- The passive voice in Spanish is already hard enough, then you have the passive voice with SE in Spanish. In this lesson I'll teach you how to use the Spanish Passive Voice and when to use it in Spanish and we'll compare the Passive voice and the active voice in Spanish and then we'll compare it again with the passive SE.

Ah - Porque yo mismo aprendí español a través de Internet y leyendo blogs y libros en español, y nunca tuve profesores a quienes preguntar, por lo tanto, cuando noté por primera vez " Pasiva con SE" en las oraciones, me preguntaba la razón de su estructura. I understand completely the grammar and how the two methods are constructed.. In school we were taught if the subject was mentioned in the same sentence, we would use the passive form with to be+past participle. Example: Las joyas fueron robadas por Juan. If the subject (or agent) was not in the sentence, we would say Se robaron las joyas. So please clarify under what circumstances we would say Las joyas fueron robadas. Thanks and keep up the good work!

Lo siento Rahul, no sé si entiendo bien tu pregunta. ¿Creo que quieres decir la diferencia entre "Ella ha comido la comida" - y - "la comida ha sido comida"? Básicamente la voz pasiva funciona de la misma manera, debemos reemplazar el verbo con el verbo SER en el tiempo verbal de la oración activa y poner el verbo principal de la oración activa en el participo concordando el género y número con el objeto de la oración activa que ahora es el sujeto de la oración pasiva. Tal vez lo que tú quieres saber es cuándo usar el pretérito vs el pretérito perfecto compuesto. Hice un video con la explicación aquí: ruclips.net/video/FUD2m0IQUUM/видео.html

Russian has a similar construction to the passive 'se'. Similar form even - the verb takes a suffix -sya.

Hoy, la profesora Brenda grabó un vídeo sobre la voz pasiva y la voz pasiva con SE. Este vídeo fue filmado para explicar varias formas de usar la voz pasiva. Puede simplemente dije "se grabó el vídeo".

I would argue that impersonal passive "pasiva con SE" exists in English and it is a grammar form introduced by impersonal subject "IT"- It is said that..../ It is believed that...An odd thing, as a Spanish learner I have found in some books information that "voz pasiva can be sometimes formed with the verb ESTAR" but in grammar books written in Spanish I cannot find any examples of such usage, only and mostly examples with the verb SER, so maybe a nice follow-up video for more adavanced students would be a video explaining when and in what contexts, if ever, la voz pasiva with the verb ESTAR can be used.
En sueco tenemos un sistema bastante similar al sistema español, es decir, tenemos dos maneras de expresar la voz pasiva; una con "-s" al final del verbo, y otra que muchas veces se construye con el verbo que en sueco corresponde al verbo español "ser". La diferencia semantica entre las dos construcciónes también es bastante similar a la diferencia entre la dos construcciónes pasivas en el español 🤓

I don't know how many times while learning Spanish I've said to myself, "Why? Why? Why?" This time it's, "Why do they have two passive cases?" The "se" passive is an example of how bizarre Spanish is to me. In Spanish, objects sometimes do things that in a literal sense they can't do (like "me gusta"). Here we have a house selling itself, jewels stealing themselves, books publishing themselves, and keys losing themselves. Every time I hear the "se" passive voice, always I have to remember what it's *really* saying.

¡Gracias por la pregunta Edgar! it's interesting because we can use the same passive voice with SE for both cases "se perdió la llave' because if we think about it for the key to be currently missing, someone had to have lost it in the first place, but if we want to be more specific we can say for 'the key was lost' >> se perdió la llave, but if you refer here that it was lost but now it's found then we can say 'se había perdido la llave'. And for 'the key is lost' we can say 'Se ha perdido la llave. I'd use the present perfect here because it's an action that started in the past (we lost the key) and continues to the moment of speaking (the key is still missing). I hope it makes sense.

Gracias por la clase pero tengo una pregunta..puedo usar se o fue en la voz passivo es darnos el mismo significado o differente?
el significado es el mismo, pero es más común en español usar la pasiva con SE, sobretodo en la expresión oral. La voz pasiva se usa si se quiere decir quien lo hizo, por ejemplo: el Quijote fue escrito por Cervantes.

@@HolaSpanish I think people get confused about this because the grammar doesn't quite make sense the way it's explained.
Yes, "La casa fue vendida." literally means the house was sold, and it's in the passive voice...
.... but I think that "se vendio la casa." Is not actually grammatically in the passive voice.
I think it means the same as "La casa se vendio", with just a different word order for emphasis.
And so in this sentence, "La casa" is the subject, not the object. Therefore the sentence is in the active voice and it literally means "the house sold itself" (or "had itself be sold" or something like that), although when you translate it into English, you have to use the passive voice for it to make sense as a translation.
@@HolaSpanish ...And the reason I think that is because with the se passive, the verb agrees with the noun. Since verbs agree with the subject of the sentence and not the object, La casa must be the subject of the sentence and not the object. Therefore, the se passive must actually be grammatically in the active voice
