It's to do with State-Based-Actions- The 3 damage will go on the Goyf and then SBA will check the graveyard to see how big the Goyf is, in this case it will be a 3/4 and will survive the bolt. I have no idea how it works with copied spells though, but I'd imagine it's the same.

Quick question - if Calcano's Abrupt Decay got rid of Reid's enchantment at the 30:00 minute mark or so, why was Doran still killed by the Lightning Bolt? Doesn't the bolt need the enchantment to deal enough damage to Doran to kill it?
The ascension triggers when the lightning bolt was cast, creating the second bolt. By the time Abrupt Decay was cast, there were already two bolts on the stack.

The bolt would put an extra card type in the graveyard and make the Tarmogoyf a 3/4 so it wouldn't end up dying.

Does SBA not wait until the hard-copy of the card resolve? Honestly have no idea, I'll look into it tomorrow
