Just a matter of time before Ukraine surrenders, no way it can withstand this pressure from Russia.
Paul, have you thought about having a live discussion with a Russian military blogger. keeeping it civil, and talking only military tactics?
I think it would be fascinating to listen to / watch.
1 you can't be sure if this is the main axis of attack yet. 2 the point of a new front is a new front. Manpower issues means Ukraine is already spread thin. If they don't reinforce and Russia commits a large force then Russia will eat up a large part of Kharkiv. If Ukraine does reinforce they are pulling people and equipment from other parts of the line. Screwed either way.
You shouldn't have bought into the daily casualty figures. If they were losing that many men and that much equipment they wouldn't have 400 tanks, 800 IFVs/APCs and 50,000 troops to commit to a new offensive.
@@jasonschnelle110 I don’t see a contradiction. The Russians have huge stores of older equipment and nobody knows how usable it all is so if they find a few hundred extra that shouldn’t be a surprise.
And a lot of the casualties are people Russia does not value anyway.
@@MrScandinavioHe won't even take out any normal military blogger, he is like Deny Denis.
Maybe it is to open up a north front to force Ukraine to send man power north thus allowing the real push down south to occur much easier. Their objection is the thin out Ukraine line, not to take the city
that won't happen. Russia is just a joke.
With pooter's track record of failed "feints" such as Kiev, Sumy, Kharkiv & Kherson I doubt even putinists would be dumb enough to try another one 😎
yes and no. Ukraine would have had to station troops there anyway to guard against a russian attack. Russia is using troops to attack better prepared and defendable ukrainian positions, troops it could have used to support the push down south. If russia wastes that manpower while ukraine is able to takes the least amount of casualties then ukrainian lines will not be thined out.
Essentially, they're working towards a seige of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk as well as Kharkiv, which would allow Putin to claim at least a bare minimum decisive victory. He wants Odessa too but I can't see that happening.
Would make sense if they’re trying to take and hold the entire coastline, but that’s not currently feasible… unless something has changed?
Ukraine is already desperately short of men, so the opening of any additional front will be catastrophic. If Ukraine doesn’t redeploy a lot of manpower to the north then the Russians will easily be able to take high ground and cross water. The larger the additional frontal area the more troops Ukraine has to redeploy. I can see the logic.
They're creating a buffer zone and plan to use that lake as flank cover.
Exactly, it’s not really that difficult to see that if people are paying attention to how they move west of Adivika
Yes Paul the tool isn’t very knowledgeable….I doubt he was in the military
@@ivanfiorani1363 He was in the military, but only served at lower levels (platoon or company). I have noticed he does seem to lack the analysis ability that an officer of higher rank with combat experience would have.
@@nicholasconder4703 and also he is bias and a spinner
40k russians is not enough to create a buffer. ukraine is dug in with 15-20k troops. russia needed 15 to 1 numbers to make the small gains they did in south over 7 months when ukraine was low on ammo.

I don't know why this should be a surprise!? There were numerous reports that Russia was building up forces there.
Can you share those reports, please?
The question before they started that front was “Do the Russians feel confident enough with their available manpower and supplies to open another front?” The answer turned out to be yes. Are they correct? I guess we will see how it plays out.
The big surprise might be why they didn't do this on May 9th, Russian Victory Day. Maybe someone high up in the Russian Army forgot to check his reminders yesterday...

Wonder what the troop numbers are in that region( in the rear, reserve not deployed). Also what the supply chain supporting that drive looks like. That would give a clue towards what the reasoning is.

THIS IS a job for F16s . ..the new Warthog.....
Yes, the aircraft designed in the 1960s will come to the rescue. Take a look, Russia has all the wonder weapons. The F16 won't last 5 minutes in Ukraine, just like the Patriots and the M1 tanks.
where is the f-16? Do you still believe that they will appear in the ranks of the Ukrainian army?😂

russia has been talking about a buffer zone. now the exact distance they have said has varied - depending on where. but its to stop artillery strikes by ukraine on places in russia or cities in the donbas the russians hold. they have been shelling donetsk for ages, now belgorod has been taking fire. push as many kms as needed to outrange most artillery. numbers of pieces of equipment and estimates of manpower is way too low to "take kharkiv"
Not that much of a surprise. Podcasts on RUclips were reporting a build up of troops across the border from Kharkiv a fortnight ago.
5:50 If you knew why they attack like that, you would be a general, not a veteran.
Ukraine did say they are expecting an attack from that direction, because troops were getting amassed for a month or so, so I'm not surprised. The vector of the attack does seem pretty dumb though.
Is this the surprise attack announced since February?
from what i saw reported it was 3 russian bmp and an mtlb that crossed the border and video shows them burning after getting hit by artillery. to me thats not an invasion of kharkiv by russia. its just russian canon fodder probing.
when you see the russians bring out golf carts, thats when you should realize its serious because all the tanks and bmp have been destroyed.
Hmmm, they just moved thousands of pieces of equipment to the frontline just this week, including 600 tanks. And another couple hundred thousand troops as well.
@@allenhartley6078 And they just lost 314 trying to take, and failing to take, a few fields west of Avdiivka. Over a thousand orcs per day on average are being removed from their gene sewer.
@@feoxorus aww bless , keep believing the CIA LOL
@feoxorus the only ones losing a thousand troops a day are Ukraine. Why do you think they are using a draft system and releasing prisoners if they go to the frontlines and fight. Ukraine has no ammo left to kill anyone anymore. And Russia just leveled the heavily fortified airfield that was going to be used for the F16's last night, killing hundreds of Ukraine soldiers and all their equipment.
@feoxorus can't reply as they don't like the actual facts. Many military sites out there with real video and data evidence, not a commenter with zero war experience opinions.

And Ukraine is falling for the ultimatum
Surprise attack? I'd call it more like a diversion. Something else is cooking there.
Yah.
They ll be in Odessa next week
its called russian zerg of territory before ukraine gets artillery ammo. problem is the artillery ammo arrived.
You gotta remember Paul: the land itself may not be worth much, but the resources underneath it are. Lots of minerals, lots of oil in eastern Ukraine.
I don't think they have the time or need for oil
@@andreimareilie9108 They're thinking about AFTER the war . . .
@Roonasaur Yea I guess it makes sense but we already decoupled from Russian oil and we do need to transition away from fossil fuels so depending on how long this war lasts oil might not be so important. Minerals it depends what kind but it might not matter that much.
@@Roonasaur As if Russia hasn't enough ressources already, especially Oil-Ressources. Russia has so much ressources and potential to be a great country, instead they use these ressources for their military to occupy more land for even more ressources. Its not a surprise if it was predicted a month ago. And the fact that they did it the day after victory day. When fresh troops would have the highest moral is not only predictable, but laughably so.
you can't make a surprise attack that everyone has been waiting for for at least half a year
Not to mention the fact it's already been confirmed the US has tapped russian communications lmao. No doubt they told Ukraine about the build up.
Perhaps it's an extension of the "Russia as the new Rome" theme. They want to re-enact Varus' campaign in the Teutoburg Forest.
Thanks for this, Paul!
Did you ever ask yourself "maybe I'm just not that good at tactical thinking?".
You’re so confused what they’re doing. It’s called pushing the line
But Russia has the secret weapon, that one remaining working T-34. It's an incredible upgrade on the golf carts.
it's funny that Russia has been resisting all possible NATO equipment with golf carts and missiles from washing machines for 2 years, and even has the initiative
@@TT-bi8tyYeah, NATO has been running dangerously low on old surplus equipment. If this keeps going, they may have to restart production and even send Ukraine equipment that was manufactured during this century.
@@Keldor314 your irony looks ridiculous, considering that all countries combined could not give Ukraine even half of the promised artillery, and half of the NATO countries are now saying that they were left unarmed because of supplies to Ukraine
@@TT-bi8ty Oh, I agree that NATO is, in general, not taking the war very seriously. In fact, as an American, I'd say our contribution can be best described as "half-assed". I mean, really, a couple dozen Himars systems, a couple hundred tanks and other armored vehicles, one or two Patriot systems, and various artillary and small arms? Against the entire Russian military?
But maybe the strategy is to give Ukraine just enough to hold off Russia until Putin gives up and goes home. If Putin were to ever actually be *overthrown*, we'd be looking at the potential for civil war in Russia, which, given the number of nuclear weapons scattered around, is really not in anyone's best interest.
Comments I have heard in the news here is that this attack may be a reconnesence in force and that the major attack may still be to come.
