What amazes me more that these machines were once WIDELY used everywhere, is that they are STILL functional and being kept running after more than a century later. Nowadays we can't even go 5 years with something without it ''withering'' away and having to either see to hopelessly pricy repairs or simply buy something new. I think if we had such machines that lasted longer, people would have a greater appreciation for the items they keep, generally would contribute to less junk being manufactured in such large quantities. Thanks for typing that out so I didn't have to! I'm a bit hard of hearing, so "background" music can sometimes be a problem, but with some of these videos it's especially bad when the narrator speaks. Shame really because I love the series and some of the most important information is covered up by the music!
This is one of the most funniest episodes ever 1 The look of the fisherman when they ask him to use the lobster pot (you want to catch fish with this you peasants? Ok, will give it a try) 2 Ruth freaking out about the running water and iceboxes and molds. 3 The realisation of dealing with machines. Too cute for words!
Over here in "the states", the poor man's Christmas Dinner she made is called Pot Roast. One thing i've always wanted to try is a dish the Brits call steak pie. If anyone from the UK reads this comment, I would appreciate it if you could comment with the recipe for it. It sounds so good. Thanks.
I would reccomend googling a BBC Steak Pie recipe. It's very similar to a chicken pot pie like in the US only with pastry at all sides (hot water crust pastry) and a filling of cubed beef and gravy.
@@justlaurenslife4736 That sounds almost like my Mother's meat pie. She would cut up a beef roast and put onions, carrots and and cubed potatoes in a pie crust (home made of course). She didn't put gravy in the pie though. She made that separate and we would pour it over the pie. She made it with top and bottom crust. God i miss it!!!
Curious as a Brit is our heritage and history different to yours? In the states do you get programmes like this, showing the history of the country? And do you think it's interesting to watch how us English folk used to do it? Xxxxx

Most of the shows I have watched have been comedies.
I was at a farm in Rhode Island with a bunch of Red Devons. They had a calf on a lead so people could pet it and the girl that was holding it had to go do something. She just let the lead go and a few minutes later, the calf bolted. I was able to get the lead and pull it back over to where it needed to be. The girl got back and I told her what happened and she wasn't very grateful that I caught her runaway.
Sorry I just have to make a mention of Thomas Crapper, inventor of the flushing system 😆 🤣 😂 And Bill's face when Alex cracked the joke about his dinghy. Priceless 😆

25:07-25:30 Wow, sounds kind of like some of the jobs at the Disney parks. Maintenance, security, characters swaps -- all have their own hidden corridors to hide away in when they aren't supposed to be seen, and take care of issues secretly to keep the illusion of a magically safe, clean park alive. Sounds about as gratifying as Edwardian servant work, if you ask me.
With the emphasis on scraping by a living with multiple ventures, I would have liked to see a monthly tally of expenses and income...to see if they really were keeping in the black lol

I'm a bit hard of hearing, so "background" music can sometimes be a problem, but with some of these videos it's especially bad when the narrator speaks. Shame really because I love the series and some of the most important information is covered up by the music!
If you watch Brad Colett’s post of the same series the sound is much better. I don’t know why absolute history got it so wrong
I am listening with headphones and it sounds like the volume on the narrator and the soundtrack need to be swapped.
Agreed
I thought it was just me, LOL! Awful editing.
Ruth has a book for everything :D
I enjoyed how much fun this lady had riding her bike to work.
This is one of the most funniest episodes ever
1 The look of the fisherman when they ask him to use the lobster pot (you want to catch fish with this you peasants? Ok, will give it a try)
2 Ruth freaking out about the running water and iceboxes and molds.
3 The realisation of dealing with machines.
Too cute for words!
40:24 that fisher man wasn't very happy with the boys making fun of his dingy hahaha
Peter chuckled as Alex asked, "When's the last time you did any uh refurb on your little dinghy, then?" Bill just glared. @40:23
He did seem very annoyed.
I really, really love these historians, but my one complaint is, the sound when music and narration is going at the same time, it sux.
Xxxxx
@@cheekofeather6310 Well, yes I do. I've always dreamt of at least spending a month or two in London. I'd love to see England. My great Grandfather was from England. I don't know from what part of England though.
@@cheekofeather6310
Our history is different and I am from English descent (and French). Going to England is definitely my top bucket list item. Plus, I've always been very interested in England--history, culture, etc and am damn straight proud to say I'm of English descent.
We get programs from England and documentaries about England too. Most of the shows I have watched have been comedies.
I love ruth! Haha she is just having a blast doing this project!
i LOVED her poking through the christmas cards and laughing at how posh and ridiculous they were
I was at a farm in Rhode Island with a bunch of Red Devons.
She suxed probably irrated tht you caught the calf irritated by her own stupidity entitled ppl suck in general
Love this, but please turn the music down a bit, can't hear what is being said. Thank you.
I just can't with how giddy Ruth is to see all of the posh Edwardian kitchen gadgets, but I get it HUGE CHANGE
Bicycles still give poor people a chance to earn a living.
@Linda Tisue : The bicycles with a engine are my favorite!
That beef for Christmas dinner would cost you a lot these days
👍
What a resounding silence met that crack about the condition of the dinghy! Surprised he didn't "accidentally" pitch them overboard.
Ruth can do everything! The guys are doing a good job also!😊
I came to the comments just to read about Bill. Did not disappoint! Gotta love such a character!
Old sailor Bill looks like he’d kick your arse in his younger days! I wouldn’t put it past him now! Great show!
Sorry I just have to make a mention of Thomas Crapper, inventor of the flushing system 😆 🤣 😂
And Bill's face when Alex cracked the joke about his dinghy. Priceless 😆
Thank you for doing these, I get so much more from watching them live like this and give their comments while living it then I ever could from reading history.
Alex and his cutting callous remarks re the Fisherman's row boat. It looks like it hurt him and I would have told him to stay ashore.
If looks could kill, Alex insulting that Fisherman's dingy was not a good idea. LoL,🤣🤣🤣
I wonder who the 6 (current at time of writing) miserable so & so's who gave this a thumbs down? It's a great show/series
Especially since we aren't being forced to watch it. Like, you clicked on the link so wth?!?!
Accidentally hit the wrong one

25:07-25:30 Wow, sounds kind of like some of the jobs at the Disney parks. Maintenance, security, characters swaps -- all have their own hidden corridors to hide away in when they aren't supposed to be seen, and take care of issues secretly to keep the illusion of a magically safe, clean park alive.
Sounds about as gratifying as Edwardian servant work, if you ask me.
Ruth is a fucking delight and is the only reason I'm still watching this show
With the emphasis on scraping by a living with multiple ventures, I would have liked to see a monthly tally of expenses and income...to see if they really were keeping in the black lol
Ruth is such a beautiful woman. She has such a great personality and is enthusiastic about everything she does. They don't raise ladies like her anymore and that just makes her more unique and special
Ruth is thinking about Christmas dinner. Meanwhile, the guys just ate it!
I love this series. Both with the 2 guys and the 1 lady. But also everyone else that works on this series year by year. I’m a English Canadian Jew from SW and Central England. And where they are is one county East of where some of my family came into Canada.
How do you go back to living in the 21st after the peace and quiet of country Edwardian life?? :)
The vacuum cleaners were hysterical weren’t they. Did love the way you managed the bike Ruth.
I'm in heaven watching these..
Oh how funny!! I just saw her on the Edwardian episode of Time Crashers last night! I thought wow, that Lady is doing such a good job of being ruuuude! LOL I of course knew they were all actors playing a part so it was nothing personal. And now here I am watching her giggle her lil heart out riding a bicycle!! HOW FUN!!
It's unfortunate, however, that the music drowns out the narrator.
I love this as much as I love ocd cleaners much more entertaining than Netflix
17:11 lol the way he says Thomas *CRAPPER*
love their enthusiasm and insights on so many relevant history. And been crushing on Peter, lol.
thomas.... crapper.....
thats nominative determination at its very finest xD xD xD
I love Ruth so much!
I love history and this series is great. Mums grandmother started as a kitchen maid and rose to ladies maid before she married a policeman.
