The soba part was edited in such a funny way, lol. The "behind the scenes" of the Kabuki theater was amazing, hands down one of the best videos of vlogmas.
Wow that theater was so interesting! So many people involved in doing things like changing the sets and lifting the actors! Also you look so pretty in that kimono but I was worried for you walking down those ladders haha
I absolutely love how much Japanese people pay such close attention to detail. Even down to the sound of the curtain moving so the audience knows where to look. Great vlog as always, Sharla!
I love how the theater is just as complex as you'd expect an old Shakespearean theater to be. Pullies, stage machinery, well planned design...it's really cool!
Wow! I'm very surprised you visited Izushi! My parents are from there and I go there every year, but it is not the most famous tourist spot in Kansai, even among Japanese people.
@@sharlainjapan Yeah it's a beautiful town, but it's a little town and maybe not suitable as a main destination. Many people visit there when they also visit Kinosaki as you did:)
@@ttkoeda9954 It's also important not to spoil a small town with hordes of people and the traffic jam to get there. For example, Korankei is gorgeous in autumn but the insane flood of people and cars does not improve its charm. This is the difficulty of tourism--the balance of retaining the charm of a place while increasing the number of visitors. Instagrammers have polluted so many destinations now.
That kimono you wore was beautiful! I loved learning about the kabuki theater, the guide was so knowledgeable and it was super interesting! Hope you're enjoying your winter, Sharla! Thanks so much for all the videos! :)
That manager sure knew his stuff! Fascinating to learn how much effort the unseen parts of a kabuki performance required with the elevators and rotating floor. :o
Thank you, Sharmander, for showing us this. I really like the Kabuki theater, that was amazing to learn how they could put on intricate shows using only simple technology like pulleys; a real contrast to how plays are put on nowadays. I really liked that area with the steps, it was so beautiful with the colors of the leaves surrounding the area. You look very good in your Kimono; I bet that was a lot of fun getting to wear it.
I fell in love with Edo period Japan as a kid, watching anime, like Samurai Champloo. It's such an interesting time period. I did so much research as a kid.
Thank you for that wonderful tour. That's why I love your channel you not only show me modern Japan, but show me the traditional ways of the culture. Even though I love seeing the sites and sounds of modern Japan. I think the ultimate vacation would be visiting the temples an shrines and staying in a place were I could experience the more cultural ways of Japan's past. May you, your friends and family have peace, love and joy this holiday season, Merry Christmas.
This christmas has been very stressful for my family due to a bad sickness my brother has. Thank you for uploading vlogmas and giving people like myself a little distraction from the stresses of the holidays for a little while. Love you!! 💖💖😭🎄🎄
All the best to you and your family. Treasure these moments you have even though they feel stressful; come what may, in the future you will look back on them with fondness. 🙏📿
I'm finding these videos I stumbled upon tonight a little bittersweet. It was my daughter's fondest wish to do exactly what these videos are portraying. Serious illness is very stressful for the whole family. I wish you peace and respite. Hopefully, you can find even small moments of the simplest joy to create memories with.
these videos always make me want to explore more and more of the world!!! Thank you so much for taking your time to make these videos and sharing with us while getting to enjoy so much of japan!
Wow, I envy your Japanese cultural experiences. Being Japanese American from California and Hawaii, we always have experienced bits and pieces of our parents heritage, but not lived it on a daily basis. Being retired now, we have a deeper desire to understand history and how it shaped our development.
wonderful to see the town in daylight so pretty, love the theatre so interesting in how backstage worked for the actors, have a beautiful day Sharla, Thank you x x
Thank you for sharing vlogmas with us this year! I am really enjoying it. The kabuki theater tour was so awesome. I love to tour old homes, buildings, and historic places.
Beautifully made, thank you Sharla - each one of these episodes have shown me a new place to visit in the future. On a more somber note, I know how difficult Christmas can be when you've had a traumatic year. I hope you have someone to talk to, and that you're making plans for next year. Reaching out to others is not a burden for them, it's a blessing, and they'll love you for it. Promise.
Im really loving these 'tour' videos. I would like to do my 2 years architecture apprenticeship in Japan as Japanese architecture fascinates me. So seeing these videos of different places i could visit on weekends is wonderful!
That was very interesting. An that guy was entertaining n fun explaining everything. Also your kimono was beautiful =). It was very flattering on you. Im loving all your vlogmas videos!
For the structure underneath the Kabuki Theatre, thankfully it is earthquake resistance especially for how old the building is and it's really cool to see how people nowadays still have great interests in watching them!! :D
Your travel segments for vlogmas this year are SO good! You’ve got me so inspired. I have been researching other towns to visit aside from Tokyo/Kyoto etc, this content is gold! I shall take the Sharla instructed tour of Japan, please and thank youuu xx
Love the Christmas vlogs Sharla. Ive only been to Japan once and stayed mainly in Tokyo, but your videos really inspire me to go back one day and venture further afield. So much to see of this beautiful country.
Wow, you look lovely in your kimono and new hairstyle! Love the tour of the playhouse and it was interesting learning about how things were back in the day.
loved the insight on the theater. Also, good job on the soba noodles - you know the old saying "practice makes perfect". I'm sure the teacher is an expert with years of experience.
That whole theatre part of the vlog was fascinating! Please do more types of these videos because I could listen to someone teach me random Japanese facts all day. Also, you always seem to get the kind tour guides. Or maybe there just isn’t any bad ones.
Wow! I've been to some old west style theaters in the USA that had that kind of rustic look and feel but obviously they aren't nearly as old and the allure of something far beyond your own country's history and culture is especially intriguing!
Such a beautiful place. I love the kimono you chose. It was very pretty. Learning about the theater was very interesting. It must of taken alot of ppl to run it. I bet the shows was awesome. Thank you for your vlogs. I always look forwards to experiencing Japan through your videos. Many blessings. 💚
As soon as I spotted that kimono design in the corner of the screen, I thought, "ohhh! Thats the one I would choose!". Then you chose that one!!! You have good taste! Haha! Very beautiful place and the theater was neat!
Sharla thank you I always enjoying learning about your culture or your chosen culture I should say😀 You look beautiful in your kimono! Hope you are enjoying your adventure❤💚❤💚
Probably Shinshu (today we call it Nagano) Soba is the most famous Soba in Japan. In Edo era, Tokugawa Shogunate assigned lord of Shinshu to Izushi. And the lord took some Soba masters with him on his moving because he liked soba very much. I learned this is how Izushi soba started. As you know mostly cold soba is served on zaru (bamboo sieve) but Izushi soba is served on a plate as shown on your vlog. They call it Sara-Soba, not Zaru-Soba. Actually the plates are from local pottery, Izushi-Yaki. Thank you for visiting Hyogo prefecture.

The thought "Izushi" means "Izu City" (Izu-shi, 伊豆市) crossed my mind, but it turned out to be "Izushi City" (Izushi-shi, 出石市) 😂 I've visited there only in MOMOTETSU series of video games, but this place actually looks beautiful.
sharla i didn't know u made a vlog in izushi!!!! izushi is where i did my homestay the first time i ever went to japan, so it's an important place for me
I remember the first video I watched from your channel was the wagashi video where you also worn a kimono, you look so pretty wearing kimonos my eyes are extremely blessed :D

It’s interesting. Actually I didn’t know Izushi till now, I’m Japanese though. Izushi seems to have a long long history, which was founded in the 4th century. I’ve decided to go there for sightseeing.
The man explaining how the kabuki theatre worked was super interresting (:
I learned so much from him!! :)

That Kimono pattern you chose looks so nice, especially with red tree leaves in the background.

the soba teacher was keeping an eye on you every step of the way haha. The place looks awesome!
Goodness all these japanese towns are so so gorgeous. I can't wait to live there someday ♡
