I was at CAFB in '75 for Fuels Specialist training. I see there was a lot of the base that I didn't explore, which is unusual for me, being a nosy sort. Thanks for these, Jack.

Was at Chanute for 16 years in various capacities. Seeing these videos is akin to seeing the carcass of a great beast left to rot.

That's amazing - I was there the day before you shot this video (was passing thru on my way to Memphis). I was permanent party from 83 - 85. Great video - thanks for the memories

My dad, Charles Cannon worked as Chief of Student Control from 1959 till he retired in 1974. That was in the Headquarters bldg that had the flagpole out front early in the video. He was on the 3rd floor with a perfect view of the flagpole. Anytime his secretary asked what time it was, dad would look out the window to see where the shadow of the pole was and would be pretty accurate at determining the time. She never did figure out how he was doing it. My dad's signature was on all the NPS students' orders to their first base as long as he worked there.

22 hours ago, awesome! I grew up here and moved back during the stay at home to look after a house I bought for my mom. We were an Air Force family, but I moved away years ago to Chicago. I will figure out your dad's view and take a picture for you.

@@JDL0427 Thank you. I doubt you'll be able to get into the old Headquarters building.

amazes me how we just walk away when we close a base with no plan for the locals. housing is needed they just let the barracks go to pot. Homeland, HUD and the DOI need to have plans to upkeep properties these closed bases are the perfect place to house so called migrants and keep them under control by the government

They were demolished to mitigate future claims against Uncle Sam for asbestos exposure.
