yes.... When I just got mine and I read the directions, I was being so careful and only pushing slowly one or two times....FAIL! You got to "kick that mule" !
Here’s how i got mine to work for the first time. I filled the filter up all the way up through the blue and black screw connections until it started to spill out. Then i had the suction line open and discharge line shut. I plugged in the filter. I pushed the damn primer hard six times then opened the discharge briefly then shut it. Pushed the primer hard again six times and then opened and shut the discharge valve. I repeated this and by the fourth time water started to flow a little. Two more repeats of this and finally had a flow. The instructions suck and it did not work that way for me at all. Pushing the primer like i meant it also didn’t work but the above procedure finally convinced this piece of crap to work. I hope this pays off and does a better job than that stupid penguin HOB filter i had before this canister. That was a piece of shit and the bio wheel stopped turning after three weeks.
Will u record a video showing the sound level of the filter running? I have tried my best and my filter still runs @55-60 dB and @48dB from outside the cabinet. People often says “silent” but I found many people had same concerns as I did. So a true experience and sound video from some existing and experienced user like you would be a good reference for people like me. Thanks!
Hero Great, I recorded a short video for you to just hear how little noise these filters make. I have listened to the video a few times and it is really hard to hear it at all. In fact, in the new video as you watch about the only thing you will hear is my knee cracking as I bend down. There is just no noise to hear. ruclips.net/video/CigG33Vw2mw/видео.html
here is another video ruclips.net/video/CigG33Vw2mw/видео.html There is just nothing to hear.... I think in this video all you hear me me moving and breathing The filter is on, its running, and stuff...but there is no trapped air in the pump or any garbage in the pump blade to cause any noise.....
I just installed a new Cascade 1000. I'm finding it noisy, I did get all of the air trapped out by shaking the canister multiple times but still too loud in my opinion. From your experience with these filters did you notice a break in period? Did it quiet down after some time running?
a suggestion: When I work on the filter I always also do a water change. But this does cause me to suck a bit of air into the pump,,and that will make noise. To get rid of the air, what i do is run a garden house (that I use to fill water into the tank) and run it into the sucking hose for the pump filter.. This kinda will force out the trapped air in the lines to the pump as well as the pump itself... most of the time, this gets rid of the air and the noise it might cause...
I have given your question some more thought. Im still convinced that you got to have some trapped air in the blades. this is common,, I also always have a bit of noise too as the pump is turned on. I work on getting rid of the air and that gets rid of the noise. If the problem is not trapped air? Then Im not sure what it might be??? I guess there is a chance the pump's propeller is out of line??? Or there is a little stone of something stuck in the blades of the propeller? I think it has to be air....thats a common issue and its an easy fix
@@AlanMolstad Hi, thx for the help. No air trapped, just a bit on the noisier side as far as canisters go I think but for the cost 100% worth it and small sacrifice to pay. It is working flawlessly and all I did was cover it with a blanket in the cabinet and it significantly cut down the noise. Im quite happy with the performance!
I could only take a wild guess that at some place there is a way for air to get into the lines or the filter? Now....what i would do if I saw air blowing into the fish take out of the outflow hose is.... I would confirm that the sucking hose is still in a good position, and that there is no trapped air in the line as it runs to the filter. Next I would take the top pump off and confirm that it is seated again as it should, and that the locking clamps are able to lock and not bind on something hidden. Next I would check where the two water lines enter the top of the pump. I would check to make sure they are clamped tight so no air can get sucked into the pump at the connection. Next, I would make sure there is no sign of a water leak on the floor that might tell me the plastic of the filter is cracked. Next I would check the outflow hose line all the way back to the fish tank to make sure there are no cracks. next..... after I turned on the pump I would work the top pump plunger a n]bunch to make sure I get rid of all the trapped air that is always stuck at the top of the filter when you clean it...
Like it owes you money! EXAMPLE: There was a lady from Seattle that wrote to me and she was not able to get her pump going. She sent me a video showing how she pumped the pump. She was going WAY-WAY too slow. So I made her a video where I talk about how she needs to really work that pump to get it to go. She reported that once she really worked the pump it got going as designed.
@@AlanMolstad I found the priming button to be completely useless, no matter how hard or fast I pressed it. The only thing that got the canister to start for me was to unscrew the intake tubing from the intake, fill the intake tube with water via a watering can, screw the intake hose back onto the intake and then started the canister...
@@L0GANTP I once gave the advice for someone who simply could not get the pump stuff to work, to use a garden hose and FORCE the water into the filter...
Thank you! Demonstrating how hard to pump did the trick after two hours of trying things. Push it like you wanna break it 🤪

Keep pumping till you think you can’t pump no more.. I thought I was doing it wrong and I finally got it going..
I just connect everything open the valve let gravity do the rest once its filled I plug it in no need for priming

But, give me a sec....I will record a video and upload it...and then come back and tell you when its up
