I'm glad there was a follow-up to the grotty Apple II you picked up. Very cool to see it working again! I also watch 8-bitguy and didn't expect him to show up but he was definitely the right choice.
I have a full apple IIGS set that I restored, it was a fun and challenging process learning how to disassemble everything, how to handle a CRT, how to recap power supplies, and how to restore a floppy drive, and now it proudly sits on my desk
This was such a cool episode. I love seeing these old computers and how they work. Now I need to go check out 8 bit guy he seems super knowledgeable about this stuff. Great episode man
Ya know, it's awesome coming home from work to a new game chasers episode. Even if it's not a traditional " Chasing" episode, I'm just glad to have content... so thank you I appreciate you guys. Merry Christmas.
That 'language card' you pulled out that said MICROSOFT on it, is actually a z80 softcard. It allows you to use CP/M and other z80 CPU based software. It's not a language card, but it does have some ram to interface with the z80 CPU on the expansion card.
I remember an old guy at work (not so popular) was sharing his postcard collecting at a meeting and nothing was said but I'm pretty sure everyone thought he was just a crazy old man and I wonder if we are going to be the same with retro games.
Always nice to see a system saved from potential land fill. It cleaned up pretty good too the 8-bit Guy did a good job getting it all working. The Apple II is a very nostalgic system for me, played Castle Wolfenstein in the science labs at college and thought it was fantastic at the time. I am lucky to have a working system as well.
Yes, It is called the Z-80 SoftCard. Wikipedia: "...The SoftCard's immediate success surprised Microsoft. Although unprepared to take orders at the West Coast Computer Faire, a Microsoft executive accepted 1,000 business cards from interested parties on the first day;[6] Compute! reported that the company was "inundated" with orders.[1] The SoftCard became the company's largest revenue source in 1980,[10] selling 5,000 units in three months at $349 each, with high sales continued for several years. For a while, the SoftCard was the single most-popular platform to run CP/M,[11] and Z-80 cards became very popular Apple II peripherals...."
Im a sucker for building computers and troubleshooting, and have watched 8-bit Guy's videos so this was a treat. Would love more of these troubleshooting/restoring videos on future finds.
This felt like getting an Apple 2 for Christmas in the form of a Game Chasers episode… also why didn’t you at least clean it first 😂 what’s wrong with these guys?? 😂😂😂
Nah, Im kind of glad they didn't cleaned it first, imagine what will they do to clean it up, they probably will just spraying it with powerwash to clean a car while it actually need just a bit of wipe...lol
^^; had to watch this twice because half way threw we lost power were I live from a storm, so I finally got to watch entire video now and its great, working on old electronics, computers, game consoles is such a good time ^^ glad to see you got it working as well, great video.
Loved the video! Brings me back to my days in elementary school where I used the Apple II E computers. Happy that your computer is working. Hope you get additional memory so it’s fully functional.
I remember an oversized joystick called a bit stick that we used for doing graphic work on an apple2. You could turn the stick when in its central position clockwise or anti-clockwise to zoom in or out on your work. That was around 1985.
Man I've followed you guys for years and years, and I've followed 8bit guy for years and years. Seeing the thumbnail for this video almost gave me a stroke. I've never thought about your channels colliding like this. It has never even crossed my mind that the both of you are Texas bound. 10/10 episode as always, I'm just perplexed that you guys somehow crossed channels.
After coming home from a super busy day at work and seeing a new episode out, you guys helped bring joy back to my day. Thank you. Every episode is a great one. Keep it up gents!
Man what an awesome and wholesome video. Cant believe you guys got to meet 8bitGuy and how he was willing to do his best to help you get the Apple II Plus working.
Really enjoyed this. So cool to see it working. Would love another update if you get the memory expansion working! I love tinkering with electronics when I get the time, this has inspired me to keep my eye out for an old retro computer. We had an Apple of some kind growing up, might have been a 2. Would be cool to tinker with one again.
The Apple II is relatively easy to work on, and parts are readily available. Shouldn't have any problem finding a replacement memory expansion card. If it were me, I'd replace all the capacitors in the power supply, especially the RIFA's. 12:20 The mystery card here is a Z80 co-processor card.
Ah loved this. We had an apple llGS growing up and seeing the print shop logo reminded me of all the birthday invitations I made on that loud ass dot matrix printer. ❤
New Chasers episode! SWEEET! I just got the CRT setup in the game room. Street Fighter 2 on the multicade. Cat in the Hat on the V-Pin, it's freakin Christmas morning up in here let's go!
The 8bit guy is a legend and i so much enjoyed this ep….the oldest computer gaming i have is the Nintendo game and watch donkey Kong 2 and oil panic 🤘🏾and i used to love my Commodore 64 with my Atari along with the nes back in the day
I used to have an Apple ][+ computer and lots of software but I let it all go quite a few years back. The noises from the drive take me back. There are times I miss not having the computer. I did keep all the documentation I had accumulated. I could help identify some of the other boards if I had some close up pictures of them. The board in slot 1 might be a rea-time clock board but that is just a guess based on some common uses for that slot. The video card at 5:14 is most likely a clone of a Videx 80-column card. Videx was a popular 80-column card back in the day. The card at 6:33 is a Z-80 CPU card. It was used to run the CP/M operating system.
This is just as awesome as it get, I remember in latest 8-bit guy retrospective about Apple ][ he have some trouble finding the early model of it and some days later Billy found one...
What a magical crossover for people who watch RUclips like tv. So strange but very cool just like when magnum Pi and murder she wrote crossed over back in the 80’s or so.
Thanks for this update on thr Apple II, it was so interesting watching 8 Bit Guy diagnose the issues and then fix them! Also, what a nice dude going to all the trouble of cleaning it up and handing you free games. I'll be definitely checking his channel out. Please update us if you get the 64K memory!
I really enjoyed this followup bonus video! I love me some old computers. 👍
What's up MJR ?
Possibly my favorite episode here.
Is it because there is less us?
I love these “side episodes.” Very cool that he was able to get a grimey old Apple 2 in working condition.
Spoiler
oh man, and you even got a copy of one of his games out of it, that's freaking awesome! he always struck me in his videos as a genuine dude
I know!
Love David Murray!! Congrats to the guy who got to go on that date with Norm!
The crossover I never expected, so excited for this!!
Dope crossover. I've learned a lot from 8-Bit Guy over the years.
Great seeing a few guys getting together and working on a common interest. Great video, and very inspirational.
Glad you enjoyed it!

I knew 8-Bit Guy would clean this computer. He's like Sheldon and his obsession with cleaning 😊
To be fair, "Melvor the Great" is a pretty badass title. Also, 8-bit guy was such a champ to get this running for you.
Not only did he make his own game, he made his own PC and made a new game for that.
Several other people made that computer.
@@Okurka. He was the head guy behind it though.
Yup. It's not a GC episode without something like "not being able to open a door" being checked off on the Bingo card...

Melvor hacking his lungs out mid interview had me losing it😂😂😂

My two favorite geek shows finally meeting! A killer crossover, indeed.
Hey, you can't use that word! That's our word...
@scorpinok3006 hahah trust me; it's very much my word too. 😅
@@superstarichiban 😉😂
It was so amazing to see two of my favourite channels collaborate. 8-Bit Guy is such a treasure to computing, electronics and RUclips.
This video reminded me of getting together with my friends in the 80s working on our Amiga. Good times and great video. Thanks for the follow up
Glad you enjoyed it
I have a full apple IIGS set that I restored, it was a fun and challenging process learning how to disassemble everything, how to handle a CRT, how to recap power supplies, and how to restore a floppy drive, and now it proudly sits on my desk
This video was good on its own with 8 bit guy and Billy, but Melvor’s inclusion took it up another level and made it fantastic.
I'm a huge fan of 8bitguy, and it's awesome that you two were able to meet up.
This was such a cool episode. I love seeing these old computers and how they work. Now I need to go check out 8 bit guy he seems super knowledgeable about this stuff. Great episode man

Not knowing there's is a new episode of Game Chasers and it pops up on your feed is one of the best feelings ever!! Good shit!!

So satisfying when the 8-bit guy was cleaning the apple 2
what a great idea for an episode. loved it!!!
Melvor coughing during that interview lol
That was so entertaining and educational. Thank you for doing this.
Our pleasure!
That Apple II computer booting up gives me some mega Alien movie vibes with the green text and the sound.
Yup
The crossover I never expected. Nice work to all!
The Microsoft card is an add on, Its purpose was to simplify porting Microsoft's computer-language products to the Apple II.
Yes, It is called the Z-80 SoftCard. Wikipedia: "...The SoftCard's immediate success surprised Microsoft. I really enjoy people helping each other especially gamers and computer, saving retro computer and games, thanks!
Watching this video gave me so much joy. I grew up using Apple II's in school, and even learned BASIC on one of these. Great stuff!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Dodongo at the end there I died 😂😂😂
Great video tho. More collabs plz!
Don’t let this awesome video distract y’all from the fact that CHRISTMAS ROBOTICA is a musical masterpiece.

$40 is really a steal! The Apple IIs on ebay are as high as $400-500.
Never thought i would enjoy a video on an apple 2. Kudos. Great episode.

A well needed episode thanks guys you've helped my day get better!!
The crossover I've been waiting for.
I hadn’t heard of 8-bit guy so thanks for giving me another channel to explore. I can already tell I’m going to enjoy his videos.
The guy is ungrateful in his videos, I hope you like that.

8*bit guy, his videos rock. Glad he brought me to y'all. Good work.
David is one of the best RUclipsrs out there. Very smart, informative and very humble.
Humble? He calls himself a Commodore expert in this video.
Every time they say "This Thing" take a shot, in no time you would be blackout drunk. BTW loved the video!

I believe that Microsoft Card was their Z80 CP/M card for running Wordstar and other CP/M programs
