Hi - Did you ever find a solution for this? I have the same deck and a very similar problem. The FF REW work, and PLAY will also engage if I manually move the control mechanism into the right position, but after using any of the controls it reverts to just motor spinning with heads disenegaged. Not belts, idler tyres or gears - allOK and when playing sounds great and stable and carries on until stopped. I think the conrol mechansm needs adjusting to a "zero" point whereby all the positions will engage in the right sequence, but there's nothing in the service manual for that! Any clues would be very helpful! Cheers.
