Lynn am seeing my brother seated with you. He started drinking after losing his job. He has young babies but he drinks like shit. He tells me he wants to commit suicide and because am tired of his behaviors, I have always given him ago a head. He is such a stress to the big hearted wife and the children. He blames me for not helping. I have tried the much I can. I even want him to go to a rehab even though I can't afford now I was told 3 months is 150k. I am dedicatedly watching this so that I can learn and see how to help my brother. Lynne I am tired and his family is tired too. Relatives do not care about his actions even our Dad even though mom is late buy he is old enough to man up. I wish I would learn to help him. I have not lost hope yet but I am tired Lynne. Bravo to our guest
Joe I can feel you, I have been through what you are going through and this show here explains lot what I have seen in my own brother too....am praying for you and your family don't give up on him.
I feel your pain, went through the same with my brothers. Two of them just stopped drinking on their own. They started going to church and everything changed for the better. It was a long journey but we never gave up on them.
Please don’t give up. Be patient with him. You are his last hope. I am tell you out of experience. Right now my baby brother is on internship having graduating in clinical medicine and surgery. It took God and wisdom to see him through. He always told me that I was his only hope and sure enough I committed to assist him. Trust God only to see you through.
Lynn, this is a touching story. Somebody's real life. I feel for the parents of such children. Iam a victim of this situation and I can say, it is only through God's grace to come out of such a life. I have a daughter, who is exactly the same story of Chris. But the girl started when in form 2, stealing money from parents and after form 4 she became worst, running away from home for days. Sometimes, getting herself into the wrong hands of the law....arrested...being call at night to confirm whether, we know her. When we asked what's her problem, she said she wanted to be taken to rehab. We took her for 6months after coming out, no improvement she became even bad and we thought of returning her to rehab far away. We took her to a rehab for 14months. She came out better and went back again. We decided to leave her. We now concentrated in praying and fasting for sometimes. God is gracious and when we call on His name, He is never late to answer. The girl changed and change completely and now a good girl hustling for her life. Such real stories motivates someone who is trying to come out of it. May God bless Chris as he embark on his life. There should be no regret but thank God for preserving your life. My cry always was, God don't let my daughter die in sins and God is faithfully.

I can't wait to see part2, Just like Chris; I have a similar situation happening with me and the only difference is that I'm not at home in Kenya but it's all going crazy where I currently reside -Ireland.
Am loving these episodes that men are coming to speak of their woundedness. Chris i have followed your threads on twitter & bold of you to share the challenges you went through 🙏❤️Addicts are not criminals they just need help😁
Very true alcoholism it's addiction and it requires treatment of the problem first withdrawal symptoms and detox and then staying clean and sober and maintaining the wiring in the brain.🛐📖🙏🏽🙋🙋🙌🏽🙌🏽🙏🏽
Lyn I suffered with alcolism I started drinking at 21 here in Europe I thought aki I don't know it started, the day I stopped drinking that was 2 years ago after I started having pankreatisis, woi its so hard because of the lies I was trying my mum, I guess I started drinking because I thought I was so lonely and I was struggling with almost past memories and I was all alone here and nobody knew it but am greatly greaful I have overcome it
Our guest today is so brave, he has openly shared his story. Alcoholism is an illness that requires treatment and not condemnation. It can be frustrating seeing a family member going through it but supporting them go through rehab is a major step for a turn around. Let us show them a lot of love. Jamo did so well with Chris, even his employer Safaricom. Thanks Lynn for this story. Looking forward to Part 2.
I worked as a bartender in one of the prominent yet discreet brothel in Karen and let me tell u I saw things that are not meant to be seen ,men ruining their lives with young ladies and spending money like there is no tomorrow, thank God I left after I got another job abroad.
I've been an addict myself and i know how it feels i had to get myself out of that addiction problem..I was top of the class in KU with First class honours degree in Economics had a top job in the government. Was taken to rehab by thw government but never let go of my addiction they even gave me a counsellor but i never came out coz i was also battling depression too.How i came out of that cocoon i just praise God i swear.Addicts are not criminals we normally just need help 😢😢😢 Edits:My parents disowned me due to alcoholism,i did so many embarrassing things as a woman because of alcohol but no one heard my cry of help even my own mother whom i kept asking why she hated me so much. I've had a tough one while growing up never experienced the parental love and that made me hate myself alot. I've been bullied so.much has happened that made me really hate myself and reasons i never have friends always a solo walker.I lost everything including my kids but i started over again.I wish we could have an AA whatsapp group for us to confide in each other and support others too.
At a period where most inspirational content is geared towards assisting women, I'm glad you brought this man to the show. I hope you can get some more men to come just try and balance the ratio. I'm pretty sure a lot of men related with this story.
Cathy ,pole sana, but please try to talk with him, don't ignore him try to ask him why he is taking Alcohol. My brother reason for taking Alcohol ,he got divorced after Retirement, so he was lonely , he had companies in the Bar ,so it got to his normal life. He passed on 2020 December. So sad.
Thankyou for coming out to tell your story. I lost my dad to alcoholism when I was little. I believe he was a good man coz sometimes he would promise us that he will never drink again coz he doesn't want to keep embarrassing us. Addiction is a tough battle. He caught pneumonia after he fell in a mtaro on a rainy night and lost his life.
That's the problem with addictions,it's because it's a demon that controls someone so most times it overpowers someone, one by themselves they can't drink that's why your dad would promise he won't do it but end up doing it without his will, Am so sorry for what you went through ruth
I applaud Chris for coming around to speak about this. We are experiencing this with my cousin a bright boy who cleared university got a very good job but was also sacked over drinking cheap liquor..... I wish there was a way to help him
Yes you can help him but its untill the boy decided to change for good. If not, even if you take them to rehab , they move out and become worse . This something i have witnessed .
Lynn what this man is talking about is real. Back in the days our teachers knew what was happening some of them even said nikutolewa usoftie. Kuna wengine ata walikua wanaogopa coz these bullies would indirectly threaten them. Kwanza sisi kulikua na siku hungewai lala dorm ata the form three and form four would sneak out in the night on Friday to a shopping centre go drink and even sleep with ladies of the night. And upon coming back usiku wanagonga mabox na miti na machupa wanawaamsha muwaimbie na mdance . Heeeee weee nakwambia how I survived all this is God. We umelala unashtukia umeamshwa na ubaya either uendee maji Kwa bafu wife miguu ama uwaoshe nguo . Some of those I was at high school with didn't make it to form four without inheriting the habit . I remember loosing a guys trouser ente alikua ameniambia nimuoshe na nimuangalilie hadi ikauke. Weeee nliona Moto, he would call me every evening and abuse me some times threatenbto beat me and some times beat me up . My God Lynn . I didn't go to school in the 90s like he did but back when I was at high school it was baaad. You know the funny thing is I have met the people who did bad things to me I looked at them and wondered how on earth. Some I have met are in their worst conditions . I do not judge them neither am I happy about it . LIFE is such a roller coaster waaaaaaaa.
This interview is quite heavy.. So bold and commendable of you Chris. You are a testimony for many alcoholics and their loved ones that it is possible to overcome the addiction. You are an unsung hero
Visiting Kenya last year after twenty years, I noticed alcohol is so glamourised (made up word 🙈). It's on billboards, TV commercials, etc.) I felt very sad. Young people find it very attractive to drink. When I went to the village in Nakuru for my mother's memorial, I was very saddened by the amount of young people lost in alcoholism 😢. I saw young people unconscious by the roadside, I thought they were dead!! But was told they were drunk. I have cousins hooked on alcohol, some died from it 😭😭. I hope something will be done. Here in Ireland, people lost their lives from road accidents due to drink driving. It was a great crisis and the government banned alcohol advertising on billboards and media. The government also sanctioned times alcohol to be bought and served in pubs to 10am-10pn. You cannot buy alcohol anywhere in Ireland outside these times. Because of these measures, death rates on the roads have reduced by a great percentage. A lot of people stopped drinking and majority cannot stand alcoholism. Young people in Kenya and everywhere else in the world need to learn you can have fun without alcohol. You can heal without alcohol. Keep active in sports, community engagement, training, volunteer work, innovation activities, music, dancing, prayer etc. God bless my country Kenya 🙏🏾.
This information is quite insightful lesson to those in this forum wishing to be community leaders. Please try adopt some of these tips to our own situation at least to help those who are vulnerable. Thank you so much for taking time to write, as a community we appreciate. Asante
Great post Kadzo. It's interesting to note that Ireland once had to deal with the same challenge but they managed to overcome it. I believe there's hope for our young people as well. The problem with alcoholism is that it's tied up with so many other issues such as unemployment and poverty. Dealing with it is akin to walking on a tight rope because anything can trigger back the habit. These many issues need to be addressed too if we have to deal this scourge a defeating blow. I feel there's opportunity available for us all to make a lasting change. For example, donating to organisations that help alcohol addicts, supporting community based businesses or initiatives etc.
I love it when MEN SPEAK THEIR MIND OUT AND CHALLENGE S THEY GET ALONG THE WAY. THAD A STRONG MAN RIGHT THERE..LETS EMBRACE PEOPLE EVEN AT THEIR LOWEST .GOOD SHOW LYN 💝
This is a good inspirational story, I've been there same case and it ruined my life completely. Its been almost 1year sober and am hoping to be sober for the rest of my life.
We really need to start speaking our hearts out I often tell myself that this is the last time I'll ever catch myself drinking and yet I'll be on it by the next morning, tried to quit a thousand times but I'm stuck with it so now all I do is stay alone and avoid people so that I can stay sober for at least a day
His life was interrupted by the trauma in form one. The mind has a way of storing rogue information. The being lined up naked is something he remembers clearly as a setback. Unfortunately adults do not realize how such humiliation messes up our psychi. I hope he went to therapy to awaken that inner child whose dignity was taken away by bullying. Alcoholism is a disease. The stigma needs to end.
Asante sana Chris for sharing your story. It must have been very difficult to gather the courage to speak out on your addiction journey. Everyone who will listen to you, they will learn. I pray that God protects you and showers you with many blessings. May God keep you sober and strong for ever. 🙏🏿 You are the voice to many who are suffering in silence. Each one of us knows somebody who has an addiction, be it in the family, or friend's circle. Most of us who call ourselves casual or social drinkers, let's check our drinking habits and watch for the warning signs. There is a very thin line between an addict and an occasional user. Thank you Chris and God bless you 🙏🏿
I salute Chris for his bravery in sharing his story. I've learnt that a small mistake can be fatal. So glad that he was able to leave it all behind and start again and flourish.
Chrispus Githae kimaru... My primary school classmate,He was among the best students, waaa i didnt know you went through all this, thanks so much for sharing, thanking God with you for saving your life, people lets learn never to judge,
I am a mother to a Chris. This has really touched me. We have tried everything even that Chiromo he is talking about and others. I would really aprreciate if he gets help. We have used so much resource trying to help our son.
Hee his man has made me cry, for all the pain that started from being bullied and feeling l ok me a failure even when you were not....my God Chris thank-you for sharing your story and may God use you to reach the men in your generation as a tool to heal the brokenhearted.
Amazing episode sure this guy has really transformed....Githae am sure you've inspired someone am proud of a man you becoming you didn't let your past define your future.
Many Kenyan men who attended high school in 90s upto 2010 were thoroughly bullied and beaten in high school. Banning of corporal punishment saved the current kids a lot
Thank you Chris for the courage to share your experience in alcohol addiction. My own brother has been in alcohol addiction for more 35 years. Now I understand him better from your story.
I'm Genuinely sorry for the pain you went through. I feel like the pain u felt when you were bullied in high school was supressed and manifested later after you finished school, coz boarding school can get very very very LONELY!!! I know first hand. thank you so much for sharing and May God continue loving you and protecting you. God loves you more than any Mortal! dont forget that.
I have just attended a burrial of a young man who passed away because of alcohol.please let's help our brothers and sisters to come out of it as soon we sense danger.
A few minutes into the story and I already relate to the man. There is alot of internal hardships that come with being good academically. When you dont reach the sky it feels like the end. I wish there was education around that. Sometimes our gifts become our curses coz we dont know how to handle them.
I didn't know alcoholism was this awful,i thot people drink because they want to and they enjoy doing that .Thank you for educating us..waiting for part 2
This hit me sooo hard...exactly what I'm going through right now I spent the better part of this sunday and monday crying. I'm just praying the alcohol I had yesterday will be my last
Take heart and just believe in yourself that you'll pull through this. Seek help too if you can. This guy would be the one to talk to coz he gets it. Grace be with you
Dear Denis, I am praying for you. I pray that God hears you out and heals you! It may be a struggle but start small and know that the future is bright! When you conquer alcoholism, you will be whole again.
Dennis, all will be well. You are willing to change ,God will help you. The only thing I can advise you is changing your friends with whom you take Alcohol with, and if possible place where you live. There is always reason for a beer or Glass of Wine. I wish you all the best dear. Am sad although I don't know you. I lost my brother from Alcohol in December 2020, I know how it is.
Chris watching you and i can relate to your story. I remember those days in our small village n how things would be, I thank God you are now reformed and the path that God is taking you.You have been a bright champ and you are destined for greatness
I am from Karatina and I can tell you for free. That town needs redemption. It is such inspiration to see a man get out of that hole. We will continue praying and standing with our Brothers, Uncles, Fathers and Sons.
Lynn I have also slapped myself on that part of kuona mlevi and I don't want to associate myself with him..he is dirty God forgive me ...it pains more to hear that they seek for help inwardly but who can listen to a mlevi kwanza we will tell them "enda ukakunywe wewe" it's a sad story😢😢
Wah, I'm going through this right now. It's only today I haven't drunk anything since 2017 and my body is so shaky and cold. Wish I will never drink again
There's nothing more important than a strong support system...God bless Jaymo because mimi after hiyo story ya kuibiwa laptop alafu bado unatumia pesa zote kwa bank account ningekucharaza . Thanks Steve for sharing this...lifelong lessons 💯💯💯 second chances in life are always the best, so soldier on God's got your back.
Such a brave man. Calling a spade a spade. Yani ukifikiria you are struggling, here comes Chrispus story of his past, and you realize you are highly favoured. Your story will heal so many lives 👏
Seeing alcohol addicts in my family made me hate alcohol and I constantly talk to my children about how alcohol affects lives praying to God that none of my kids will go down that road
Many’s Adults and younger generation in kenya are going through this big problems of alcoholism somking bangi chewing melaa Megoka some of Kenyans families members are even goes mentally sickness and no where’s to taken them or any helper social worker
May the Lord help me never to judge anyone,as a neighbor and former primary and college mate to Crispus, for sure there is part of you I didn't know of and am encouraged and amused to the fact that you are out there to help others.... May God bless you. This is God's doing, soon you will be the one to deliver our youths starting from our village in mentorship.I need you,WE need you in shaping our young ones. Happy for you.
Alcoholism is a real issue in our society and funny enough most people don't know they are addicts cos unlike Chris they don't shake or remove "lock " n it's important to bring such real conversations affecting so many people. Thankyou Chris and I thank God for your restoration.
So real, so vivid, simply told from a very vulnerable position Thanks Chris you are genuinr and your story will help many. Lynn you are a gem able to identify what people need to learn by picking your interviews with a Lot of genuine empathy.
Alcoholism is a pandemic I have seen people very close tome getting destroyed by it ..the moment I came to understand that all addictions have an underlying trauma I stopped judging.I just hope one day they will decide enough is enough.
I just can't avoid laughing' I found myself sleeping inside a room without a roof but with stars above'. Thanks for creation of awareness anyway. My principal shall be ' A wiseman learns from other people's mistakes but a fool waits to learn from ones own mistake.
Young people are really getting into alcoholism especially in campus. I've seen people we got admitted in campus with first year but by the time they are in fourth year they cannot do without the alcohol even to an extent of shaking. I kept on wondering why on earth we had bars in campus premises... Alcohol has brought more harm than good 😔
I love how he tells his story with lots of humor. The fact that he came out from all of that, it shows how God can save his people. This is so encouraging!
Chris , I can attest his story regarding the Moi university campus ordeal .We were comrades year 2006. Great to hear your story.Cheers Chris aka Murungaru lol. Thanks Lynn for bringing back the campus memories. I like this show.
been done, done that...i am now celebrating 8 years of sobriety that has enabled me to develop the kind of life i always wanted. Kudos to you for kicking the habit
Oww,the guy looks soo much like Lewis nguyai former kabete mp,soo composed, humbleness on higher level...Men rarely talks, ,I Lost all my beloved three brathas thru alcohol😢😭😭..Wish someone came thru to save just one of them....All the best Chris....
I was trying to place the face! Thank you for reminding me it’s Lewis Nguyai. They really resemble! Pole for the loss of your brothers. May God’s peace and strength be with you!
The' roof with the stars' and' brother Chris' just got me. Chris is a good narrator indeed it is true he liked to read books . Listening to your great inspiration from Moi University
My Ex was an alcoholic,it was normal in his family and in Kisii land people drink to a stupor ,what a bad upbringing, children learn from their environment.I choose to leave after trying to stay .It’s the worst thing you can experience .It takes a strong heart to stay with such a person especially if they are sleeping around with many women, you can get sick from anything he gets from other people.Sometimes you have to walk away and pray they change their ways and help themselves.I am glad he found his way, many get lost in that dark world.
@@Anne-rh8rn never changed 20 years later. He messed up his generation for life and lost his children.I have to care for our three daughters all alone from pregnancy,l,thank God they are 19 now ,but they don’t want anything to ever do with him. They are traumatized to see any adult drink alcohol.
@@NileGoddess I'm so sorry this happened to you. No one ever talks of the emotional damage that's caused by having to deal with an alcoholic & promiscuous partner it's quite draining and it takes a lot of courage to finally walk away for your own sanity. Proud of you mum I'm sure your children are too.
@@Anne-rh8rn Thank you Sis.It messed me up a lot and we all suffer the consequences, they say heal lol it’s not that easy it needs a lot of therapy and counselling but we are working hard on it.Thank you for replying and I wish you the best in all that you do.God bless you.
@@NileGoddess God bless you too. All the best in your future endeavours and that of your daughters. May they grow to be great people. I don't know you but I'm proud of you for taking the courage to single handedly raise your daughters to where they are now adults. You are a super mom. I appreciate you.
I realized that addiction is a matter of substance or habit meeting a person with a chemical or emotional/mental/genetic imbalance or marker that makes them respond to the extreme. Ppl should not look at ppl as if they just got up and decided to throw their life away. It’s far more complicated and we should try to get ppl serious intervention once we notice things are not right.

Was taken to rehab by thw government but never let go of my addiction they even gave me a counsellor but i never came out coz i was also battling depression too.How i came out of that cocoon i just praise God i swear.Addicts are not criminals we normally just need help 😢😢😢
Edits:My parents disowned me due to alcoholism,i did so many embarrassing things as a woman because of alcohol but no one heard my cry of help even my own mother whom i kept asking why she hated me so much.
Congratulations Wambui and May God walk with you in this journey of life
Wish Id meet with you...but it's this feeling of wanting to share a story with someone who has been there...Iam hopeful for that chance..
At a period where most inspirational content is geared towards assisting women, I'm glad you brought this man to the show. I hope you can get some more men to come just try and balance the ratio. I'm pretty sure a lot of men related with this story.
It's not about gender its about humanity

Yesterday I cried seeing my brother in late 30s looking like an old man of 60 years coz of alcoholism.i broke into tears,n i told God it's enough now
Cathy ,pole sana, but please try to talk with him, don't ignore him try to ask him why he is taking Alcohol.

That's the problem with addictions,it's because it's a demon that controls someone so most times it overpowers someone, one by themselves they can't drink that's why your dad would promise he won't do it but end up doing it without his will,
Am so sorry for what you went through ruth
I applaud Chris for coming around to speak about this. We are experiencing this with my cousin a bright boy who cleared university got a very good job but was also sacked over drinking cheap liquor..... I wish there was a way to help him
Yes you can help him but its untill the boy decided to change for good. If not, even if you take them to rehab , they move out and become worse . This something i have witnessed .
Lots of counseling and life coaching when he is sober
May God deliver us from alcohol slavery n all other addiction, Chris I feel you.
Wow this is inspirational

We really need to start speaking our hearts out I often tell myself that this is the last time I'll ever catch myself drinking and yet I'll be on it by the next morning, tried to quit a thousand times but I'm stuck with it so now all I do is stay alone and avoid people so that I can stay sober for at least a day
My uncle battled with heroine adduction for 20yrs and he is sober now. If he can make it believe you will as well. May God make it easy for you
His life was interrupted by the trauma in form one.
Thanks Lynne for having us on the show. Speaking out really helped🙏
