    I have this SRK SK5 knife. It is a great knife for camping and bushcraft due to its good edge retention. I had been using it since i was a boy scout until now.

    My first SRK is quite old made with AUS8 steel and just received a new one with SK5 steel as a birthday gift. No disappointments at all.

    I stripped the black coating off my srk. Wasn't all that easy. That coating is hell to take off!!!! But I absolutely love the way it looks now.

      @@williamdougie6213 some spray on paint stripper. Can't remember the name. But it's a damn task to get that coating all the way off. Took many coats and a lotta scrubbing

    I have SRK-C i personally like that model better. The C doesn't have a hollow grind.
    Im thinking about getting the SRK-C in 3v its $89 at midway . They have very good prices in the US.
    We called those wonder bar a crowbar is the round heavy duty one. Love those wonder bars they even make a very small one.

      That is a great price for the SRK-C 3V. Definitely worth getting. I love 3V!

    Hey JC, nice video as always but I was wondering: what are the knife brands that goes really strong where you live?

    • @urbanknifeguy
      @urbanknifeguy  9 месяцев назад +1

      Do you mean go strong as in are popular or last long? For fixed blades, most popular would be Morakniv. Probably lasts long enough too. Other popular brands are Cold Steel, Lion Steel and maybe Buck (but I think their popularity has dropped over the years). For folders, a lot of the Chinese brands like We Knives, Civivi and QSP. And of course Victorinox and Leatherman if you count multitools.

    Tactical.. not primarily utilitarian.. its blade configuration takes into account it is also a fighting combat knife..

    For me, the primary purpose of this knife is as a pig sticker. Other tools and knives for other purposes. This thing is meant for penetration. A sharp swedge screams let me in! I have the san mai version.

    Is the Cold Steel SRK SK5 for Urban or Wilderness Survival? Yes. The correct answer is yes. I still prefer my Carbon V version, but the SK5 version is fine, too.

    First of all SRK originally means Search & Rescue Knife. I think it's more outdoor because it's to big for urban at least in my country and big parts of Europe. Take that out of your backpack or the crowbar and people are calling the police or they come anyway because there's cameras everywhere. The knife will be considered a weapon and the crowbar a burglars tool so it will raise questions from the police and people and that's not 'gray man' tactics.

    Great there is a Southeast Asian review! Always see reviews from western countries where the climate is more temperate and not tropical like these parts.
    So why choose this and not a parang?

    • @urbanknifeguy
      @urbanknifeguy  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks! I do use a parang as part of my standard 3-Knife System ruclips.net/video/dDmLkhmDPgI/видео.html
      But I'm always trying out knives! Thanks!

    I wish I would have got one when it was available in aus8-a steel, I got a SOG northwest ranger II instead for my bug out bag, it should be adequate for my needs since I would have difficulty leaving the city in a disaster.
    Survival Lilly used the aus8-a version of the SRK as her main knife for years.
    My greatest fear in SHTF is being stuck on this island (Montreal, Canada) with two million mostly unprepared people, there in not much of a preparedness culture here since the three most recent disasters are the flash flood of july 1987 which just flooded a thousand basements and one person died on The Decarie expressway, not from drowning but a heart attack, then the ice storm of january 1998 where the power was cut for 3 days here but on the south shore some areas were without power for a month, then the 16 inch (40 cm) snowfall on december 27th 2012 which is far from a disaster, just a major inconvenience.

    • @urbanknifeguy
      @urbanknifeguy  9 месяцев назад

      I think aus8 doesn't have that great edge retention IMO. I think it cost is not an option, I think the 3V version is the best all-round urban or general survival knife. Thanks for your comment and sharing your concern!
