Regardless of what many say about maverick city… the year I got saved and was struggling finding Christian music I could always listen to, I found Mav City back in 2021
A necessary conversation. Very insightful. There is always criticism and uncomfortableness when something is not the norm. Sometimes God wants us to be uncomfortable and go into spaces where others aren’t prepared to go.
Loved the nuanced conversation! Sorry for commenting so many times 😂 Ruslan did a great job facilitating this and asking the right questions. All of you were professional, gracious, yet honest and transparent. Looking forward to more dialogue.
Every time I watch the videos where everyone is just in the room singing I literally think to myself “How can I get into that room!?” Spot on you guys bravo 🙌🏽
Ever since I first heard Jireh in 2020 it touched my soul and it has carved a place in my heart that will stay there until I go to Jesus. It pulled me out of such a dark time and showed me the love and the God that I know now. It was for sure written by God. Even now 4 years later just writing this thinking about it almost brings me to tears. Thank you for your beautiful blessed music.
So what I heard was: Maverick City view themselves as disruptors of the mainstream Christian music industry as regards racial diversity. They don’t feel it’s their place to disrupt the traditional Christian music industry model as far as spiritual accountability. They feel unfairly singled out about this. Maverick city set out to be a community of racially mixed musicians from mixed christian backgrounds who make christian music that ‘makes you want to be in the room with them’. My take is, If God can use anyone and anything, (and he does) He uses folks like this for His own purposes regardless of their personal lifestyles or commitment to Christian values. Like Paul said as long as the gospel is preached. Ultimately, the individuals behind these labels, artists, promoters, publishers etc must work out their own salvation. In the best case scenario some of them will come to care enough about their audiences to see their jobs as not just the business of creating great christian records, but ministry. For many, of them it may end up being a case of, “Lord, Lord, didn’t we cast out demons in Your name?” So in a crazy twist we the consumers of this content actually need to pray for THEM! Our responsibility, for those who understand and are concerned - is to educate our communities that these performing artists are just that-performers, like the man on the right said they cannot confirm that their artists follow the christian lifestyle or that the music is biblically sound. Ironically Kirk Franklin was on a mission to teach Mav City to learn to become artists over being just ministers 😭
1:33:31 - 1:33:47 I feel Ruslan gave that example of Migos ft Mav City, that unfortunately you guys seem to passively agree on here.... but it's not seen in practice. You guys are adverse to a Migos ft. Mav City, or even just the issue of putting your name to a secular thing (like what you guys get heated bout with the Will Smith misinfo).... but then, you guys are completely fine featuring yourselves on a Glorilla project??? Where her entire content on that EXPLICIT album is complete hedonism and sin???? Make it make sense, cuz there's a double standard here... I understand the song itself isnt unholy or anything, but the argument that youre "witnessing" to Glorilla's fanbase by being on the album falls flat, because you're also redirecting YOUR fanbase to HER entire project, in the appearing tab on DSPs. Don't you see how that could be a bad influence for young listeners who look at your profile?? It's (almost) cosigning everything on her project! I'd say Ruslan did a great job interviewing with tough questions to clear up the air, especially with the Dante stuff that was way overdue in clearing up on. Props to you guys for atleast speaking clearly and beautifully on keeping the gospel central to your music, which I agree and support. But I think I see a deeper issue of maybe pride?... I feel like these convictions and boundaries are getting slowly pushed in the wrong direction, especially with this laughing off a Migos collab (as if you'd never do that), and then going on an explicit album like Glorilla's. I do see what you guys are tryna do here, I'm open-minded, and I'm praying for yall... but where does it stop? This is a slippery slope my brothers in Christ... Ima leave this here with grace, pls dont take this the wrong way: James 4:4-6
We understand where you are coming from, but in that context we meant jumping on a general mainstream Migos song. Quavo made a song honoring God and his brother, and we participated. Same with Glorilla (Glory Hallelujah); she made a gospel song, and we participated. Should Jesus not have gone in certain rooms because his followers may have followed Him there and been badly influenced? Or by walking in those rooms, did he show His disciples and others we are meant to go to the sick and heal--wherever that may be. I know people overuse the 99 for the 1, but you do not just disciple and evangelize around believers or in places comfortable for other Christians.
I understand both points clearly. My question is who did Jesus surround Himself with? Was it the rich or murders, adulterer, thieves and so on. I'm not supporting unclean music, but God says go everywhere and preach the gospel. If I have to go to the clubs and jump with them with my Bible in my hand telling them about God. I am going. If I have to go to the crack house to reach someone to bring them to God I am going. Anywhere God sent you, you have to go.
The problem here is disobedience and compromise. The Bible says ‘be holy’ and ‘set apart’. You don’t need to collaborate with an artist that clearly stands opposed to Christ to win them to His kingdom. The argument you made of Jesus eating with sinners is weak and a bad comparison. A fairer comparison would be Jesus allowing them to join in on his sermon on the mount or any of the apostles giving their platform or sharing a platform with those that are not promoting the gospel. With love guys, this has to stop. If I want to reach my work colleague, I don’t need to go to the club with them to do that. I can have a coffee or take them for lunch or meet them in a place or a gathering that does not compromise my reputation as an ambassador for Christ. So let’s stop using that argument to justify reaching the lost. Since you have access to these high profile celebrities, invite them for food, a bbq, a basketball game, your kids birthday party, but don’t let them preach on your pulpit. And you do have a pulpit, we all have one as believers and we must honor it. You don’t need to confuse young believers and you getting all the backlash because your artist and compromising. Let the church be the church again. Let’s be set apart and win people by Gods light shining through us and our good works. Let’s not hurt the body of Christ and confuse the saints. I do think that we as the church can be quick to judge before understanding and I appreciate this video and your heart to clear things up and help us to understand but we need to rise up and be the church that reaches the lost without compromising our holiness and hurting the body of Christ
@@jkkaagya1at the end of the day, it’s a money play. I wish people were just more honest about that - Jesus definitely mingled with sinners but He told them to “go and sin no more”. He didn’t preach with them on pulpits and endorse the hedonistic lifestyles that they promoted. Collabing with glorilla is to introduce themselves to a fan base who occasionally listens to gospel
@ brother I think you’re right but it’s a shame that we do that as believers. We have to go back to seeking Gods kingdom first and trusting him to prosper us, not compromising to get money
Hey I get it. It’s hard. Life is hard. Obedience is hard. Perseverance is hard. God help us every second, minute, hour, day, month, year 🙏🏼 Glory to Him ❤
Been a fan of Christian Hip Hop for 20 years and came across Ruslan when he was part of The Breax. One thing I learnt about Ruslan is he knows how to pivot and learn, that's why he's grown so much.
Such a wholesome conversation and so helpful to understand that we’re all walking this journey with the Lord and to give each other grace as we go, be there for one another and build up the Kingdom together 💛
I have to give my respect to Maverick City Music. When I first gave my life to Christ was shortly before they blew up. Still love a lot of those songs. Still listen to a lot of those songs. Ruslan is the man! Was cool to hear the backstory for this team.
first song I ever heard from Maverick City was "Welcome in this place" in 2019. Beautiful song then I went on to listen to a couple of more, still incredibly new at the time, I remember listening when they hadn't blown up yet and it was honestly great gatekeeping those bangers lol but I love all the songs they have truly been a blessing to my life. I think Ruslan's questions hit the nail right on the head, good in making sure to ask the right questions.
The Album "Old Church Basement" I still listen to regularly. Songs like, "Wait on You", "Jireh", and "Old Church Basement" are the full of the Spirit of God. They encourage, bless, and edify God. Not to mention "Mercy" and "Million Little Miracles." I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next.
1:18:00 That was the most damning defense I've ever heard. How Christian are you supposed to be in your career? Man, you are blessed to be in a career that can actively promote Jesus - as opposed to making pens or something you build worship music. How far do you extend your faith into your job? The language of "extend" is so unbelievably correct. It's like asking if God is the first, second, or third priority - but really, 1 Corinthians 10:31 "Whether you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." The unsettling part of this interview is refusing to answer questions as people, and strictly keeping to a legal defense. This is not Christian accountability, but secular success protocol. It seems the truth of the matter is worse than what it seemed from a distance.
As I listen to this interview (which is very much clearing things up for me), it seems as if the business model used opens up so many doors for the kingdom of God to be misrepresented because there is very little accountability.
I agree. I'm not judging them because I get it can be tough but they have to decide whether they're a business first or a ministry first. Based on what I've heard so far, they've prioritized business and I think this model will make them more susceptible to scandal which will muddy their witness for Christ. If they prioritized the ministry they would be more involved in the spiritual health of their artists. But this is not just them. This is the CCM in general. I pray they'll find their way and prioritize their witness and trust that all other things, including financial success, will be added unto them.
This Clears up so much I would really love to see guests like Pastor Steven Furtick Chandler Naomi Chris Brown (elevation) Dante and so on i would also love to hear more of the story of one of the biggest christian albums Old Church Basement i do really miss the 1971 recordings and how things were back then but change may be for the better (also maybe another collab with EW 🙏)
At the beginning when referencing their “code of conduct” and one of the men said “no no don’t apply that to TRIBL” I knew that they truly have their feet planted on both sides of the fence. They can’t distinguish that they are walking a fine line between being a part of the Kingdom and being a part of the world. It’s hard for a person to see from the optics where they land. And let me tell you… I love their music.
Tribl is a record label , Maverick City Music is a worship artist and ministry, the artist signed to Tribl are Christian artist we have a label relationship with but not a personal relationship with in all cases. There is a wcode of conduct would be for Maverick City music artist because that is the Artist and ministry we steward daily. Our feet are boldly planted on the side of Jesus and the point of clarification was made to be honest not to insinuate that we don't have a standard at Tribl but it simply isn't as explicit as the standard we set for the artist in Maverick City music given we have a deeper relationship with those artist.
The "gospel" song that Glorilla made that you all jumped on is not truly a gospel song - it is a song about an agreeable God that everyone can get behind. The entire rest of that album is filled with unrepentant sin that clearly shows who Glorilla believes to be "Father God". There is sexual immorality, cursing, and every other kind of worldliness that Jesus rebukes... so to agree to have the same God in a song together is confusing, to say the least. This is an opportunity, if anything, to share the TRUE gospel with her, and share the words of Jesus about the wrath of God to come against sinners (Psalm 7:11, Matthew 13, Romans 1, Hebrews 12, etc. ) and the love of Christ in saving from that ... but the problem is this is not what's happening behind closed doors here. The excuse being used over and over again to brush away doing this is that Jesus would go to dark places to seek sinners and would leave the 99 to find the 1 and that is TRUE... but not the way you all are using it. IF the goal is truly to build relationships/leave the 99 to seek the 1 like Christ, then you have to do part 2 of what Christ did - (call them to repent and believe, and follow Christ truly). He loved them enough to tell them the truth about the wrath of God AGAINST THEM he was going to take for them upon the cross in his love for them. This isn't happening or being told with this "strategy" we see in the industry, because they want to be agreeable, get streams, and get as many listeners as possible. We see these friendships with the world being built, but never reaching an evangelistic summit or any kind of progress that is scriptural or bold like the apostles were in Acts. At the end of the day, it's a beautiful thing to see such wonderful worship music being released, and I have worshiped alongside much of Mav's early music for years, it's been transformational to my walk with the Lord. But I'm saddened to see hardly any music in their catalog that shares the full gospel - basically no one in the industry does because it's not radio-worthy. It's not agreeable enough. Thank you maverick for opening up! But please consider in humility my words. This is the opinion of hundreds of others I know personally - entire churches feel this way and want to see a change.
Bro 9:20 you said that aren’t white ? There’s no race in the kingdom of God so already your intentions for a writing camp was deceitful and damaging to the body of Christ . That’s wild a Christian man of God would even fix his lips to say that was his intentions
Great conversation! Ruslan was an excellent choice for this interview. Listening to the leaders of Maverick provided much clarity to questions I've had about their ministry. I've always supported Maverick, and I always will. I'm sharing this interview with at least 100 people.
This was a dope conversation. Praying for Tribl executives & Maverick City Music! Keep going men of God. Keep doing the work of the kingdom. Period. Thanks Ruslan for being a great interviewer.
I don't usually comment on things, but dope convo. Love seeing Christian creators colab making good music and content, and having real talks like this. I think not only is there a lack of representation of good African American role models from "a-typical" routes (like sports), but also a general lack of Christian representation in dope things. I think lately though there's been Mav, Ruslan, and other people and groups like the Chosen across multiple industries reminding people that God is the original artist / creative. With this movement, hopefully, the world will start looking and getting inspiration from edifying and still good if not great art followers of God are producing like them Sistine Chapel days instead of the Body becoming less holy biting what the world does. Keep on and God bless.
Thankful for this next generation of Men of God. It is this generation that God will use to shock culture. So good putting faces to Maverick City. Praying for Maverick and Tribl. His Kingdom come and His will be done through them and their families🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️
Walking away from this liking maverick much less. Great saves but sounds like it’s a brand that wants to have their feet in many worlds and that don’t sit right with my spirit
Stop with pulling the race card. I'm a black woman and I don't think this has anything to do with a problem with "black wealth". That's the mental slavery showing. White as hell, John McArthur got criticized when his church bought him some crazy fancy watch stating it was too flashy. Steve Furtick gets criticized al the time for his entire wardrobe being too flashy. The point is that humility is a conveted virtue among the church and so when you're givig your money to church, there is the expectation that it'll be accepted with humility and not in flashy displays of wealth especially when the vast majority of those you are serving cannot even image reaching that level of success.
is it me or was a good portion focused on "diversity, identity, safe place, black, white" - not saying that's bad, but definitely some 🚩's antennas went up lol, cautiously optimistic - and a whole lot of justifying mixing light with darkness
This was good !! I agree it was needed to put a face behind Maverick .. it helped bring a level of humanity to it. As a consumer of the product I was looking at Maverick as an business, entity .. when really its just people trying to lead well . As someone whose big on transparency this was needed. So thank you !! At the root of it all it seems that their whole goal is building/ cultivating relationships and creating moments to bring Jesus in the center of it all. And major shoutout to Ruslan for facilitating this conversation so well .. and asking the questions we the people wanted and the ones we never would have thought to ask.
1:00:32 It feels really, really strange hearing both, "Your criticisms are absolutely warranted" and "We don't deserve any of that criticism" at the same time... Definitely grace because you didn't sign up to be a church, but undoubtedly you recognized within the first year that people look at you as leaders, role models. The same criticism Barney the Purple Dinosaur would get for partnering with a strip club for an episode would apply to you. If that criticism is warranted, people deserve an apology - not a defense. If it's not warranted, the people deserve a refutation, not pandering. You seem like nice and well-intentioned people, but the lack of responsibility/duty is really unsettling.
True, it is Worship music for me ! When I say Alexa play me some WORSHIP MUSIC.. Maverick is coming up on Top everytime.. I thank God for Yallll.. and I can say I've been to at least Five sold out Tours, plus ➕️ gifted tickets 🎟 to my kids and friends along with Just Volunteered here in Raleigh NC ❤🙌🏾🙏🏾
This was a great conversation! Definitely a great way to start with Ruslan as well. Hearing you guys and how you guys talk about motives and why you do it is inspiring and it’s not a question. You can tell you guys have kingdom minded hearts. Praying for yall 🙏🏿
As if the Bible doesn't talk about being fiscally responsible. Using "culture" as an excuse to be flashy is setting us back. A wise man leaves an inheritance for his grandchildren. Being rich isn't the problem, what you spend your money on shows what you value. A lake house is better than designer clothes and jewellery 😂
My question is - Chandler Moore had a secret child (at the time) in 2020, before he got married. Yet, it seems like he got to continue to minister, travel, tour and fully participate in the collective without being sat down, no statement, no distance, etc. I understand that Dante’s situation was public, but is it that the statement and distance was created to appease the public, or because you all truly believe in the members of the collective living holy lives unto God? If the latter, why was no corrective action or discipline taken in regards to Chandler? It seems a bit inconsistent……
1:29:50 I agree when he said sometimes proximity and seeing how people treat others can also lead them to Christ. I think there's this notion that if you don't use certain words or "preach" in THAT moment, then you're not ministering. God is love and sometimes you can be inspired to get closer to God by seeing how someone loves others. No matter their imperfections, I commend Mav City for trying their best to be a light in a dark world! I love Naomi Raine 🤎 I also met Chandler while running errands in Dallas and he was sooo kind. You can tell his heart is pure. I pray you all never get discouraged. We all have short comings, but it's easier to criticize others.
At the end of the day people just judge the team based on their frustrations to be honest cause why judge what you don’t know in deeper context even going further as calling it ungodly just because someone wears or dresses in someway when the main goal is to worship God.
I absolutely love the music and there is no doubt that many of the songs facilitate moments of worship but it is clear that the executive team isn’t prioritizing having artists whose lifestyles match what they sing. It is a little disappointing.
We appreciate the authenticity of this comment however it's the opposite of what was stated here. You see an executive team that never sought to create a music group that was underprepared for the amazing things God would do through the music we created. Doing everything in our power to fix the issues caused by the unforeseen success. Maverick city was never created to be an artist or church it was a publishing company but many of our supporters have no concept of what that means and so you attempt to give us a standard for operating that doesn't fit our original intent. It's clear God had a much larger plan for us than we had for ourselves so we are doing everything in our power to prioritize what is important to Christ as we move forward as an artist now.
@ Thank your for responding. Please know I value what all of you have brought to the worship space. It has enriched my life and walk with Christ so much.❤️❤️❤️ I understand how maybe you weren’t totally prepared for everything that eventually materialized from what your original intent was. I get it.🙏🏽However, listening to how some of the questions were answered, it still doesn’t seem like there is a clear priority on artists being accountable in how they live out their lives in light of who they sing about and serve. I will definitely go back and listen to this again because maybe I am missing it. Either way, thank you for your transparency. Thank you for creating music that in and of itself honors God. May we ALL (I include myself here) strive to walk in a way that strengthens our witness to others. Praying for you guys!!
Good morning I'm going to make a comment on your comment. Please understand what I am trying to say. There's no way to say how you are to look. God uses whoever He wants to bring His message across. God can use a person in ragged clothes to give you a message. And remember we are humans... filthy rags before Him.
@@kaliaedward9570 I want to be clear when I say that I understand that none of us will ever be perfect (and I don’t expect this from the Maverick City/Tribl collective)but there is definitely a standard we should strive to live by. God can and will use whomever He wants but there is a certain way we should live our lives before Him…..especially if we are leading people. This worship collective…whether they intended to be or not, are influencers and worship leaders. However, even if we (you, me, and anyone else who call themselves Jesus followers) never have thousands of people following us, we should desire to live holy before an audience of one…..our Heavenly Father.
This was a good conversation but it’s clear maverick is only about profiting off the name of Christ. And this is coming from who was their biggest supporters who went to all concerts . I’m happy to hear from their own mouths. I will still use the music as it was genuine when I was receiving them but I will not but going to another concert or supporting this movement that’s only use the name of the Lord to make money
What in this conversation brought you to this conclusion? Both Owners make it very clear the movement is about Jesus, Spreading the gospel, and helping ppl to pick up their Cross and follow Jesus. Transparently as successful businessmen Christian or Gospel music wouldn't be the Genre someone would choose if their sole desire was wealth
@ I heard nothing regarding the sole purpose being lifting the creators name high everything from start to end was about business and doing what’s best for business. Even pointing out that they try more to protect maverick but with tribl there’s no code of conduct anything can goes. We can’t serve two masters. I didn’t expect you to understand either as you who is replying to my message is apart of their payroll . The ppl who who they are targeting is looking here for spirit growth and authentic worship when it’s not that case by the executive which was said by them they selves. Be blessed
Exactly my thought haha. Platform they have adds a level of responsibility. If they don’t want that responsibility then don’t claim to be Christian. IMO. Y’all can disagree just my thoughts lol.
Thank you!!!! I love maverick city, but this is just not taking accountability. They're basically like everyone else. We thought they were so organic, so original. They just like errbody else
1:49:48 yeah yall are the most modestly dressed music people in the industry i’ve ever seen lol. Yall literally match the Mav City choir lol. I can tell yall got families lol
After listening to this whole 2 hour conversation, all I can think of is Jesus. Most of the time, he was either with His close friends/disciples, or he was hanging out with regular people. The “sick” people who “needed the healer.” To anyone who would listen, He taught them about the kingdom of God. He mostly led by example, saying only what the Father told Him to say. He called out the religious people for their sins more often than any others. We have to think about what that would really look like today. I think Mav City is doing an amazing job at bridging the gap between the Christian world which is honestly sometimes intimidating or simply uninviting to a regular person who doesn’t yet know Jesus. They are not perfect and will make mistakes and at the end of the day as Christians we can choose what we consume privately. Where you spend your time shows what you value most.
During Covid 2021, they came in clutch. I had their music truly playing all day every day. Maverick City prior to their fame was amazing The "struggling artist" version of themselves. You could feel the sincerity and humility in the songs. But, Once they blew up and started collaborating with Kirk Franklin and other secular artists, I haven't really seen them the same. Lots of compromise and carnality coming out.
That was an interesting conversation about race and how we culturally view and showcase wealth. I do think that us black people need to stop "wearing" our wealth. However I love the perspective of being an example that you can be Christian and attain a certain lifestyle while maintaining your dignity and still having principles. We do need more examples of that in our community!
1:38:25 I'm tired of Christians calling EVERTHING "demonic" too 😂 When I saw the Will Smith performance with Chandler, the fire and pit just looked like imagery. Will was supposed to be in a dark place and the song was about looking for the light. If Christians believe Hell is real then idk what people were offended about.
This is really cool to get to hear more about how Maverick city got started. I really like the story of o community first over production and output and wanting to have a bunch of different people with different experiences in the same space. I have a lot of respect for that. It is nice to hear their perspective on a lot of the collaborations. However I don’t understand why church attendance isn’t a requirement for being a part of a worship group and how they have no idea whether or not members attend church. I believe they ought to have members submit a statement or something from their pastor each year mentioning their involvement cause that’s incredibly important. Your worship can sound amazing but it falls on deaf ears to God if you as an individual singer have no relationship with God and attentiveness to the Holy Spirit. I still don’t know that it’s necessarily wise for them to collaborate with certain artists like glo rills, but I can respect them a bit more after hearing this conversation. And of course they do make amazing music!
Comments can be like a middle school gossip fest. Society is not at all better for them I never associated Maverick City with any not Christian values You are responsible gentlemen. Keep praying. I think you are blessed and blessings. 77 year old grandma.
Thank you guys for honouring what God has put in your hearts We love you we ,pray for wisdom in this journey you are in. May the kingdom of God come on earth as it is in heaven. As you continue reaching out to the market square around the world 🌎 🙏🏾❤
@@TRIBL thanks to you, l believe its our duty as the body of Christ to stand in the gap for you guys in prayer. Where seeds are being sown challenges will always come but greater is he who makes us overcome. 🙏🏽❤
While I'm glad to see this conversation happen it's revealing how when ministry becomes business it's very problematic. In every area of our lives there has to be a clear distinction that we are Christian and we belong to God. With all respect I heard alot of excuses here. Not saying there isn't good intention here but alot of the allegations are justified. Just continue to do what God has called you to do and distance yourself from those that clearly have compromised for the sake of fame and status🙏
I really love their music and I know God is able to use it for His purposes regardless of what is really in their hearts. For who can know or judge truly apart from GOD? However hearing this interview disappointed me. I really expected to hear more about Jesus being the centre of what they do. I didn’t even hear them glorifying God and just putting that spotlight on God for what He has done for them. It was more about their strategy and approaches to the business. I mean yes I applaud you for that but at least give God the glory first you know? To be honest your average Christian listener is not set to attack you. Someone who worships God with your music is not calculating on your downfall. They are however concerned with who they are following and the true spirit behind the music they are listening to. Yes God can use the music to reach unbelievers but it doesn’t mean that we are just following blindly. Anyway I think the interview revealed a lot as well as clarified a lot of things. Thank you for your honesty 🙏 ❤
What are their names? Is that EJ Gaines? It is so important to see how their model differs from typical Christian music. There is room for all. Thank you for your ministry.
This is an honest question because I only listened to the video to get a better understanding of your perspective and what we dont see. The part I don't understand if Chandler Moore was there and performed on his own without approval, why did one of the executives on this video say he was there for the rehearsal and performance? There was even a photo op with him from the rehearsal.
We haven't taught people how to look at the heart / walk in the spirit. Other cultural groups are more sensitive to crafting an appearance alone, then judging everyone outwardly. How do we have constructive criticism? Disable comments, then go back to face to face conversations with scripture, like our Rabbi nstructed us to do. Just a suggestion ☺️😘. Great start. A big family conversation with all the artists sharing their journey and faith in God through everything could be cool.
So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.
I’m with my guy in the track suit on his whole Will Smith and Mav City rant. We have to stop tearing other believers down over preferences. That is not what attracts the unbeliever. You never see that from other religions.
Hey guys… Just a thought. And I’m a very gracious person, not a troll, tend to give people the benefit of the doubt… and I don’t like the way that people treated him when he said that… I think maybe leaders should help him to want to grow spiritually… But Dontae wanting to watch Lil Nas X is not like him wanting to watch John Legend… Or Lionel Richie… Ha ha… It’s more like if there was a blatant Racist artist that makes great music, but yet, you would want to watch his performance for the music
I think your dates may be off a bit. Chandler had his son Deuce in 2017 before MavCity was even a thing. His other two have come within his marriage. 🙏🏽 So, no there’s not a double standard within the team concerning him. Hope that clears everything up!
He has four kids apparently - the son you’re referring to and another called “River”, along with his two in the marriage…the 2nd son might be the one he’s talking about
Is that not where grace and growth comes in. I’m not saying we should be hyper grace, but as christians we wake up in sin and can be wrong. So calling out previously wrong statements is not the path, you should praise him for correcting his stance.
lol this man Marcus Rogers literally hunts for any hint of controversy in the name of “righteousness” just for content sake to get his fanbase rattled. He’s probably making a video as we speak to this now lol. Meanwhile, Ruslan ain’t even tryna talk to bro 😂.
@_kaeyos probably shouldn't assume his motives. Whether we like it or not, Ruslan and Marcus had a minor part in the optics of the situation. Though Ruslan didn't mention his name, we can connect the dots. Let him have his say and let it go.
Regardless of what many say about maverick city… the year I got saved and was struggling finding Christian music I could always listen to, I found Mav City back in 2021
Praise God because at the end of the day it not about maverick city. It’s about God message and it reaching you.

Thank you Ruslan for not being afraid to ask the hard questions.
You are not a church but THE CHURCH on assignment. Praying for Maverick, Tribl, the artist and its producers, publishers, etc.
This was an amazing conversation. Every artist needs to hear this. These dudes are pretty impressive. Ruslan was a G on steering this conversation.
Yo Ruslan is such a wonderful moderator and so much confirmation bias clarified about maverick. Thanks for taking back the narrative 🎉
I think the same thing!!
So what I heard was:
Maverick City view themselves as disruptors of the mainstream Christian music industry as regards racial diversity.
My take is, If God can use anyone and anything, (and he does)
He uses folks like this for His own purposes
regardless of their personal lifestyles or commitment to Christian values.
For many, of them it may end up being a case of, “Lord, Lord, didn’t we cast out demons in Your name?”
So in a crazy twist we the consumers of this content actually need to pray for THEM!
Thank you guys for for addressing these issues and being transparent. I love the music and may God bless you all.
1:33:31 - 1:33:47
I feel Ruslan gave that example of Migos ft Mav City, that unfortunately you guys seem to passively agree on here.... but it's not seen in practice.
Ima leave this here with grace, pls dont take this the wrong way:
James 4:4-6
This was such a great conversation! Very insightful & encouraging to hear how they trail blazed and are constantly learning.
Hey I get it. It’s hard. Life is hard. Obedience is hard. Perseverance is hard. God help us every second, minute, hour, day, month, year 🙏🏼 Glory to Him ❤
Ruslan be everywhere 😂
Right 😂😂😂
But the guy is brilliant man
He DO be everywhere haha 😂 goals
Been a fan of Christian Hip Hop for 20 years and came across Ruslan when he was part of The Breax. One thing I learnt about Ruslan is he knows how to pivot and learn, that's why he's grown so much.
Y'all need Shama Mrema next on the pod.😂
Jk. I think this is a good step going forward. Praying for y'all.❤
Such a wholesome conversation and so helpful to understand that we’re all walking this journey with the Lord and to give each other grace as we go, be there for one another and build up the Kingdom together 💛
“We’re gonna find ourselves at a point where we have discredited everybody now who is gonna draw me” wheeeewww a word
It's like asking if God is the first, second, or third priority - but really, 1 Corinthians 10:31 "Whether you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."
The unsettling part of this interview is refusing to answer questions as people, and strictly keeping to a legal defense. This is not Christian accountability, but secular success protocol. It seems the truth of the matter is worse than what it seemed from a distance.
THIS!
As I listen to this interview (which is very much clearing things up for me), it seems as if the business model used opens up so many doors for the kingdom of God to be misrepresented because there is very little accountability.
We appreciate you bringing up this important topic, and we are committed to representing the kingdom of God authentically in our work.
I bet JJ and guy beside em can sing!
Thanks for the conversation; it was good to get some insight into the past couple years and the evolution of MCM/TRIBL. Praying for your success 🙏🏿
Ruslan, you did an awesome job! You asked all the right questions!
Yeah....Man of your word......still affects and impacts😍😍😍😍
I love the convo. I love Mav. But at some point there has to be accountability.
is it me or was a good portion focused on "diversity, identity, safe place, black, white" - not saying that's bad, but definitely some 🚩's antennas went up lol, cautiously optimistic - and a whole lot of justifying mixing light with darkness
That part! Extremely one foot in one foot out!
I love them even more great black men keep serving the kingdom in excellence. 🙌🏾👏🏾
Thank God for our next generations from a 60 year old mother that loves and prays for them continually. This video was a blessing🙏🏽🕊️💕
No matter what they say about maverick city. Their music have changed my life for the better, I will never stop listening to them!
Wow! You guys did a great job editing this video. The cuts are so seamless. Overall, thank you for this conversation. Blessings❤
I've been to 2!! Took my kids to the second one! Can't wait for the next tour!!!
@naarahbrown02 what a blessing that we're able to just be in the atmosphere 🙌🏾 to worship together ❤️
Agreed! They are the supplement to our faith....
1:14:48 When he said that, Ruslan’s face stared going thru a whole Rolodex of artist in his head 🧐🤔🧐🧐🧐🤔🤔🤔
This was a great conversation! Definitely a great way to start with Ruslan as well. Hearing you guys and how you guys talk about motives and why you do it is inspiring and it’s not a question. You can tell you guys have kingdom minded hearts. Praying for yall 🙏🏿
As Christians, it blows my mind when we idolize our own skin Color over the God we serve. Also the belenciaga shirt bro, come on. Do better for GOD.

Thank you
But it's OK when conservative christians do tge same
My question is - Chandler Moore had a secret child (at the time) in 2020, before he got married. It seems a bit inconsistent……
well he hadn’t had that child with his now wife
How do you know it was a secret child?
I just recently found out that he has a child that is too old to be from after he got married.
We all have short comings, but it's easier to criticize others.
thank you so much for watching and we appreciate the grace you extended in you comment
At the end of the day people just judge the team based on their frustrations to be honest cause why judge what you don’t know in deeper context even going further as calling it ungodly just because someone wears or dresses in someway when the main goal is to worship God.
I never even noticed the racial dynamic until you brought it up
I absolutely love the music and there is no doubt that many of the songs facilitate moments of worship but it is clear that the executive team isn’t prioritizing having artists whose lifestyles match what they sing.
It has enriched my life and walk with Christ so much.❤️❤️❤️
I understand how maybe you weren’t totally prepared for everything that eventually materialized from what your original intent was.
Good morning
I'm going to make a comment on your comment. Please understand what I am trying to say. There's no way to say how you are to look. God uses whoever He wants to bring His message across. God can use a person in ragged clothes to give you a message. And remember we are humans... filthy rags before Him.
@@kaliaedward9570Well said!
Ruslan my brother amazing interview/ conversation 🙏🏾
Stay close to God make music for God , God bless you all
This was a good conversation but it’s clear maverick is only about profiting off the name of Christ.
Be blessed
@@jordanbennett9875”There’s can’t be accountability if they’re paying you.” Well said!
The supplement analogy was great Ruslan!
These men gaslighted you to think what you’re seeing isn’t what you’re seeing. And that it’s not wrong
Exactly my thought haha. Platform they have adds a level of responsibility. If they don’t want that responsibility then don’t claim to be Christian. IMO. Y’all can disagree just my thoughts lol.
If that’s what you saw then you saw something completely different that what’s exemplified in this video 🤯 MIND BOGGLING.
Thank you!!!! I love maverick city, but this is just not taking accountability. They're basically like everyone else. We thought they were so organic, so original. They just like errbody else
@@StephenIvey wait what did you see?
@theblessingreport exactly. Glad someone else discerned that too.
Thank you so much for the kind words, our goal is to be the hands and feet of Jesus
Thank you. I agree that we are either for God or against God.
Mav city impacted me so greatly as man and pastor. No lie my youngest sons middle name is Maveric partly because of my love for Maverick city music 😂
Sometimes with a perfect mix - the feeling gets lost. We need that “raw” sometimes.
Man this was epic. Needed 2 more hours.
This was a great conversation. ❤
Love hearing the story of Connor and I need help.. so good
1:38:25 I'm tired of Christians calling EVERTHING "demonic" too 😂 When I saw the Will Smith performance with Chandler, the fire and pit just looked like imagery. Will was supposed to be in a dark place and the song was about looking for the light. If Christians believe Hell is real then idk what people were offended about.
This is really cool to get to hear more about how Maverick city got started. I really like the story of o
community first over production and output and wanting to have a bunch of different people with different experiences in the same space.

Thank you for your honesty 🙏 ❤
this was so good
What are their names? Is that EJ Gaines? It is so important to see how their model differs from typical Christian music. There is room for all. Thank you for your ministry.
You know the person working next to you the most...
Me: I guess I know myself?
The execs said “Aht! Aht! Ruslan flexing and us (Black men) flexing is not the same” 😂
Making art doesnt have to be all consuming, you jut have to have the proper balance😊 and the right people to delegate to
It's a business, I think we as the public have to accept that. We were expecting more but that's not what intended to deliver.
Who yall think the artist is at 1:32:00😊
Connor price
I thought it was Will Smith lol
This is such a good interview
If we are for Christ, we should not be wearing Balenciaga, period.
I have been deeply blessed by many of your songs.....and contiunue to be blessed by your music
So why did you need to issue a statement regarding Dante not being apart of Maverick City if he was only representing himself.
🙏🏿✊🏾❤️
Is that a Balenciaga shirt?
This says all I need to know about this interview. And if you don't know, You need to know.
Exactly.
Hey guys… Just a thought.
And I’m a very gracious person, not a troll, tend to give people the benefit of the doubt… and I don’t like the way that people treated him when he said that… I think maybe leaders should help him to want to grow spiritually…
But Dontae wanting to watch Lil Nas X is not like him wanting to watch John Legend… Or Lionel Richie… Ha ha… It’s more like if there was a blatant Racist artist that makes great music, but yet, you would want to watch his performance for the music
what about the collab with glorilla👀
But why is dude wearing Balenciaga? 🤦🏻♂️
My viewpoint has changed. I repent from judging maverick city
I think your dates may be off a bit. Chandler had his son Deuce in 2017 before MavCity was even a thing. His other two have come within his marriage. 🙏🏽 So, no there’s not a double standard within the team concerning him. Hope that clears everything up!
He has four kids apparently - the son you’re referring to and another called “River”, along with his two in the marriage…the 2nd son might be the one he’s talking about
❤
Hey Maverick, If ya'll want to reach a Kreyol audience I'd love to translate some of ya'll songs.
Ruslan... we got to pull up the old tapes when you said I was being too hard on Maverick City. You have changed your tune
Is that not where grace and growth comes in. I’m not saying we should be hyper grace, but as christians we wake up in sin and can be wrong. So calling out previously wrong statements is not the path, you should praise him for correcting his stance.
Marcus, I like that you mostly want to stand for the truth. But sometimes I wonder what your motive is.
This comment??
@@derekglover337seriously!
lol this man Marcus Rogers literally hunts for any hint of controversy in the name of “righteousness” just for content sake to get his fanbase rattled.
