@@winslowwhite4003 You're the one that's a fool. Many people had tvs in the 1950s. Even the tv dinner was first invented in 1954. Most homes in the 1950s had one tv in each home.

The first lady had a lot of complaints. Didn’t know where the bottle opener was. Said that the soda wasn’t cold. And wanted a glass to pour it in. 😂

I knew a lady whose husband worked with movie stars. She showed me pictures of a party (daytime) she was at and I saw Groucho Marx in the background and asked her about it him. She said "I will NEVER speak a word about THAT man, that disgusting man!"
She said Harpo was at the party also and played games with the kids and such. She said that Harpo was always a gentleman and was loved by everybody, "unlike that certain brother of his"
I really wanted to know the whole Groucho story but I knew I better just leave it alone.

As for not recognizing Harpo, I think most folks don't think they'd ever see anyone so famous during their daily life routines. And remember, the last Marx Brothers film was Love Happy in 1949, that's eleven years ago at the time of this Candid Camera stunt. There were no 24-hour TV channels showing old movies, videos, or DVDs that are common nowadays.

This was Arthur Godfrey's first attempt to return to tv on a regular basis..as Mr.Funt's co-host..the pairing didn't work out and..Mr.Godfrey soon left the series.
