  • It's so easy to add voice recognition into your next project. This video will show you two ways you can add Amazon Echo or the Alexa Voice Service to a Raspberry Pi.
    In a later video I'll show you how to integrate it into something useful, for example: "Turn off the outside lights".

    Sorry everyone. The gag wasn't as good as I had wanted it to be. MAL42's voice is waaaay too quiet and I rushed the editing.
    Sigh.

    LOLz at the opening gag... If you want a bit of informational fun, use the following string instead. sudo apt-get install upgrade -v This uses the verbose function and you get a lot more of a display when it's installing. While it isn't something the less geeky of us will appreciate, those of us who are ubergeeks will appreciate it. As a side note, one can also install Android and use the google app which works much the same way with far less manual configuration. For those who don't want to muck about with it, this is a decent alternative option.

    Mick, I like your videos and have been following you for sometime now.
    1. Was curious to know if Alexa could be trained to answer specific questions, as in, train it to answer specific questions related to a particular subject (with predefined answers)???
    2. Also is there an open source alternative to Aexa Voice Service???

    • @MickMake
      @MickMake  8 лет назад +1

      Thanks for that!
      In answer to your questions:
      1. The Alexa API is fairly extensive so you can get it to do a fair amount, but you won't be able to get it to do things like "If the outside lights are off, then turn the heater on.".... Yet... I understand that they are constantly updating the API, so who knows what will happen.
      2. There are several commercial alternatives, (smartwatches.org/learn/amazon-echo-alternatives/), but there's also mycroft.ai/ which is an open source, (but closed hardware), platform and of course Google's home.google.com/
      But I guess what you are looking for is this: arjo129.github.io/uSpeech/ which claims to have better speech recognition than Siri and doesn't require an Internet connection and runs on an Arduino UNO!
      I plan on doing a video HOWTO on this soon.

    • @MickMake
      @MickMake  8 лет назад

      Haven't seen that one before. Seems to be still in beta though, and only for windows at this stage.
      Personally I'd like to have something that can run on an SBC without too much overhead. It makes it very portable then. Even better if it doesn't require an internet connection, but YMMV with the recognition quality.
      But Jarvis does look promising.

    So is there anyway to make the the "Hey Alexa" work instead of a button?

    • @MickMake
      @MickMake  8 лет назад +1

      +Mrcaffinebean
      Yes, I would look at running a local voice to text app that would constantly scan for that phrase and once found would send the audio stream directly to AVS.

    Hi sir, while installing "java" got an error that "./install-java8.sh: command not found" can you tell me the solution
    and how to enter the iD in config

    • @MickMake
      @MickMake  8 лет назад

      Did you enter the correct folder/directory?
      If you are getting that error then you might not be in the correct directory.
      Have a look at around 06:22 to see this.
      As for the ID in the config file. You can use any editor. There will be a GUI text editor you can use if you aren't familiar with the console editors.

      A nice young chap at Jcar put me onto you, he explained to me there was this old guy doing how to stuff. Most of the stuff you look at is beyond my pea sized brain. I just hope the young ones work out that being interested in what you show is VERY important. Sadly the way this place is geared people would rather watch a pool full of Coca Cola than something where they make and learn stuff. There used to be a sweet spot on this place, it was back around 2009. But these days RUclips is a vastly different place. So twisted by advertising and BIG names sneaking into all sorts of videos. I wonder where GoPro would be without the advent of RUclips or Coke without a silly pool video.
