I have quite a controversial suggestion ... The deer are eating your rye grase which you obviously don't want ... The veg patch is filled with old veg & weed grasses ... So ... Why not leave the Veg Garden Gates open for a few nights & let the Deer mow it down 🤔 then once cleared the chickens can scratch it over & eat any grubs! 🌺 Susannah

I feel like they would destroy the beds. I like the suggestion though

The last thing you want is for the deer to believe the veggie garden is for them. You should repair the anti-deer fence before planting anything, or they will eat it all.

Nicole is probably right then, the leaves look very much alike on older parsley plants. It will be interesting to see what you’ve got in the garden. Can’t complain about the free tomato plants either. As a rule the self seeded plants are usually more hardy and resilient to different conditions.

Good boy? You haven’t got a rooster for goodness sake. Good girl. Pick them up for a little cuddle. Mine follow me wherever I go around the yard and let me pick them up whenever. Their eggs will be lovely after they free range and eat the bugs. You can tell the difference for sure, especially colour. And it is normal for them not to lay as much during winter.

Give those chicken some 2 weeks all day long on the raised bed enclosed and they will clean it for you.
    8 chicken 1 week maybe.
Remember they will "destroy" grass and weeds but they will also fertilise the soil with their poop (organic nitrogene).
Make a little house for them inside and they will work for you.
And yes if you don't cut their wings feathers they can "fly" hooping a certain high, not too much though but about your waist high or so.

Regarding deer, I saw a good suggestion just below. The trouble is if they do get veg access, it will probably encourage them later. The chickens, on the other hand, will not only scratch it but also help fertilise it. PIR motion sensors that trigger either strobe lights or flashes can help scare deer. As can PIR-activated water sprinklers, which would give you free lawn water at the same time.
I love the chicken release, though. You've also got enough land to have a few pigs or boar. They could eat the vegetable scraps.
If you want them on camera, then set up a PIR-triggered night one. You could maybe stick that on top of the chicken coup??

Interesting vid. Just fence a veg bed in and put the chickens in it for the dy and they will weed it, till it and fertilise it for you way better than you guys can do yourself as they will also get the weed seeds as well. They are the best gardeners around that way.

Now I wait and see if anything actually grows. I have no clue what I'm doing. Looking forward to your veggie videos. 😁
