, just from the compulsion to constantly have their respective celestial body raised, or maybe they’re immune to most of the effects of the disease in a roundabout way? Like if they both have the sun and moon in the sky separately, does that mean that their compulsions are fulfilled and they’re able to focus on other things?

The mane six designs are all super good, and I love the designs on spike and Starlight.
One thing that I really want to highlight here is Starlight's staff. It was shown that Starlight doesn't even need the staff to remove cutie marks, but I love your inclusion of it, because strangly enough, I think that its a way of motivation for Starlight. Yes, it is a way of major despair or trauma for her, but when she wants to give up, the staff is a reminder to her that she is possibly one of the only ones capable of doing it. Its both a major blessing and curse all the same, like a whole other cutie mark that she must use all the time.
I may have just overanalyzed this, but even so, im so happy to see such a thoughtful and show-accurate infection au! Thank you, and have a nice day today! :D

Thank you for making it so that Spike isnt infected. I kinda hate it in fan works when fans disregard canon and logic just for a hypothetical scenario like this.
I like the idea that someone like pinkie pie being infected, since her talent relies on social perception, would theoretically be much easier to treat. Granted I’m not an mlp fan so I wouldn’t know the specifics, but I can imagine her being desperate for the approval of others, and only recoiling from a cure if the cutie mark virus has self preservation instincts. An interesting conflict between wanting to be liked and make other people laugh and the instincts of a virus to persist and spread.
If there is one criticism I have is that you keep saying "I'm trying to find the way of making this the most dangerous" but just... Why ? Why does the illness goes the dangerous sense ? Is it sentient ? Because if the goal is to kill/make ponies go missing, how does it spread ? Is it some sort of magical bio-weapon made to wipe out the pony race ? Is it the work of an unseen villain ? Because, as the logical fact that illnesses generally work in a way to be contagious to continue to spread, this illness seems to not be very good at that. What if, instead of only compelling the ponies to do stuff related to their talent, they want to SHOW their talents, making them seek populated areas to perform in front of crowds to spread the disease.

I think a great way to spread it wouldn't be based on to kill or harm to begin with. Just like the idea of using the episode when Applebloom gets loads of cuties. But it's not just Applebloom who gets infected first, but also Zecora unknowingly. Sure Zecora finds out Applebloom has made the potion but finds out too late which ingredients are actually used. For this au, I was thinking how far it could reach and I thought it would be hard to hit Zecora, unless it started in the Everfree Forest because of Applebloom's potion experiment.
The infection is very slow acting since it is based on the talents.
Maybe even Zecora try to get the main six for help but infected them because she didn't understand at first what this disease was until too late. Maybe making more of the potions because she can't stop, so might make more infection on accident as well
I’d like to imagine discord would be a major player here. Either he isn’t infected, allowing him to possibly cure the infection all together if he really tried. Or option 2, he gets infected himself. Maybe apple bloom could be some source of the disease, and when discord stumbles upon her, the hundreds of cutie marks entangle them, becoming the “mother” of the virus. This could also make it so they later fuse with other characters later on.
I think this is my favorite infected AU that I've seen. Mostly because it doesn't rely as heavily on the whole gore aspect that other AUs I've seen do. It's such an interesting concept!
Now it seriously makes me wonder about how it'd affect the Doctor Ponies, or those of the Royal Guard. Or that of the other princesses, like Celestia, Luna, and Cadence!
I think at a certain point thered be a group of blank flanks that are working to help people around them. Maybe one of them gets a cutie mark helping people with the virus and somethinf with them (like their magic concetrated or biology) could be used to help cure ponies.
I think Discord will be a MVP because of his chaos magic we see him change stuff and ger rid of stuff and if Fluttershy got the Cutie Mark Wasting Disease he would help.
Okay three ideas, idea 1 the CMC also get infected and due to their cutie marks being to help ponies with their talents there’d be forced to do whatever the ponies near them do by say gathering stuff or doing the same task, idea 2 Big Mac is immune like Starlight and Spike and is seriously worried about his infected family, idea 3 the young six mostly non-ponies also help as they two wouldn’t be affected except Sandbar but he’d be like Starlight and Big Mac because we actually never learn what his special talent is.
I get where your coming from but the CMC’s special talents are specifically to help others find their special talents. They wouldn’t do what the ponies near them do, they’d probably try to find fillys with no cutie mark and ‘help’ them find their special talent and get their cutie mark. Honestly it would probably result in a bunch of fillys who didn’t even have a cutie mark one day and then the next day they would have the disease.

My idea for this AU is how the infection starts, when a pony is first infected they start talking about their talent and how love it or feel the need to do it stage 2 showing signs of extreme anxiety when not doing their talent (pacing and tugging on hair) then to make the virus go into full effects the anxiety is so bad they act of their talent and stage 3 they cant stop
I like that this feels more like a dark au of an episode, showing worse consequences without a happy ending. But the concept would work perfectly. I really hope to see more
Imagine the effects this kind of disease would have on fillys. Kids wouldn’t want to get their cutie marks anymore, so they would literally never do anything, and with most of the adults being sick, children would be left alone in their houses for weeks on end with no one willing or able to take care of them.
Starlight was removing ponies’ cutie marks, but this time, to make them immune to the disease, including Celestia, Luna, Cadence, Shining Armor, and Flurry Heart.

I love this idea a lot for an infection au. I feel so bad for the mane six, Starlight and Spike. Poor Starlight needs more moral support like say Trixie or Maud (who could be the only uninfected Pie). Honestly could see Trixie being 'cured' and not having her cutie mark since Starlight wouldn't want to see her friend suffer from the disease

I had a fun thought for the CMC if they have their marks. They could be unintentional hyper-spreaders. If their destiny is to help others find their marks, perhaps they all fixate on that but none of them realise they're playing right into the infection's wants. By focusing on getting others their marks, they're only spreading it further and further beyond Starlight's control, unintended though it may be. Not sure about Sunset Shimmer but it would be nice to see her involved too. Either as a help to Starlight or somehow carrying it to the human world after a visit to see what's going on (assuming Starlight hasn't gotten to Twilight's book to warn Sunset prior).

Speaking of Shining Armor... his talent is protecting people, right? Imagine if he cast a protection spell around himself/someone he cared about and physically could not let them go. Not even when they got hungry, or thirsty, or started running out of oxygen. And Cadence's talent is matchmaking, with her passion being spreading love; I could see her becoming a brutal dictator in the Crystal Empire after being infected, using her magic to force ponies into being loving and friendly with one another all the time like the world's largest and most messed up dollhouse.
I’m loving this I hope you draw the other princess’s along with shining armor, since I’d love to see how their doing in this but if not that’s fine, great work and looking forward to this au’s story if/when you make one

perhaps show some ponies post cure, really see how it effects them mentally and psychically. also when i see these aus i always like to think about how my oc family would handle it. astro (unicorn) and his daughter nightlight (pegasus blank flank) would have gotten to a shelther where astro would try to help find a permant cure. Nightguard (unicorn) is a royal guard with her talent being combatting those who threaten the weak so she would be out fighting literally anything that her cutie mark sees as a possible threat. petal dance (earth pony astro's big sister) is a ballet dancer who wouldnt be able to stop her performances tearing away are her hooves.

I feel the CMC would be in exile. The fear of the virus and what it does would make those that don't have their cutie marks not want their cutie marks. It would also be interesting to find out the virus does with those who don't have their cutie marks yet. Are they ticking time bombs? Does it make them get their marks early?
I feel like pinkie is THE MOST dangerous, yes twilight is a lost cause but pinkie is not just really energetic and literally bouncing off the walls she is KNOWN for breaking the fourth wall, knowing things that she relatively shouldn't, and her tingling like her tail she could literally SENSE IF ANYONE NEAR HER idk how but she does have the tail tingle why not if anyone is near her? Something I’d been wondering is how this disease affect the Changlings. As first I thought this would make them immune since y’know they don’t have cutie marks, but I had an idea. What if while they transform say one of them becomes Twilight or something, if they get infected while transformed they are physically stuck as that pony and cannot change back. And what transforming into a pony for a long period of time was draining and made them constantly exhausted and even more in a state of starvation until they eventually die? They don’t have to die obviously lol I do think it’s a unique idea and something to consider.
Edit: Or instead of that, if they get infected somehow then they’re constantly changing without being able to control it. Meaning they can’t really get any rest or do much of anything.
I just realized that Boba Star /my ponysona/ would be dangerous cause her talent is making teas for other ponies and finding stars, so she would make infected teas for people and would constantly fly around destroying or finding stars! So she would 1: like shatter the stars and get really burned and like destroy the sky 2: be a main spreader of the disease cause of her making teas, also she wouldn’t really be able to be helped cause either ponys get infected by drinking her teas or /even though she has no horn, she does have some kind of connection or star power/ so they would get burned or injured!
You have any ideas for the other princesses? Luna, Celestia, Cadence? As well as Shining Armor and Flurryheart? I also think seeing how the other races of Equestria are treating the outbreak would be interesting. Even if it's not something they can catch, they'd probably still be taking precautions as a "just in case" thing. I've yet to see one of these that goes into how other races are faring during these horrible events, so it could be an interesting thing to explore, at least in my opinion.

okok idea: starlight finds the book twilight uses to communicate with sunset shimmer in the equestria girls world and BEGS her to come and help. what will happen after that? no idea. maybe the equestria girls mane six come and have to try and save everything. maybe they don't even have cutie marks when they go into their pony form because they never got them when they were human?

Here some ideas for the background ponies
Nurse Redheart:Due to the cutie mark disease Nurse Red Heart has to double her work due to all the ponies with disease she has caused her a lot of stress due to because of the amount of pressure due to seeing ponies she once knew dropping dead ,and the amount of ponies depending on her to like save their family members and friends
Derpy:Derpy is on look out duty to see if ponies are infected and if they are she writes it down and write it down to letters all around due to this it causes her to be really tried due to doing this 24/7.
DJ Pon-3:Dj Pon-3 is one of the infected ponies due to her love for music the incarceration has caused to play her music all the time this cause her go deaf the sound of the music playing and making her very tired because she playing her music all the time causing her be in pain like the other infected ponies.
“Bon Bon”:Due to her being a spy I imagine she tries to solve why caused cutie mark disease and when Celstia wasn’t infected infected then she had send mail to her so Celstia would get the info about it and tell the non ponies this but because Celstia had gotten infected she become a safer trying to make sure ponies know what to due when ponies get infected.
So, I was thinking about this, and one idea came to mind, completely out of the blue:
Zecora.
She'd probably be immune, but... What if she can still carry it, due to being extremely similar to a pony?
What if she's been infected this whole time, and then she accidentally infected Apple Bloom, who spread it to the rest of the Apple family, who would go on to infect Ponyville?
She does actually have a Cutie Mark, but its meaning is left ambiguous. Perhaps it has something to do with being magically mysterious?
And, here's a pretty out there idea:
Cutie Mark Wasting Disease wiped out the zebras. Perhaps Zecora was fleeing the disease, or possibly just was already infected and, because of her mysterious nature, she just vanished into the Everfree Forest. What if, once all this takes off, she just vanishes again?
Another concept I thought of is about Tirek.
He could work with Starlight and Spike, and take the magic of infected ponies, making Starlight's job easier. But, of course, he's a pretty disagreeable guy, so it wouldn't be easy working with him.
One last thing.
Where's Discord?
I imagine that he probably f-ed something up 1000 years ago, and it's only been a problem for the zebras until recently.
There are a few ideas for what is happening with him:
1, he's part of the Resistance in some way. (That's what I'm calling the group that's helping Starlight and Spike.)
2, he's only trying to help Fluttershy. (All you FlutterCord shippers, this one's for you.)
3, he actually only rarely helps anyone. (This is due to his unpredictable and chaotic nature.)
4, he disappeared. (Because why not?)

It took under an hour but im fully obsessed with the mlp infection au trend now... im about to go to bed and ngl my dreams are about to be crazy-
I think that if celestia or Luna got infected..DOOMED,EVERYONE IS DOOMED. Unless they get discord involved,maybe he’s a last-stand kind of guy here. He would be the only one could save the princesses,and maybe twilight. Also I wonder what the villans are up to,if they are unfrozen I think they’d just leave equestria,like “nope,this is such a mess..I’m out.” I don’t know where they’d go,maybe the human realm?
Also what are the CMC up to? Maybe their working with starlight to find ponies with no cutie mark and bring them to a safe place,where she could remove their cutie marks before they can get infected.
In my headcanon, Cutie Pox is like Chicken Pox in the way that you become completely immune if you get it once. So I think that they could fix this whole thing by infecting the uninfected ponies with Cutie Pox and then curing them so that they become immune to Cutie Mark Wasting Disease.
Definitely wanna see some others dealing with the disease, like what about the little ponies? Or other siblings or family members, other fan favorite characters, who is infected or who is immune or fighting to avoid getting infected. There is a lot of potential for this series and I definitely wanna hear about it, this is the most unique one I've seen
I feel like Pinkie or applejack might be the easiest ones to cure if pinkie tries to make you laugh then do it she will be focused on you while starlight trys to cure her applejack she would not be hard to find maybe using magic will help detain her and get cured by starlight in my option rarity is medium level to cure because she cant be found but theres a possibility she can be cured because Spike is helping starlight and Rarity normally takes spike for finding gems normally so spike will lead starlight the way to Rarity.Zecora might help Fluttershy idk Twilight and Rainbow dash are the hardest ones to cure with Twilight doing magic everywhere she might hit starlight or spike but Tirek might help unless the infection finds a way to get her magic back Rainbow dash Might be detained with magic at the perfect timing but it has to be just perfect
Though I could also see that the mane 6 and the CMC were the first infected and thus couldn't be to cured because, the disease could possibly continue as long as there is flesh on their bones.
I.e They were already DEAD by the time Starlight realized she could cure them.
Only way to put them to rest? Burning their bodies.
Rarity and Fluttershy would be the easiest. With starlight burning Fluttershy, by targeting an animal instead *Fluttershy's cutiemark would choose the animal's life over it's own*.
While SPIKE would be forced to burn rarity's remains.
Maybe reveal that the infection DID affect spike but in a slightly different way, not a bad way though. Like he can hear the voices of those who are already cleansed with the fires.
So after he burns Rarity's body he can hear her speak to him reassuring him to continue, and not regret his actions.
Next on difficulty would be Applejack and Rainbow due to their strength and speed.
While the final two would be Pinkie and Twilight.

While I would love to see some villians, I just don't think there are that many pony ones. Cause this disease is done through Cutie Marks, that cuts like 70% of the villians since they aren't ponies. Chrysalis is a maybe, since she can fake a Cutie Mark with her disguises, but other than that, no other non pony villian. That leaves Tempest Shadow, Daybreaker, Nightmare Moon, and Cozy Glow. I might be forgetting some others, but those 4 are the most prominent. Aside from maybe Trixie if she still had the Alicorn Amulet.
It's really just Tempest left, even though she's sort of reformed. Daybreaker and Nightmare Moon are just Celestia and Luna is they snapped and turned evil, and Cozy Glow is a stone statue.
I do wonder if this would affect Zecora. She's not a pony but she does have a mark on her flanks (not sure if its a cutie mark or just her natural striping.)

I think that anyone without a cutie mark is completely immune, like changlings. So there could be a ton of allies for starlight, that could potentially help her? I’m pretty sure changlings can perform magic, and others have special abilities, so would this happen in it?
I have to say, your infection AU, and the Cough, are my favorite tragic MLP AUs! Not jumpscary. Not too grimdark. A perfect kind of AU.

Wouldn't Discord be able to detain everypony? Like he can just teleport to them whenever even if he doesn't know where they are. Like he teams up to help Starlight and Spike. Like he is powerful he's just sometimes too cocky which limits him.
i must say reframing starlight's cutiemark removal spell as something that can be used for good (in this case healing/immunizing ponies) is pretty clever
I feel like Pinkie's infection would rather be doing a lot of gymnastics and at the same time decorating and making parties
