  • In this episode we snug up a loose wheel bearing on the front right wheel on a 94 Suzuki Sidekick with manual locking hubs. recorded this 2 years or so ago, noticed my camera work has got significantly better since then, but this will hopefully be helpful. thanks for watching 👍

On old fashioned wheel bearings the axle nut was just a wee bit over hand tight. Early Samurai's were like that. On my 94 Geo Tracker there is a special wheel nut socket and you torque to 125 foot pounds and then tighten just enough more to get the screw holes in the locking plate to line up. It's usually about 150 foot pounds. The hammer and punch method is not recommended.

Yes you are 100% correct 👍, another viewer had mentioned that in the comments awhile back and I did some investigating and found I had done that part wrong and have learned from my mistake. I pinned your comment in hopes that someone else does not make the same mistake . Thanks for the comment stating the proper torque specs to help me and others out , and thanks for watching 👍

Just checking not sure for this year but doesn’t this model,s wheel bearing torque spec for Suzuki
I know it sounds crazy but manual says 150-180 ft lbs torque. ,
Did u check with the Suzuki manual. Different kind of bearing setup in these
Single race two bearings. And spec is to crank it up tight. I’m just wanting to check mine and trying to figure this stuff out mine is a 1997 4 dr. So much confusing info thanks. I need to know lol.

Thanks for leaving a comment, I do not have a service manual for the sidekick, (Wish I did lol), I've done wheel bearings on older gm stuff and was always taught and read just snug up and not to over tighten, so just went ahead and did this the same . But after reading your comment , first thought was no way that seems really high lol but after doing a Google search and read a few forms quickly it seems like they are suposto be torqued to ( lowest I seen) 90 - 180 f-lb , so your manual is probably correct and I'm looking like I'm wrong on how tight I said to go ( but that seems pretty tight ) but I would follow the manual it should be correct . I'm going to look into it abit more myself but I'll probably be getting back into mine and making them tighter now , and checking them after a drive to make sure they are not heating up . In your case I would torque to the 150 according to your manual , and then go tighter if needed to get the retainer (plate with the screws/tab back in) . If I read anything stating anything different I'll let you know. Thank-you for pointing this out , and other than torque spec I hope the video helped abit , and hopefully you enjoy some of my other videos as well. I hope this response helped abit , And thanks for watching 👍
