I’m new to the Star Ocean franchise and Last Hope was my first experience. The story was decent (if rather long winded), but I remained relatively invested in knowing where will it lead next. The Welch cutscenes where she meets the new party members (except for Arumat) was fun to watch. Overall, I really enjoyed the space travel and the character themselves offered their own quirks to make them stand out.
I am currently working on (playing through) SO5 and SO3 reviews too, but i'm not sure will those come out before launch of SO6. You can buy The Last Hope, pretty cheap here - www.cdkeys.com/pc/star-ocean-the-last-hope-4k-full-hd-remaster-pc-steam?mw_aref=Sugi
One thing about translations from someone who has translated novels: "Lost in translation" = bad translation. There have always been people saying garbage like "Nakama doesn't have an equivalent in english", either because they're snobs or just have a weak vocabulary in one of the languages.
In this particular context i meant that perhaps a characters persona may have come out bit differently due to the dub. The way i see word "nakama" is like a mixture between comrade and a friend, but i think given different context the word can mean more of a friendship or comradery between soldiers for instance. But you're right - when things get lost in translation it just means that dubbers fucked up.
I was on the creative team for this game. I suggest the protagonist be named 'Katana Lonewolf', but in retrospect, I'm glad they went with something more grounded.
New to star coean I have known about it for years and play alot of older RPGs PSX era etc but should I buy this on steam or seek it out in its original form? like I love the PSX version of FF6 for example so I know its a remake which is best?
I like how you said everyone will probably find ONE character they like. On the other hand, the "Tales" series tends to be the inversion of that, with most of the characters being beloved. I haven't played this game, but a ton of the reviews I read absolutely despise some character in Star Ocean: The Last Hope.
I worded that badly, what i meant more to say - there is a neko, loli, cyborg, elf girl with boobas, Edgy Dark character. It's kinda catering to arch-type niches that some people like. However I would the cast is pretty one-dimensional and that's perhaps due to some characters not receiving enough time for character development. However SO3 does have lot better characters and so does SO5 for most part (or at least higher average in case of SO5). As for tales... Symphonia has amazing cast, arise characters were very meh to me. Vesperia meh outside from Raven/Judith. Zestiria cast I didn't also really like. I'm not far enough into to comment berseria and graces F yet tho. However tales kinda falls bit too much into anime tropes with its characters.
@@SugiJRPG Ahh, okay. Well, the wording gave me a smile in any case. I think most JRPGs tend to veer into over-used tropes, but they can still be enjoyable...especially when the alternative is some of the very unlikable characters in western fiction of late.
West is trying to make characters to have more dimensions by being more diverse (Which is obv very bad origin point for a fix) but they do aknowledge somehow even if its surface level stuff - that there should be more different characters, while as Japan keeps their "anime trope" meta going on since it works domestically and to a degree internationally, however west comes often a not to censor violence/sexual content (good example being SO5). However when you have watched much as anime as i have, you start to get tired of these tropes. I mean sure tsundere stuff is pretty new, but they don't innovate with their character archetypes and depths really as much as they should've. Most ppl who are new to JRPG's or Anime in general won't obv have problem with this.
@@SugiJRPG That's a good point: the west trying to make diversity but going about it completely wrong, while the east is stubborn about deviating too far from the tropes. Fingers crossed that Japan adds a little more variety to get away from predictable character archetypes.
For some odd reason i had purchase the remaster on ps4 but never got to play it, forgot about it i am downloading it now it looks amazing i am playing devine force its awesome
I bought star ocean first departure R.,The last hope, An integrity and faithlessness. For $21 altogether. The series kind of picked my interest. I have not played them yet but I will eventually LOL. There are bigger games I want to play first
