    That was second day of this film in Russia and I want to say thank you. All who were in cinema cried as I am. I was only 3 years old when that happened, and my granddad was right when he said: They drowned them alive. Thanks for British sailor, who tried to do everything for saving Russian sailors.

    I am russian. I was 10 y when it happened. I remember very clear that horrible feeling which permeated everybody around. It was in air.
    Absolutely everybody with tear-stained eyes were staring at TV and were waiting for rescue those guys.
    And Everybody had the same feeling - we left those guys. Gave them up.
    90s was a hard time for Russia - wars, heavy economic depression. But there is something special about exactly this tragedy.
    Nowadays those guys fade into oblivion. For the governement this is very inconvenient topiс. That's why there is no russian movie about this tragedy.
    We gave them up when we left them in that f*cking stupid tincan. We gave them up again when we pretty much quickly let ourselves forget everything about it.

      'Lord God, our power ever more, whose arm doth reach the ocean floor.
      Divine with men beneath the sea; transverse the depths protectively.
      Hear us when we pray, and keep them safe from peril in the deep.
      Lord, guard and guide the men who man the submarines that guard our land.
      Be with them always, night and day, in quiet depths and roaring spray.
      O hear us when we cry to Thee, for those in peril on the sea.'

    I lived in Russia in the region where this submarine was based (Murmansk region) and was about 14 y.o. when this tragedy took place. I do remember it all quite vividly. A year later I visited Vidyaevo - a little military town where the submarine was based and where most of the crew members were from. They have a small museum dedicated to this event. In that museum you can find letters written by the crew members inside of the submarine before they died. These letters were addressed to their family members : wifes, children, parents. Really hard to read those letters without getting very emotional.

      This is the second time I have seen him play a Soviet Admiral, with a SSBN in distress under his command; the first being 'Hostile Waters', with Rutger Hauer as the Submarine Captain, and Martin Sheen as a Captain of a US nuclear 'hunter/killer' ... although the intital collision between the two subs is debateable, the rest (a liquid fueled missile leaked, creating a massive, intense, blaze in the missile compartment; the fire burning through the control systems to both reactors; and finally the scarifice of one, inordinately, brave young man whom manually 'scrammed' both of them, only to die in the reactor compartment: he ran out of bottle oxygen, and the air pressure was so great, the door could not be reopened) is absolutely true, and bloody terrifying at the same time ...

    • @mh-ki2dv
      @mh-ki2dv 6 лет назад +5

      BlueBoy0316 Lol no one was going to save them. Western or not. The remaining oxygen was consumed by a flash fire that killed the crew that was left in compartment 9. They were abandoned yes, in the long run though it probably did the Russian navy well. Saved them millions in rescue attempts that wouldn’t have worked.
      While it is saddening to see these Russian’s die, don’t blame Russia. No one could’ve done anything.

    • @Blueboy0316
      @Blueboy0316 6 лет назад +24

      @@mh-ki2dv perhaps they were dead before the British rescue team arrived at the accident scene. The problem is the Soviets didn't ask for help. It was offered and only accepted days later. That's the issue, a halfhearted effort was made with outdated technology and brave men before the westerners came in.

    • @mh-ki2dv
      @mh-ki2dv 6 лет назад +1

      BlueBoy0316 That’s the point. Although they didn’t ask for help it’s probably best that they didn’t. Like it or not the entire crew was doomed the second the HTP torpedo was loaded into the tube. No one was going to save them. No one tried until it was to late because everyone knew they were fucked from the start.

    • @krashd
      @krashd 6 лет назад +17

      Max Herman, completely wrong, read any document on the matter and you would see that any number of nations could have saved the survivors, the British already had a DSRV on route within hours of picking up the 'seismic events' where the Russians were playing wargames but it sat aboard a ship for 3 days waiting for someone to give them the go ahead. It could have rescued dozens, and would have.

    My respects to those Russian sailors who perished aboard Kursk, your 'enemies' in the West - particularly the United Kingdom, would've tried to save you - but politicians and propaganda stopped the attempt in it's tracks and you were lost from this world forever. We are all human beings, this was a tragedy made far worse by those in power who did not care for those who simply wanted to serve their country, friends and family. Deepest sympathies to the families, may your grief be short and your happy memories be everlasting.

      I can’t imagine a more depressing subject for a film given what those poor men and their families suffered. I suppose it’s going to raise awareness for people who don’t know. It’s my understanding that using hydrogen peroxide has been a huge mistake every time it’s been tried on submarines and those men had every right to expect their lives to be important and everything possible done. I assume it’s not going to be particularly popular in Russia.

I have been in great danger in my career ( in some cases close to death, a few of them thanks to God and luck I survived) in some of them and in these seconds lasted " i saw" my son and i HAD THE SAME CONCERNS.. Will he remembers me when he grows up?and of course many times happened my wife calling me and couldn't reach me ( because in the most cases I was full of work and one of them in hospital because of my job of course). So much pride for their Mother Land and proud to be a part of what was meant to protect their family's and there country only to be abandon by the very government they gave there life for. But because of governments pride not to let other country that had the means and technology come to help rescue those brave men when they could have been saved. My condolence the families of those brave men. May they rest in peace. Though they have gone they will not be forgotten.

    Funny thing will happen in Russia, when this movie came out, I'll give my word: from all of ours propagandistic media will be the topics, that this film is "completly lie", that norwegians "did not offer the help" (from all I know they offered the help, but our navy command refused it. Later, by the way, they accept it, but it was too late - all sailors died), that our navy "did all they could", thst "Putin did not smile, when King asked him about the submarine" etc. More of that - they will starts shooting their own movie about the tragedy (for example - we're already shooting our own Chernobyl series, after HBO's) wich tells the "TRUTH" about this disaster.
    Our goverment did not care about sailors back then. When wifes of Kursk asked Putin, why our ships didn't reach wreckage in time, Putin said something about bad weather or storm at the sea. For the record Norway ships reached Kursk in time and there was no storm. Putin lied about this from the beginning.

    Matthias Schoenaerts = Greatest Screen Actor Alive
    If you disagree go watch Bullhead, The Drop, and Rust and Bone; three different languages three different unbelievably compelling, authentic, note perfect performances that were the highlight of their respective films; films where you see him (Matthias) starring opposite brilliant brilliant performers!!
    Hell, after you watch those movies ya might as well check out his turn in Thomas Vinterberg's (same director as Kursk) wonderful adaptation of the Thomas Hardy novel, "Far From the Madding Crowd"... the man is never less than captivating in everything he does.
    Edit: I forgot to mention that Matthias speaks 4 different languages, and acts superbly using 3 of them which is an achievement in & of itself, but the fact that he is the standout performer in every movie I've ever seen him in regardless of what language he's speaking places him in a class all his own imho. Also, on a side note, I'll never forget when I first saw him act when i watched "The Drop" (such an underrated film by an extraordinarily talented Belgian filmmaker Michael R. Roskam he also directed Bullhead), I was convinced that the guy playing Eric Deeds (Schoenaerts character) was truly a New York actor I had never heard of; he was so impressive that imho he stole the film in terms of magnetic energy, and just sheer ability... English is his second language, and his newyork accent was better than Hardy's!!!! WTF!!!!!? Well, now that it is 100% apparent that I got a boner for this man's acting prowess (possibly more than that lol) I'll shut my fuck'n yap.

    Some ppl in the comments have stated that the sailors died within 12 hrs and therefore nothing could have been done. That is *not* the point. Every attempt should have been made, as quickly as possible with all resources available. We all ask our young men and women to make the ultimate sacrifice for us, they do so willingly for a higher purpose. The very least we can do is to help as we can under these circumstances. I do not buy the argument that _"nothing can be done"_ . That does not excuse us from our responsibilities.

      Everything possible WITHIN RUSSIAN MILITARY DOCTRINE was done for the Kursk’s crew, once the Russian Navy realised that she was in serious trouble. But that realisation came too late for the Kursk, and it also took too long for the Russian Navy to realise they couldn’t handle the rescue operation alone. Then they had to get permission from the Russian government before asking for foreign assistance. All this took time the Kursk’s crew didn’t have.
      No blame attaches to any foreign rescue personnel. The vessel in distress was a Russian ballistic missile submarine. Docking with it WITHOUT the permission of the Russian government would be a major violation of Russian sovereignty, and the Russians would be within their rights to open fire on the foreign rescue vessels!
      The foreign rescue crews could do nothing until they received the Russian government’s permission to assist.

    I feel sorry for those men who died on the Kursk even though I’m an American I respect their bravery and their attempts to stay alive until help came but sadly it was too late I remembered asking myself why didn’t the government help them by asking international help if they did that after their attempts failed to dock on the the Kursk then the 23 men could have been saved before the submarine itself was flooded and the explosion could have been prevented if the torpedo that carried the hydrogen peroxide fuel wasn’t on the submarine damaged in the first place and also if everything was upgraded and maintenance in the Navy before the navy exercise then the outcome would have been different and the crew would have survived and been with their wives and children
    May the crew of the Kursk rest in peace
