I love hearing Francis tell stories. none of this discussion is news to me because I've listened to his commentary over the film many times and it's terrific if you ever get to chance to hear it.
I would imagine making this movie would be a frightening experience. They scare me too and I'm only half Italian hahaha. Too bad the evil depicted wasn't more of a deterrent to the recruitment of the hundreds of criminals that came after. But then Americans unfortunately always seemed to have a sick love affair with crime. Anyway, it must have been a blast working with Mr Brando, he was an interesting, intelligent, funny person and a very creative actor. I also love a person that stands up for what they believe in especially when it's not an easy course to take. I loved his movies and the interviews. I'm glad you chose Al Pacino for the role of Michael he was perfect as well, great call on both! Of course now I don't think anyone could picture any other actors playing these characters. It was a great film. The place in time, staging, and mood were on point as well.
I wish this interview had gone on for three more hours. I love "The Godfather" to the point of idolatry. If Coppola had done nothing else he would still be one of the greatest directors of all time.
I always thought of Coppola as a Renaissance artist. He was miserable working for Hollywood studios the same as Michelangelo was miserable working for the Vatican, and wasn't particularly interested in the job he accepted for money...But he made the Sixtine Chappel of movies under those circumstances.

Amazing to listen to
This was a great interview with an iconic director. Well done!

I’m watching the offer right now. I’ve been taking little research breaks to make the experience a little richer
