Being sincere, I started to play the drums from a very young age, and since my family could not afford a lot of things, such as a double bass drum or a double pedal, I learned to play double bass drum with one foot using the Beat of the snare drum to rest of leg. I'll try to upload a video explaining this. When I grew up my drum set also did until what it is today. Actually I've been playing with two bass drums for only 5 years (I play drums from I was two and now I'm twenty two), and even then I used this technique many times, until last summer when I bought a double pedal for my home e-drum kit and I'd practice it not only in the rehearsal room with my band. I think the trick is to adjust the pedals very well to favor the rebound, the beat and make the least effort with the legs. To be able to make the whole movement with the foot. Another thing I also do is place the foot in the lower half of the pedal as you can see in the video, this way the foot offers less resistance to the pedal and can return to its resting position more easily to be able to push it back and take advantage of the energy of that movement.
