The term racism has changed over the last 20 years or so. It was primarily about skin colour for the most part, but has grown arm.s and legs , so nowadays to disagree with someone who is different to you, can be classed as racist. Even lgbtq+@%++ want to be classed as a race. It's all crazy now.

I've been completely unaware of Audrey's story until now (how did I miss it?), and its terrible how she's been treated. They say politics is a dirty business and her experience bears this out, but there are some people who get involved for the right reasons and she's clearly one of them. Glasgow is better off having representatives like Audrey Dempsey, the city needs more like her.
These places used to exist everywhere, they were called community centres. It's something I've seen throughout my career as a community worker and saddens me how far support for really vulnerable people has just been removed 😢

I used to frequent the cafe on the top floor of the city chambers ( of course not the silver service councillors private dining room ) and on the way in on the notice board was a big sign ARE YOU BLACK it loudly said, so being me I read it, but it was open to black people only offering a days course on being black, how to spot and react to “ racism “ but you got your full days wage, a free lunch and travel time and expenses. And they tell us there’s no racism.

I think many people go into politics for the right reasons but, once there, they realise that their role is simply to toe the party line and vote the way they are told to by those at the top of the organisation and they have very little scope to even represent their own constituents, far less hold any influence. Unfortunately, the vast majority seem content to accept that and the ones who cannot stomach it don't stand for re-election. In effect, your local council is run by a handful of senior councillors - usually those who have a specific brief and, if they do not have the appropriate expertise to carry out that brief competently, then bad decisions are made.

Over twenty years ago I was involved in a situation where police were called to investigate a ""racist"" incident. I ran a Neighbourhood Watch at the time. I informed police that the factual case was the absolute opposite to that which had been reported, and that I had witnesses to that fact...I then requested police to go back to the complainant and have a quiet word as ""racism"" works both ways and this person was indeed liable to be in trouble for exactly that. That policeman's face was priceless...he had presumably given no thought to the fact that ""racism"" is a two way street, and always will be.

I think many people go into politics for the right reasons but, once there, they realise that their role is simply to toe the party line and vote the way they are told to by those at the top of the organisation and they have very little scope to even represent their own constituents, far less hold any influence. Unfortunately, the vast majority seem content to accept that and the ones who cannot stomach it don't stand for re-election.
In effect, your local council is run by a handful of senior councillors - usually those who have a specific brief and, if they do not have the appropriate expertise to carry out that brief competently, then bad decisions are made.

I think the concept of racism by politicians is to make us think only white can be racist against colour.
Over twenty years ago I was involved in a situation where police were called to investigate a ""racist"" incident. I ran a Neighbourhood Watch at the time. I informed police that the factual case was the absolute opposite to that which had been reported, and that I had witnesses to that fact...I then requested police to go back to the complainant and have a quiet word as ""racism"" works both ways and this person was indeed liable to be in trouble for exactly that. That policeman's face was priceless...he had presumably given no thought to the fact that ""racism"" is a two way street, and always will be.

People don’t have as many kids because they’ll most likely be brought up in the very poverty Audrey is talking about. Glasgow, is the third largest city in the UK after London and Birmingham, which are both now minority ethnic Brits. We’re the next big city that’s gonna get destroyed by forced incompatible multiculturalism.

Eye-opening, sadly highlighting the divisiveness of our political system. Personally, I think that Holyrood has failed and we need a vote to see if this experiment continues. Council elections should not allow parties to participate, it should be the person NOT the party you vote for requiring more voter participation. The only way to give real power to the people.
